WOW. I've seen this four times live, watched the 25th anniversary DVD, the 2004 film, and listened to cast recordings REPEATEDLY since I was a little girl (I'm not even mentioning the non-ALW versions). I WISH I could have seen these two live. They really nail it!

@mikey p Right, and a better cast would've brought in better crowds. It's like football, you can't just keep doing a series of what's immediately avaliable. You need to source better talent. And I've seen it on Broadway, I live in NYC.

The Broadway closing cast was excepcional. Emilie Kouatchou as Christine was a breath of fresh air. Smells like racism!

Josh and Amy: the best Phantom and Christine ever!!! Actually love the pared back, simplified production! It's a nice contrast. Especially love how the stairs materialize as they descend and the flow of her dressing gown. Beautiful!

I absolutely hate how this production does not have him holding her hand and leading her down the stairs! This makes absolutely no sense from an acting perspective.

Did the Phantom say something different rather than the customary "sing! ×3"? Felt like in-between he said "breathe" and "again". If it was, I think I like the addition since he's her teacher. And the walk they did was lovely - they had time to be in each other's presence and look at each other.

They changed it for the restaged tour. I think they were going for a “he’s actually teaching her how to sing” moment.

He did say exactly that! For the restaged tour he instructs her during the sequence (“breath” “again” as opposed to just encouraging her to sing :)

Many things passed through my mind: 1. I hate this setting, the bridge, her dress room and phantom's lair... just no 2. Amy Manford is simply the voice of Christine, it's beautiful 3. Wtf Josh Piterman is too handsome to be the phantom, I mean

This is about the worst bastardisation of PotO I've ever had the misfortune of seeing. A restaged tour done by Mackintosh to save money, when the actual West End production managed to tour without any issues for years. I can't imagine this is much cheaper, given the massive rotating cylinder they insist on having everywhere. Just not a good production

I haven't seen the Italian version yet, because a live 7 hours by train from Trieste, perhaps I can go to Milan next October. I would really like to see Ramin live and Amelia Milo is a great Christine, from what I heard. But the Italian restaging I think it's even worse.

Amy is an absolutely terrific Christine - I saw her perform it in London (as the alternate) a couple of times. Unfortunately she was out the night I saw it Sydney. This production however is an abomination. Completely lacks the mystique, atmosphere and beauty of the original. The set is clunky and awkward. Cam Mac should be ashamed for ruining the legacy of the original creative team. There have GOT to be better ways of mounting an economical touring production that keeps the aesthetic essence of the show that has captivated the world for nearly 4 decades.

I agree that the sets were disappointing but for me the performances were enough to make up for it, especially Daniel Koek who was a phenomenal understudy Phantom!!!

I hate that the London mask, makeup and tuxedo are used in this instead of the other style. And that the Phantom is back to wearing his fedora in this staging. They might as well have had the Phantom wear the original wig, too
