It’s a shame that Tokyo Drift was the least profitable of the Fast & Furious franchise. That’s been a fan favorite ever since it came out. And as you said once that movie has JDM cars with wide body kits & big turbos, awesome race scenes, and hot Asian women. What’s not to love?

@Kev27RS7 ай бұрын
@@sonicallstarify Yeah, the way that the producers handled Tokyo Drift regarding its connection to the rest of the movies, is bullshit! If it wasn’t for the popularity of the character "Han", the UNIVERSAL producers wouldn’t have brought him back for the fourth movie and the storyline / timeline of the franchise wouldn’t be such a mess nowadays… It messed everything up! The producers decided to kill the coolest character of the movie while creating the movie Tokyo Drift. That movie takes place after Fast & Furious 6 NOW… It wasn’t supposed to be that way initially though. The producers took around 8 years to decide where to place and connect Tokyo Drift in the franchise’s timeline… All because they decided to bring the character "Han" back for the fourth movie. I guess the first big mistake was to kill the character Han in the Tokyo Drift movie. Then bringing him back in the fourth movie was the pivotal moment that messed everything up… It was the last nail on the coffin when Furious 7 came out and the producers started to "reinvent" everything related to Tokyo Drift… Han‘s comeback in Fast And Furious 9 doesn’t make any sense at all… It was all "fan service"! As much as I enjoy Tokyo Drift for what it represents, that movie will always leave a sour taste in my mouth… It’s unfortunate!

The GT-C was the VS-KF of the early 2000s. There was a grey S15 Spec-R with a Vertex Ridge kit and GT-C that was my teenage dream car for years. Then everyone became obsessed with the Stance movement and 3-piece wheels and the GT-C, GT-V and similar Volk Racing wheelsnof the time, fell to the back of the car scene. the GT-C was even featured on the Need for Speed Underground 2 cover. It was truly the wheel of the early 2000s.

I have a weird "history" with Han's Orange car.. I really liked it, but did not recognized what model was it. Spent some time searching what was it. Then I discovered it was an RX7 and ... I still prefer the original lines of the model. It's stupid on my part, but in my head (and knowing/respecting how iconic the movie model is) it felt as a downgrade on the original design. (Note: I don't dislike the mocvie's car, I'm talking in direct comparison on it and an original RX7).

I think the far greater interest in Japanese cars comes from the fact these were the first well-known movies that really put "Tuners" in the spotlight, and a spotlight that's hard to put it out, and most importantly these cars were heavily customized and that helped to build the personality of these cars and the character who drives them. Muscle cars and exotic cars in the other hand are prominently featured in just about every movie Hollywood makes, so they just become things people will roll their eyes and say "yet another movie Charger", "yet another movie Lamborghini", that's not to say that these cars aren't incredible in their own, but they aren't that special in the context of media presence. I'd love to know where is Han's 1997 RX-7 these days, the VeilSide demo car that is. I think a few years back one of the Fortune RX-7s went up for sale, but that was the backup to the hero car built from a silver 1992 RX-7, would be nice to know where the car is now as well. Shame about Dom's RX-7 though, that's an iconic car and to think the owner is just letting it sit and pick up dust like that is heartbreaking.

I think one of the main reasons the Japanese cars are more sought after now is they captured an era that was short lived. When I say short lived I’m referring to the two time frames. Pre 1997 emissions and then the early 2000s before companies like Mitsubishi and Nissan began to struggle financially. Toyota sourcing BMW for example with the “new Supra” only to scrap it. I also would like to add the that the stylizing of the Japanese cars also maybe a driving force in the demand over domestics.
