Combined with the upcoming battle scene, the scene between G'kar and the doctor is near perfect. It sets up a race - and the hope - to avert the upcoming disaster, but in the end, it fails.

If only G’Sten had listened and postponed the attack. He could have ambushed Reefa’s fleet and maybe even defeated it. More importantly, such a fiasco would have discredited Reefa and possibly undermined the entire Centauri war effort.

It may not have been that simple, moving troops and ships takes time and resources. The Narn may have hoped to attack first and force the Centauri to pull back. It’s also worth considering that without the Shadows the Centauri may not have had the forces to succeed.
@DLordSadow3 жыл бұрын
@@Grz349 From the dialogue in this episode, it would appear that most, if not all of the ships G’Sten was massing for his ill fated assault on Gorash IV, were at Narn. By simply delaying the launch, G’Sten would have found himself ambushing the Centauri force basically by default. As neither force would likely have been properly prepared for a major battle, the result likely would have been a big, but brief skirmish. The Centauri would have engaged the Narn fleet, but as they would have likely lacked an advantage of numbers or firepower, would have retreated as soon as their jump engines would allow it.
@ethenallen1388 Жыл бұрын
The G'Narn had lost a lot of space and the Centauri could taste victory by this point. Ever if G'Sten's forces had been able to stop Reefa's attack, I doubt it would have done more than delay the end. The fall of the G'Narn was an important part of the events that followed. Postponing it would have done more harm than good.

Babylon 5 doesn't get the recognition that it deserves. It's rather sad to see the low amount of views that these videos get.

#1 most B5 fans bought the disk set. This show is like 20 years old. #2 if MJ suddenly does get a lot of traffic, his channel might get strikes if these clips aren’t ok by KZbin copyright enforcement

It’s a shame they never really use this Great Machine to it’s full extent, or in a fight or anything.
@Lightingwarrior2 жыл бұрын
Agreed it could have been real handy when Clark's forces appeared or when the Shadow ships appeared, but to be fair the creators of B5 had a limited budget and probably couldn't afford to bring it in as much as they could have
@Norvo82 Жыл бұрын
Thing is: what we've seen of the Great Machine's defenses is that they're mostly to protect the machine complex itself. It can reach ships in orbit, but it's still mostly a defensive system. It is powerful enough to blow up the entire planet, but that's not exactly useful in a fight you hope to survive. Also, without the Great Machine directing its energies towards the temporal rift in Sector 14, Sheridan and Sinclair could never have take Babylon 4 into the past to help defeat the Shadows 1000 years earlier.
@BLZ231 Жыл бұрын
It probably would have played a role in season 4, as the conflict between the Vorlons and Shadows was originally supposed to be the entire focus of season 4. But after finding out he might not get a season 5 he ended up cramming as much stuff as he could into season 4, and the conflict that should have been the whole focus of the season was squished down into the first six episodes. He did reasonably well with what he was given, but it’s a shame we never got to see that arc properly fleshed out.

Most advanced alien civilization/ technology, but they aren't OSHA compliant with decent handrails.
@WUZLE4 жыл бұрын
They may have been natural fliers. The Krell only had knee high handrails because they were short and squat and the Great Machine was very clearly based on the Krell machine from Forbidden Planet.
@slewone4905 Жыл бұрын
all moon size or above constructs are required not to have handrails. They found out in constructing the death star. The metal for hand rail would be better used for covering the outer part of the space station. unfortunately they couldn't spare a little bit to cover the exhaust port.

From what I understand, the zoomed-out scenes in the Great Machine were explicitly a nod to similar scenes in that movie.
