This reaction, especially at the end and the commentary, lack there of, was gold. The concerned doggos at the end were adorable and just highlight how distressing this was. I do appreciate the approach of the commentary, and instead of just bashing the movie or character, is just this pure attempt at processing it. Despite how many feel about it, you got to admit, it hits differently when something leaves you with the need to gather your thoughts. I think we need more of that. 😅

In King's novella, they drive out into the mist in search of a safe haven that may or may not exist. The director changed it, and Stephen King himself, a vocal fan of Darabont's revised ending, described it as "the most shocking ending ever," and said, "there should be a law passed stating that anybody who reveals the last 5 minutes of this film should be hung from their neck until dead."
@J_EOMReacts2 жыл бұрын

yeah no. this is hands down, in my top 3 worst endings. i deadass memory holed it, cause it pissed me off so freakin much when i seen it in 2007. as if ppl that survived multiple onslaughts, would be the ones that would kill their own child. those ppl that would do that, are the ones dying in the middle. and they did that cause they seen a being that is not even interessted in their car, whilst the monsters they fend off, were out for blood, like a scourge sent by god? if anything, the fact that the behemoth didn't even care, should've given them hope, that not all mist beasts are onetrack minded killers. only other illogical thing i'm going to mention. there's a 1000 tiny baby bugs that hatch out of one human, if not even more. the mist hasn't been there for months, so we have to consider that those spiderbugs, at best live 10 days, and rely on something in the mist. aside from that, their agression most likely comes from the agony of shedding themselves atleeast 4 times on one day, at bare minimum, a super high running metabolism, and the brain being programed to find as much food and nesting ground as fast as possible, no matter the price, cause their flame burns bright, but not long. this the price you pay for super fast growing. the earth would be in no time, so full of spiderbugs, that no convoy with a rolling open reproduction buffet, wouldn't be firing constantly, to protect the buffet that isn't even hidden. a tarp would've made a world of diffrence. but for some reason, him looking at the back of the truck, and have the short hair lady stare at him as the truck drives away, was just too much to ask, so that it atleast would've made a lick of sense, as to why the tank or the G.Is weren't heard by them, cause they would be firing constantly in this set up. and guns are loud man... we seen the spiderbugs target weapons, and not give a F, so why would this be any diffrent here? somebody tell SK how numbers work, cause i feel like he doesn't know math all to well. also, maybe if he writes insects, he could look into their general behaviour, as we have multiple insects that procreate in this manner. and you guessed it, once they want to put their eggs into you they go for, get that shit in, or die trying, with zero chill. but, a good reminder for my own authoring, stay concise with the examples from which you extract your ideas. and if you want to be fantastical too much, then be very careful how you create more drama, with the fantastical. cause again, that ending is worse than when my school went to see how our water treatment system works, because i've seen vats of shit there, and this was still less shit than this.

@maruskaehrensdorfer Жыл бұрын
Yup. The actual monsters are a metaphor. The real monsters are humans. I prefer the short story over the movie, but I also enjoyed watching the movie in the cinema. Stephen King was one of my fav authors during my teens and my twenties. After that, I sort of outgrew him. But I will always have incredibly fond memories of the nightmares that his books gave me and he's still basically the best horror writer in the world. My personal faves are Salem's Lot, The Stand, Cujo, Misery and The Shining (prefer the books over the adaptations, but also enjoyed the mini-series of Salem's Lot and The Stand and the movies of the others).

He truly believed all hope was lost, and rather than see his son and everyone else be subjected to a horrific and excruciating death he chose to sacrifice himself in order to afford them a quick and painless end. He knew he only had 4 bullets and chose to literally be ripped apart by the monsters rather than allow them to suffer. What a tragic outcome to befall a true hero

And no, it wasn't (quite) Clint Eastwood he was working on...it's Roland from the Dark Tower (way before the disappointing DT movie was made. Idris Elba was badass, but...). Specifically Roland, in that poster, is passing through The Thinny - a Lovecraft nightmare place between dimensions...which is where the mist comes from.

I hope these "as we go" helps 1. In context it is similar to what King did with The Stand except in this case it's monsters and not a virus. 2. Jeffery DeMunn is known as a favorite of director Frank Darabont, who has cast him in all four of his films: "The Shawshank Redemption" (1994), "The Green Mile" (1999), and "The Mist" (2007). All King adaptations. He was also in what King himself says is the best adaptation of his work. "Storm of the Century". 3. William Sadler also was in Shawshank and The Green Mile. 4. Frances Sternhagen was in "Misery" by King. 5. Marcia Gay Harden kills it. 6.The big guy that goes out with the rope around his waste was going to be King doing that role himself. 7. This is not how the book ends. Darabont wanted this ending. King later said that as horrific that it is he likes better than his.. 8. Stephen King. You're welcome.

The mother whose children are at home (Melissa Mcbride) was not supposed to survive the end of the film... But the actors and the directors thought she had acted so well that they decided to make her reappear at the end with his kids.

That wasn’t Clint Eastwood he drew. That was an Easter egg for Stephen Kings ‘The Gunslinger’. The gunslinger looks a bit like Eastwood in his Spaghetti Western phase. The gunslinger is the hero of his Dark Tower series which directly or indirectly touches on all his stories. The gunslinger’s quest is stop shit like the Mist from happening.

lol not clint eastwood in drawing, its 'the gunslinger' by stephen king (this is a stephen king story too) The gunslinger is part of the Dark Tower series, they made one into a movie with idris elba and mathew Mcconaghy 'the dark tower' - sort of a fantasy horror - you may want to check it out :)
