The Missing Modi Wave as Livelihood Issues Dominate | MK Venu | Yogendra Yadav

National convenor of the Bharat Jodo Abhiyan Yogendra Yadav, who is on a 1,500-km tour of Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Haryana and Bihar, says there is a palpable absence of any Modi wave in the Hindi belt, where the BJP had won the maximum seats in 2019. He says livelihood issues dominate conversations in a big way, as also indicated by the recent CSDS survey.
Many who voted Modi in 2014 and 2019 say they won't vote BJP this time but seem overwhelmed by the narrative of "Ayega to Modi hi". Yadav says it seems apparent that the BJP will reduce its seats tally in the Hindi belt as compared to 2019. The same performance is unlikely to be repeated. Also, he says, the current election is less presidential than the previous two Lok Sabha polls.

If I may add here about Modiji’s popularity heights; it appears that the general public is feeling slightly cheated emotionally. Till now people accepted blindly every word that Modiji said/did. But not any more. There are questions being asked about the prime minister’s admin especially about women safety and the attitude of PM himself. People’s Faith in Modiji’s tall talks is fading. Frustration is setting in bcoz bjp seems to arm-twist into every one’s life. They may not want some other PM as Modi is way too strong as a leader. During the end of congress government i got my first job. I was able to manage my life with a salary of 25000. At the time petrol somewhere around 70 and gas price is 450 now its 102 for petrol and 900 for gas. Price rise is a fact. But, there is no shortage of essential commodities. Youth are unable to get jobs according to their qualification. The reality is that there's shortage of manpower in agriculture. Everybody wants a cushy job. But, it is not available to all. At the same time, we need pucca roads, water supply, standard houses and hospitals. Government should focus on rural infrastructure, housing, availability of water and affordable health care for all. Government can generate employment in these areas. The government machinery is used to perpetuation of power on wrong and dangerous premises. That will not work indefinitely.
