LOL in the first quarter of Game 1 of the Finals they actually had a contest to hit a shot from that same spot on the baseline, and of course they chose someone who could shoot so he won like $1000 for it. Insane how close Sheed came to blocking that shot. I remember at the start of the game Sean hit two threes and all I could think is with Elliott hot the Spurs are going to blow Portland out. But after those two threes it was all downhill until that run in the third.

Dude, I lived it. We were walking out the court almost to the outside of the Alamodome to beat traffic, when the crowd exploded. We ran back in, and saw on the Jumbo Tron, Elliott hit the 3. I still remember it as a kid. After that I was always trying to hit a 3 like that lol, on the tippy toes.

@arsonhakobyan3 жыл бұрын
@@xbotnpc420 Yeah. They also never really had that good of a chance in that series, losing 4-1, though you can say Game 4 was winnable, but they didn't seem like they could win in LA that yr. regardless. Also, the Celtics were better than the Spurs that yr. in terms of both defense & match-ups head-to-head. The Spurs were a David West healthy back away from losing in 7 games to the Hornets in 08. They needed the cheap-shot-Bob to win it in 07, which to me was the weakest Spurs title of their 5, in a somewhat weak yr., w/ Kobe's Lakers being in their non-contention period after Shaq but before Gasol, after the 67win Mavs were bounced in the 1st round, though the 61win Suns team did have weapons on offense for sure, and that was the only good team the Spurs faced in the playoffs that yr., that probably should've beat em. I sincerely did not think the Duncan/Pop Spurs were serious threats again to take the title till 11, when they got shockingly bounced in the 1st round by the Grizzlies. The Spurs looked strong to me in 06, won a franchise-record 63 games, thought they'd repeat, but got so many bad breaks in the Mavs series. And then they were on a steady decline to me till 11. After 06, it seemed like they were just hanging on. They won the title in 07, but they weren't as good in 07 as they were in 06. And then a few athletes made them better again in 11 like Gary Neal & Richard Jefferson, and had they not traded away the latter for the non-athletic tough guy Stephen Jackson in 12, I think they would've hung on to beat the Thunder in 12, and would've beaten the top-heavy but thin Heat.

That's the part I feel like gets missed when talking about the Memorial Day Miracle. Yes, the Spurs were the better team, especially looking at it in hindsight of the sweep and the eventual dynasty that blossomed, but at the time, it was far from a given. I mean...SA was *known* for figuring out ways to lose in the postseason, be it the Strickland debacle in '91, the GSW upset, the HOU upset, etc. If SA loses game 2 and goes to the Rose Garden tied 1-1, who knows how that Blazers' momentum could have coalesced (remember, they'd just eliminated Utah, who was the odds-on favorite coming into the season to finally get over the hump and win a title with MJ retiring from Chicago). The MDM was the first time the city of San Antonio collectively actually believed the team would get it done and win it all. You win a game like that, it's just magical. That feeling is infectious.

Still chokes me up 23 years later as a lifelong spurs fan to see that shot somehow go in, all those great 90s teams never making it happen was so tough then 1 miracle trey righted the ship into a dynasty, I'll never forget that shot

Please do Sidney Crosby's OT sudden death goal against USA in the gold medal match to win Canada the gold medal. Huge moment for hockey and sports definitely deserves a rewind.

Just like when some poor linebacker sent Bledsoe to the bench and allowed Brady to rise and kill every teams joy for the rest of existence, Portland birthed the bane of Suns fans existence by creating this dynasty, I personally despise the Spurs being a salty Knicks fan.

99 was my first year as a Knicks fan(I was 7 and MJ was retired) I remember that Spurs team I still hate all of them except Pop

I fully believe Tim Duncan could witness the death of a loved one on a basketball court, get interviewed by a reporter, and in the most monotone voice say: “It’s uh fine, you know, we put our best into it and we’ll be back next time.”

Remember when he slapped the floor in G7 of the '13 finals? That was genuinely shocking to see. Not even a deal with just about any other player, but seeing Duncan do that was just... Damn.

@@watershipdowneyjr Yeah, rare reaction. Understandable too, since he missed a shot that he usually makes.

The twin towers (Duncan and Robinson) were the deadliest big man combo ever and one of the scariest combos period! Then you have Pop as a coach. No wonder the were the only team that went neck-and-neck with Kobe, Shaq, and Phil Lakers.
