You just made a decision for me. I am building a house in the Philippines basically a main room hexagonal shaped and series of smaller hexagonal bedrooms I am now going to break them all up with dogtrots.

I'm thinking dogtrot skillion on my hilltop location facing southwest. I'm sitting on a ridge basically running north/south that makes a 90 running east west with excellent tree cover for shading most direct west to northwest sun. Overlooking the Guadalupe River Valley, Texas Hill Country...Possibly flat roofs on either end housing bedrooms with the higher skillion in the middle over the dogtrot and great room kitchen/dining/living.

usually everyone lived in the one small side and the other side was a kitchen in the south. The kitchen was separate because they didnt want to heat up the living space.

Eric, What would be the pros/cons to using two breezeways in a similar size floor plan with a second level above? For example, separating a garage on one end, an in-law suite on the other, and access to living quarters in the center. I've been playing with your 20'X80' width and length in a 2 story design; using the central living quarters as a meeting place for guests in the bottom floor; then using a similar floor plan to the one you posted on Houzz for the second floor. www.houzz.com/photos/10150245/Portfolio-modern-floor-plan-portland-maine
