the way that all of the adults expected a 17 year old to lead an entire rebellion is CRAZY.

The thing is they didn't. They wanted to use her as a tool to spark the rebellion but she has no control she's just a figure head, a puppet under their control. The only reason they give her any freedom is to keep her under their control. That's kind of the whole point of Mockingjay. A lot of people didn't like that Katniss isn't the one to actually end the war. They complained that she just ends up dying on the ground after the parachute bombs while the war is finished elsewhere, but thats the whole point. Katniss was never meant to end the war, actually she was really just a means to an end to begin the war, to give Coin enough support from Panem to destroy the capital. The only reason Coin lets Katnias go out into the field was that it allowed her to film more propos and if Katniss died they had a martyr they could use to rally Panem against Snow. The only moments in the books where Katniss has any agency are when she volunteers in Prims place and when she kills Coin. Killing Coin ended the games once and for all and liberated Katniss.

Historically a lot of revolutionaries were teens and early 20s. And also right now a disturbing number of soldiers are teens. But they didn't want Katniss to lead, a lot of the average people saw her as a folk hero revolutionary. But the adults in the revolution mainly seemingly wanted her to be a figurehead with no ability to make leadership choices.

As horrific as Prim's death and Peeta's brainwashing were, I actually kinda love how real Suzanne Collins was for that because it so clearly demonstrates the effects of war. From the beginning, Katniss' goal was always ultimately to save Prim, whereas Peeta's was for the Capitol not to change him. In the end, they both LOST what they had been fighting so hard for, which, while heartbreaking, is also so realistic. Also anyone who defends Gale, girl, he literally designed bombs with two detonations specifically to allow innocent medics and civilians to run in and get blown to bits too. He did not give a rat's ass about committing war crimes until it affected someone he knew. Also, even then, in the book all he is doing is feeling sorry for himself that Prim's death blew any chance he had with Katniss. Like homeboy was feeling sorry for HIMSELF while the girl he claimed he loved was sitting there having just lost her sister. Trash.

@alti2b
@alti2b 8 ай бұрын
@@countlitmogaphil392 there’s a MASSIVE difference between acknowledging that civilians and innocents will die in war and actively gunning for them. Gale designed those bombs with the specific target being innocents and medics, which, by the way, is a war crime. Also in District 2 in the books he actively wanted to just bury all the people in the Nut alive without allowing anyone the chance to leave because he was just fuelled by hatred. Ultimately they left one exit open to allow them to surrender, but he just straightup wanted to murder everyone there, including civilians and rebel spies. Yes, innocents die in war, but decision-makers should always do their utmost to keep this to a minimum. He wanted to maximize it. So yes, I will judge, and I will judge harshly, because that is absolutely vile and he is a literal war criminal.

I feel like people who play villains well are always actually so cool in real life because they understand the complexity and dark tones to real life. They understand the bad and why it's bad. I feel like Effie’s development is never talked about enough. Like, she turned against the capital (the only home and life she’s ever known) to support Katniss, Peeta, and Haymitch because of how deeply she grew to care about them. You could even see in Catching Fire once she started realizing how truly awful the games were, when she had to pull their names again for the Quarter Quell. And her last scene where she’s crying seeing Katniss go back to District 12 always gets me

I hope you can take heart. In the history of the US? This is so rare, to have such an organized, large-scale condemnation against a genocide in a totally different country. The last time it happened was during the Vietnam War, and that's because we were there. Otherwise, most people didn't care. Out of sight, out of a mind - just a headline in a newspaper with your morning coffee. I don't think it's a coincidence that the same people that grew up with these books and movies saw the videos coming out of Palestine and immediately cried out. They've boosted it, rallied their friends, protested, and written their elected officials because they know exactly what this is. They've already seen it. So yes, there are too many who aren't batting an eye. The better news is there's so many crying and wanting to stop it.

Imagine snows face when he heard Katniss singing the hanging tree. I bet he had flashbacks 😂 like “damn she keeps coming back” I like how Haymitch didn’t necessarily say yes to the new games. He just says “I’m with the mockingjay.” He knew Katniss was up to something and Katniss looked at him with that “you know what’s about to go down” look. A lot of ppl don’t understand why she agreed to the hunger games but if you watch the scene again, Snow reminds her of their agreement to never lie. And if you watch the new movie, we see that Snow doesn’t like liars because he believes a person who lies is a person who is afraid. Something along those lines. Katniss needed Coin to believe that this was still about Prim to throw her off her game.

Somebody said that the games were designed to test each district’s ability to rebel against the capital. The ones that had a higher rate of survival, like districts one and two were treated better so that they didn’t have incentive to rebel. Also that a list of the most effective tricks and traps that were used in the games like the mutts or the guns or fire, were implemented in the capitals defense systems.

Collins gets the psychological effects of war so well it hurts. I didnt know this until a couple years back when my daughter brought a picture book home called Year of the Jungle. It's by SC! It's autobiographical of her 6th year when her dad was drafted to the war. Its heartbreaking to see how that one year for her, and im sure for plenty of her friends stuck with her so completely. She may not have been put in a death pit but she knows how it feels to suffer for the choices of adults

My absolute favorite quote from the books is “There are still moments where I wake up screaming from nightmares of lost children and mutts and he still clutches a chair in the dining room but his arms are there and eventually his lips and after when he asks you love me real or not real I answer real” it shows that even though PTSD doesn’t just go away you can heal from it and live a normal life

i LOVED the scene in the woods with them climbing the trees and the peacekeepers shooting at them, specifically after watching the ballad of songbirds and snakes. spoilers ahead. i love how it parallels. snow hunting lucy gray in the woods and shooting up at the mockingjays at random, and then the peacekeepers doing the same to the rebels. each repeating something that pisses off snow (for tbosas, it's lucy gray's singing, and for the mockingjay movies it's "if we burn you burn with us.)

Haha. * I love how even though he became a psychopath and a far cry from who he was when he was much younger, Coriolanus Snow was willing to not only accept defeat once it was imminent, but then also straight-up tell or imply to Katniss: "If you don't want more of the same, don't support Coin". She didn't and when she killed Coin instead, he loved every second of it. As twisted as he became and as twisted as it is, he got to go out knowing Panem was not in the hands of someone who'd be just be bad as he was.
