Hey guys! Right now we're working on new show reactions for February. But in the meantime, here's a movie reaction we did for our Patreon back in November to hold you guys over! We made this video before Andre Braugher passed, so we didn't mention it in the video. But needless to say we were deeply saddened and shocked to hear he passed. RIP Andre Braugher.

I will *never* understand why this film is so underappreciated and underrated. It was judged as mediocre by both fans and critics. Such a shame! It's gained more favor in subsequent years and rightly so. This is a fantastic film and yes, most definitely has one of the most brutal and heartbreaking endings ever. Another great reaction, you two!

There may be other market reasons I don't know about from the time period, but there are a few reasons why I think "The Mist" didn't hit as hard at first (though it is getting more appreciation now): 1) PEOPLE DON'T UNDERSTAND IT'S SUPPOSED TO BE A B-MOVIE. The point of the movie (which @Hey_Jamie obvs didn't understand) is that it's meant to be like an old creature-feature B-movie. Frank Darabont even intended for it to be in black and white like those old movies but the studio said no to that (although he did eventually put out a version in B&W and, as intended, it works better that way). So, unfortunately, people who didn't understand the homage probably felt a little meh about the dialogue (which was purposely cheesy at times), the stupid decisions of some of the characters (which was on purpose), etc. Also, the CG looks way better in B&W than in color (where it looks washed out and flat), so that didn't help the theatrical cut. 2) IT LOOKED DERIVATIVE. I think at least some people confused this movie with The Fog, which came out a year or two before and was horrible (I think it has ~4% on Rotten Tomatoes, 3.7/10 on IMDB, etc), so that didn't help. Personally, I remember seeing the commercials for The Mist and not feeling interested enough to go see it bc, from the marketing, it looked very mid (and I assumed it was a low-budget remake of The Fog). This is anecdotal "evidence," but my friends and I were all super horror movie fans and not one of us was interested enough to go see it in theaters. To echo point 1 though, it's meant to have a lot of tropes as its base with the creative (and brutal) stuff sprinkled on top to make it something new. The marketing didn't sell that or do anything to set it apart from The Fog. 3) NO NAMES. Thomas Jane was not exactly a top-tier name, even at the time. Other than for people who knew (and were excited) that there would be a lot of Walking Dead actors in it bc of Frank Darabont (and many of those people, at the time, would've been film and tv nerds, not general audience), there weren't really any actors to put butts in seats. That's true for a lot of horror films but, when the marketing fails to sell the vibe of the movie, you need a name to get people into theaters anyway. 4) THE BIGGEST REASON THE MOVIE FAILED IN THEATERS: THE ENDING. For me (and a lot of us who are fans of this movie), the brutality of the ending is what sets this film apart and makes it memorable. If it had the happy ending the studio wanted (or even the ambiguous ending Stephen King originally wrote), I don't think I would have remembered The Mist two hours after I finished watching it. Because of that ending, this movie is one I've always remembered, fully respect, and will recommend to anyone who asks. That ending put it in the pantheon of great horror films (or, at least, really good horror films). HOWEVER, a lot of the general audience doesn't like brutal endings (especially ones involving kids). The critics even said at the time that the ending would divide audiences and, tbh, I think they were right. I bet a lot of people came out of the theater hating the ending and didn't recommend it to their friends after. In fact, if you look up reports of audience reactions to the end of the movie in theaters, you'll see a lot of people hated the end and, as a result, hated the movie. From there, word of mouth (or, maybe worse yet, lack of word of mouth) killed its box office. Fortunately, people went back and discovered the movie later, on cable and, later still, on streaming services and gave it a chance. It just took a while to find the audience who would appreciate it for what it's supposed to be.

Hi Christian & Madison!😊 This is rather a unique film from writer Stephen King and director Frank Darabont (The Walking Dead). They also teamed up for "The Green Mile" (1999) and "The Shawshank Redemption" (1994). Two very popular well made films!🏆🏆 King's book does end differently. He has said he likes Darabont's ending better here. Great job reacting to tis unique horror film, Kids!!!!🎬👏👏👏👏

Fun fact, the painting he is on at the beginning is a depiction of Roland Deschain of Gilead, main character of The Dark Tower saga. The Tower itself is on the painting, with the Rose and one of the Door that are important elements of the books. The real fun fact is that the Dark Tower books connects every King's story together in a concrete manner, so the movie character probably had some "visions" of what is happening in the other part of King'sverse.

I hope these "as we go" helps 1. In context it is similar to what King did with "The Stand", except in this case it's monsters and not a virus. 2. Jeffery DeMunn is known as a favorite of director Frank Darabont, who has cast him in all four of his films: "The Shawshank Redemption" (1994), "The Green Mile" (1999), and "The Mist" (2007). All King adaptations. He was also in what King himself says "Storm of the Century" was such a good screenplay that he adapted into a book. 3. William Sadler also was in "Shawshank" and "The Green Mile". 4. Frances Sternhagen was in "Misery" by King. 5. Marcia Gay Harden kills it. 6.King wanted to play the big guy that goes out with the rope around his waist "brass balls" but Darabont shot him down. 7. This is not how the book ends. Darabont wanted this ending. King later said that as horrific that it is he likes it better. What makes this ending more devastating is he has to live with it the rest of his life 🥵 8. The picture of the cowboy is an Easter egg from King's "Dark Tower series 9. The cool thing about this story is, since the creatures are from a different dimension, they could be anything. 10. Stephen King. You're welcome

44:47 they saved all those people likely because they came from the opposite direction, and the protagonist went away from where the army entered the town from. If you didn't notice the Army was heading the same direction they were, so the farther they drove the farther from the military they got.

I don't want to make anyone angry but 😅 That church lady is the first thing I think of when someone says they're christian, just like when I hear someone say they support trump and I think that they're waiting for JFK Jr to resurrect. Of course, I'm sure hearing Democrat for those people make them think of bright green hair being triggered and people like Lenin and Mao. It's a lot of media that has painted us all as the worst in our particular groups & it's sad. Not sure why I felt the need to type that out but it's frustrating and we see it every day, and a lot of ud blindly believe it & it's driving us further apart. Live and let live ✌️

Some notes: 1- the way the army came from is the same way the group had escaped because the army came from behind them and the general store located behind. 2- the irony is the mist get really cleared just seconds after the death of the boy (david's son), dark brutal thing to think about. 3-according to the old book of Christianity the creature they saw before the shooting, was not the monster, it was a creature that represent the redemption and good fate, but because the group was not believers they rush towards killing them selves.

This is probably a better response than what would actually happen. Most people, especially the younger people who have lived in a world of technology and everybody is special culture would be totally useless in this scenario.

I saw this in the theater. I left shaking. I had a toddler at that time and I just could not imagine. I understand why. But that's just horrifying. That and the religious fanatics. Scariest part of the movie!
