We played it at the end of our wedding reception. Our first real date was the Virginia Renaissance Festival where we first heard them play this. We met in 1980 at an RPG and we still play today, though with different folks. We’ve been married for 22 years, and are in our 70s. I celebrate all the seasons and fellow travelers…

My LARP guild, which my daughter headed, always sang this song (playing MoM's version on a CD) at the end of an event. Others started wandering in to sing with us, and eventually we had 30 or 40 people crammed in our guild house, all singing.. We did 6 or so events a year and soon everyone knew the words. A few years later, she married another guild member. Just after the ceremony, we were all sitting and talking and our DJ (also a guild member) put this song on.. Suddenly half the people are singing along and the other half are looking around with a WTF expression on their faces, trying to figure out where the lyrics were and why all these people had them memorized. It was hilarious, with many explanations given after the song ended.

We will never again hear this song done as beautifully as this version. The Minstrels of Mayhem performed this version and they split up years ago. Very sad. I still listen to it though.

Celtic Mayhem still exists, and retains most of the members of Minstrels of Mayhem. Here's the version of Blackbird/Health to the Company by some familiar voices that you thought were entirely gone. kzbin.info/www/bejne/q37cqK1sdrR3qJo

I remember MoM leading everyone in this as the final song of the day at the pub sing. So many variations on this old tune, but there's a kind of an extra melancholy about the way MoM performed it. Bittersweet. Joy at the opportunities in parting, sorrow at its necessity. So many great memories.

I'm a bit late, but i have heard dozens of artists do this song, but THIS one....is by far my faveorite. Damn i wish i could have been born to hear them in person.

I grew up listening and hanging around these guys. Have ave been there to toast the company many years. I fear we will never all meet there again. Is that the certain melancholy you speak of? I'm getting tears and chills writing this. I miss this so much. Edit: man I'm really feeling it now. I had the best childhood ever, running around the festival and enjoying but not fully understanding what I was getting to be part of. Such kindred memories, and such good, kind people. So many pub sings, and late night jams. I miss so much. I hope to rejoin what's left of that life one day.

MoM was one of the reasons I fell in love with Ren. Fairs over 20 years ago. I really miss them so listening to this is bittersweet.

MoM were great, but Celtic Mayhem still retains most of the member of MoM., they still play FlaRF yearly, and locally throughout the year in South Florida, I still remember the first time I heard this.. not at a faire, but at the wake of a friend who was part of the Royal Chessmen (and formerly part of Tuatha de Danaan). Jon from Tuatha performed this life with Ty and I was floored by the raw emotion of this song.

Reading through the comments it's awesome to see I wasn't alone. MOM would close out the night in the pub with this song and it brings tears to my eyes to hear we may and might never all meet here again. I remember the last night I saw them very well and I wonder how many of the people here shared the experience with me.

Kind Friend and Companions, Come join me in rhyme, Come lift up your voices, In chorus with mine, Come lift up your voices, all grief to refrain, For we may or might never, all meet here again Here's a health to the company and one to my lass, Let us drink and be merry, all out of one glass, Let us drink and be merry, all grief to refrain For we may or might never, all meet here again Here's a health to the dear lass, that I love so well, For her style and her beauty, sure none can excel, There's a smile on her countenance, as she sits on my knee, There's no man in this wide world, as happy as me, Here's a health to the company, and one to my lass Let us drink and be merry, all out of one glass, Let us drink and be merry, all grief to refrain For we may or might never, all meet here again, Our ship lies at anchor, she's ready to dock, I wish her safe landing, without any shock, If ever I should meet you, by land or by sea, I will always remember, your kindness to me, Here's a health to the company and one to my lass, Let us drink and be merry, all out of one glass, Let us drink and be merry, all grief to refrain For we may or might never, all meet here again Here's a health to the company and one to my lass, Let us drink and be merry, all out of one glass, Let us drink and be merry, all grief to refrain For we may or might never, all meet here again

I worked Ren in TN in the month of May one year with my short lived GF. Those tents, the people, the moments, truly another world. Then these minstrels at the end with this. Truly nostalgic.

I've been doing Faire for Nigh on 30 years, I was pregnant with my now 27 year old son my first year. got banished from Home, nearly killed me. But the final show of the year, as they each exited the stage, their then silent instruments left behind, on that final tour, gave me the most AWFUL feeling. Like I knew. Never saw them together again. This still leaves me in tears. I should have gone first, not them. It would have felt more right. and its a pain that goes soul deep.

Went to the 'Faire last October and got drunk on mead. Had a great time. Ever feel like drinking alot is a crap shoot? Sometimes great stuff happens, your eyes shine, meet lots of people, make a drunken ass of yourself, and sometimes you puke and pass out.
