Imagine…forgetting past teams and see the Vikings through the prism of KOC. He wins the SB with the Rams, figures he can build a championship team as a head coach, he deals with the aftermath of Zimmerman and now…imagine that a SB win is inevitable. Call me a dreamer, but looking over past failures is a waste of time, and enjoyment in the present is amazing, with realistic expectations of success in the near future. (Fan since 1971)

Can't see this team getting blown out by any team in the playoffs , might not get to the sb but they definitely will not get blown out , that said they have a real shot at a Lombardi this year .amazing , Philly and Vikings for the title , bills and ravens for the title those are the final 4 after that who knows , kc , greenbay ( somthing is missing on those teams ). Detroit ( defense is toast ). Rams , Tampa( Dark horse) but na they don't have it . Right now looks like Bill's vs Philly ( superbowl). But if the vikes get the #1 seed they might just get there . BILLS VS VIKINGS , would be absolutely crazy . What a story that would be!!!

I've been a Vikings fan since 79' excluding coach this is the best team on defense since 1987-88 on offense since 98' in 98' we were defensively not the best but we were always ahead by 14 or more within minutes so that defense didn't have to show up every game just make a stop or two we're pretty much going to score 3 or 7

I know that Judd specified that he was comparing Cousins negotiating skills to other players, he is not alone in Vikings history if you go outside that scope. Mike Lynn ripped off the team and even negotiated 10% royalties off the Metrodome suites; Brad Childress secured his hiring here by insisting that if he left, he would accept another job elsewhere and also spent much of the 2009 season whining about a contract extension even though he was signed through 2010 (the Wilfs broke down a gave him an extension after the 10-1 start, which ended up being a major mistake and probably the reason why KOC has not been extended yet). Cousins, Lynn, and Chilly were all great negotiators considering how unspectacular that they were at their jobs.

I could understand fans who liked Kirk and believed he was a good QB. I thought he was a good QB, and a decent guy. I never understood the undying devotion to Kirk from some fans. Admittedly I'm a guy who pulls for the uniform over all else, but I certainly lean into some players more than others. Kirk could never elevate his play, or the team, over a certain level and he cost too much. Many of us understood the first contract and applauded it, but it was clear after his third season it was never going to "work" with Kirk the way that many of us wanted it to. Then frustration set in when management/ownership kept going back to the well. It was like someone not willing to leave unfulfilling, but not terrible relationship because of the unknown.

The 2024 version is less fraudulent than the 2022 team which deserves credit for winning 13 games, but had very little credibility heading into the playoffs. 1998 wins in a landslide (15-1 and looking dominant from start to finish), 2017 looked very promising since they went into the playoffs on an 11-1 stretch and were playing dominant football in most of the late games. 2009 team got off to a 10-1 start, but then Childress and his insecure behavior sabotaged the last month of the season (going 2-3); they did play much better in the playoffs, but the 2009 team gets way too romanticized considering they only had the fourth best record in the NFL that year and ended on a 3-4 stretch counting the playoffs. Chilly, Favre, and Peterson were destined to destroy a great opportunity.

Why is the 2017 team even in question? The fact you compare it to '87 in ranks means a lot too. 1998 is #1 for now, but if this teams wins a bowl its THIS squad. Right now I have it. 1998, 2009, 2024......gap.....1987, couple other random teams, 2017.

The 2017 team won 11 out of their final 12 regular season games and outgained their opponents in 14 out of the 16 regular season games in addition to having a great defense. Yes, the 2009 team had more style points in their postseason games, but did the exact same thing in the playoffs as the 2017 team did (won one game and lost in the NFCCG), not to mention the fact that they lost 3 out of their final 5 regular season games after Childress decided to Childress and started his post-contract extension power trip. The 1987 team just got hot at the right time and had a comparatively bumpy regular season (above and beyond the strike games).

Our 2 losses were to teams with good veteran QB’s and great receivers. We are 29th in pass defense and this offensive blueprint is our Achilles Heel. This offense would have to score +40 to beat the 2009 and 1998 teams. This will be the same narrative in this year’s playoffs and will fall on the shoulders of Darnold.

Yeah, the defense was awesome, but they couldn't run the ball effectively (there was a reason why Herschel Walker was sought after by Lynn) and Burnsie could not quit Tommy Kramer even though Wade Wilson was clearly better at that point and Bob Schnelker was pretty deficient as an OC (resulting in only an 8-4 record with the regular roster that year).
