Well......Both “Paper” & “Scissors” got represented a lot in this Mario Subseries, (*Heck, one of the Bosses in this Very game is a literal sentient Pair of Scissors*) so they’ve gotta get a “Rock” representation in there somehow. Albeit this mostly applies to the bosses, some battles, and the final area. Most of the soundtrack is very cinematic.

@chioberyl my guess is that they took samples of the bassist drumming their fingers on the back of the bass and applied pitch changes and filters to it to make it sound funkier. It's so amazing that Nintendo can sample a random sound and turn it into an instrument with enough editing. They've given us so many great soundtracks using this method

It's actually really fun to me. The mechanic is easy to avoid. But I like how you have to run behind to deal damage. Displays the new way of fighting bosses well.
