GOOD-NESS!!!! Man, I am finding it harder and harder to defend Gibson against those that call "GREEDY". I didnt pay $2000 for my 2020 60s Standard - and it was just a few months ago that Classics were selling for $1700. This appears to be just a flat money-grab. Neck Binding on a Studio - who cares (especially when you cant see it). Mother of Pearl headstock logo on a Studio - who cares (not worth $500). Modern heel cut on a Studio - who cares. Ebony fret board on a Studio - who cares (not worth $500) - then to add insult to injury, ship them in a gig bag - Really??? On a personal level, I dont really have any complaints. I have 2 Studios so I dont care if Gibson runs the retail price on these up to $5k, mine just become worth more. But as a HUGE Gibson fan, this is incredibly disappointing that Gibson continues to move toward pricing out buyers by adding things that overall dont matter to the playing experience. Studios have always been the working musicians Les Paul - the workhorse. Now we get things that dont matter at a price point that is either unaffordable or that doesnt make financial sense to pay. Thanks for the vid Trogly - love your channel.

Working musicians aren't buying Gibson's anymore. They are pricing themselves out of the market as they have a revolving door of CEO's trying to figure out what's going wrong. Robot tuners, poor quality, designs nobody wants and pricing that is out of touch are just a few missteps.

I agree. The industry has managed to convince consumers that it's a benefit and something they should want, while in reality it costs them a lot less to manufacture. People claim they don't like stickiness of gloss but satin can also get sticky in humidity and over time starts to buff from handling it. You end up with finish blotches all over the body surface and back of the neck, not to mention a minor ding can easily chip off wood. Of course, some troll will respond now and claim their satin guitar is the best thing ever and "breathes" and still looks pristine but they probably spend more time looking at it on a guitar stand in their bedroom than gigging with it. Then again, there are a lot of posers out there who like fake relics.

I'm a devout Gibson man and have spent thousands upon thousands on their guitars and wide beveled custom made pickguards and truss rod covers. Other than on my woman and kids, I've spent more money on Gibsons than anything else I can think of. Yes, I dress my ladies up, however, I wish Gibson would put volutes on their guitars...would be similar to elegant French garters on a luxurious pair of French pantyhose. They make the neck look more attractive and makes it more playable as well as reinforces it, while the extra wood makes the guitar more resonant - and it doesn't get in the way of the player's hands...not to mention the millions of dollars it would save Gibson players in repair money, anxiety, frustration and downright agony. Were it not for the weak neck joint, we wouldn't have to baby them out of fear of headstock breaks. If Gibson were to install them on their guitars TODAY, believe me, they'd put everybody else out of business - even with their overpricing, greed and pathetic QC problems.🙂 Not putting down the guitar of my life - just stating something that would make it an even better guitar. But make no mistake, even with its QC problems it's still the undisputed king of electric guitars and it don't look like things will ever be otherwise.

...to make the price "viable"? Dude, c'mon...that's kind of insulting, lol. There is NOTHING on this guitar that screams $2000, there is nothing that screams $1499. The binding is chopped right t.f. up it seems. They screwed the studios imo. Not a fan of these. The finish looks bad, like really bad. The studios from the 90s were workhorses that had.....class is the word that comes to mind. This is just...nope. Edit: $2000 and you dont even get the multi tool.

I really dig these but I can’t understand why they bothered with black binding on the ebony board without fret nibs…at that point the binding can barely be seen or felt. I’d rather it be unbound and slightly cheaper. Also satin finish might feel nice but makes it look cheap. At $1800 I’d be more excited but $2K seems excessive. I might still buy one but not in a rush. I was fortunate to find a 1990 Alpine white studio that I adore. I’d get the modern to pair with it but it could never replace my 1990.

Instead of “Studio” on the truss rod cover, they should replace “model” with “studio” on the headstock silkscreen. Like they did on the classics for a while.

I guess they really do need to keep the price of the cheapest Gibsons higher than the highest priced Ephiphones. The only thing the Studios had going for them was the price. You can get a used Standard way cheaper than a new Studio and cheaper than the fanciest Ephiphone, now. That just seems crazy to me. Times are definitely changing.

Uk price is £1999 for modern studio. I paid £1400 for the Tangerine Burst studio & I just got a PRS SE Custom for £600. I think I got the better deal.

2k is really a lot compared to what an LTD 1000 series offers you for 500 less... Overall a great guitar, unnecessary neck binding but at least we finally get a compound radius fingerboard on a studio

Pass on this new one. I bought the old 90s studio black with the ebony board.

I got one a month ago for a great price new. in wine red. the routes, not clean at all. surprisingly messy in the rear. and it had a bad phoenix connector, causing hum. all in all, lovely players guitar.

My friend has a Epi Modern LP with a nice flame top that was like $800 and all the push/pull options is too confusing for its own good.

Just to clarify: I don’t hate the finish because it’s satin, I hate it because it’s ugly & cheap looking. ❤️😎🎸

The satin finish makes me think that this one is a Tribute with some cosmetic upgrade. I think Gibson should at least give at least a gloss finish for the top, and leave the back and neck satin
@the_hippykiller227 ай бұрын
So this is essentially a tribute with ebony board for double the price? Gibson is going crazy with the pricing of their entry level guitars, this is literally unacceptable. That crappy paint for the price of a classic (expect it to be discontinued soon) with no case, f*** you Gibson. You are going back to the worst times of the juskiewicz era here

Re:Gibson finishing quality - bought an SG custom from new, the finishing was rough, very rough, especially up by the nut, appalling considering the price. Compared to a US Pro Strat finishing, it was third world and the SG was far more expensive. Just an FYI.

I think its ridiculous that people will pay that kind of money for an entry level Gibson that has faulty wiring or a bad pickup. The same brand snobs will turn their noses up at a $1499 Epiphone that comes with a $200 Gator TSA chainsaw case. The new '79 LP custom silverburst AJ sig. from Epiphone is packed with high end features, like the Gibson Custombucker neck pickup that retails for $279. If having your favorite brand on the headstock is important, buy a cobbled together weird looking Gibson. If you want the absolute highest spec'd and utterly gorgeous guitar Epiphone has ever produced, get on that preorder list. Because they aren't going to be "in stock" for at least 3-4 months minimum.

I bought my Gibson Studios brand new in the 1990's when they were $699.99. Basically I got 2 for less than the price of one with these new absolutely CRAZY prices on them. I also bought a 100 watt Marshall Super Triple lead combo amp for $750.00 new.

$2K is a JOKE. Love Gibson, but that guitar is overpriced and they just keep hiking up prices. 🤷🏼♂️

I would love to learn more about the 07-08 vintage mahogany Les Paul studios I’ve got one and is an amazing instrument! I’ve read at a forum that those models where using bodies from customs but I can’t be assure of it!
@Trog7 ай бұрын
What they are likely referring to is they are built “like” a 1957 reissue. They will still be slightly thinner though as is the nature of a studio. Great guitars!

I have NEVER seen the "worn white" in a Les Paul Studio. I only knew one player that had one. He bought it around (the year) 2003, and he was hell bent on a Les Paul. So, his woodgrain red finish model was obviously a "consolation prize." It stayed in tune really well, but that's all the "good" I have to say about it.
