The last three days I've been trying this. I felt uncomfortable with it. I remembered the wise words: If you leave your comfort zone a tiny bit each day and fail, get up and keep trying a little more-that's a good sign that you get better at what you are "working" on. That applies to almost everything you try to achieve. Today I started to get into a beautiful flow state and tried your suggestions on the pieces Mercy Mercy Mercy, Footprints, a minor blues progression and a piece of my own. For only having tried your method for only four days it worked increadably well. This is really exiting and beautiful and I can't wait to exploit this futher. It's a further step to step out of my bounderies-and it's only the beginning of a road to more freedom and inner peace. It's very close to walking a spiritual path. Thankyou soooo much. Love and peace

Thank you for this. It is both explaining a type of logic and at the same time freeing the thought of continuous repetition. This gives structure and at the same time permission to expand beyond the norm. This is Jazz for me. To experience the complexity and appreciate the virtuosity coming from a kind, compassionate, rational, voice and the very meaning full hand gestures completely captured me. Thank you for sharing this. I'm so glad to have found you and look forward to exploring more of your insights.

I had to pause and rewind many times 😅 Your playing is mesmerizing and your explanations incredibly interesting. These are such advanced professional tips that theory cannot even explain them easily ! I wonder if your Patreon is really helping you financially and how much you would need to make monthly to make this a half time or full time job ? Don't be shy about your financial goals because your are a true master, and so generous with your pro tips ! You deserve to succeed !

I've recently discovered, that I can give myself another treat by doing what did before-just on a higher level by adding it to your method: I used to play drone notes over the blues scale while playing blues by ocasionally adding a top note , which are notes from the two chords that can be found within the pentatonic or blues scale. Okay-that's a rather common thing to while soloing over a simple blues progression in order to add some spice, BUT when I tried your method on this video, I suddenly used the mentioned top notes while I used the polymodal on stacked pentatonic with or without the blue notes (black keys on the a-,e-,b-,c-,g-, and d-pentatonic scales after the third note). This sounded like the joy of madness when I started playing like this "outside". I'm pretty exited about what's still there for me to discover, and while using your method, I often experience deep peace inside as if sitting alone in a teepe (during a small rainbow gathering) keeping the fire before me going. Then I am alone without feeling lonely 💖. Thankyou again. Stay beautiful brother...

Hi Oliver. Watching your videos got me motivated to pick up piano again after 20 + years away. The style of jazz you play -- more modern, not just the standards -- is exactly what I want to play. Anyhow, I have relearned the 12 major and 12 natural minor scales, and am now working on triad inversions, arpeggios and speed. When I feel I have that foundation down, I will come back and dive into some of this stuff. I should probably learn all the pentatonic scales also. I knew nothing about modes before learning about them from you, so am also excited about getting into those. Also knew nothing about "hand grips" before learning from you. I hope to come to Copenhagen for the Jazz Festival in summer of 2022 and will pop over to Aarhus for a night or two for that Jazz fest, which I believe overlaps the Copenhagen festival. Maybe I will run into you in Aarhus.

@karlmccreight8763 жыл бұрын
Do you mean the wholetone scale? If yes, maybe this gives you a clue: In general, you can crunch all these mentioned scales down to only two scales. That is so, because this kind of scales have (unlike to all others major- or minor scales) no reference points like halftone-steps as you find in a major or natural minor scale. Thus you can not derive any modes (like church modes hidden inside an ordinary major scale). Whenever you try to play a wholtone-scale in different modes, you'll end up with another wholetone scale (due to the lack of halftone steps in this naughty little scale)-thus you can derive five other scales from one wholetone scale. If do so with the following basic scales, you'll end up with twelve wholtone scale-one for every key! First one: Play the black and the white tripletwin keys in a row. The black ones are easy to find. The white triples can be found where the black twins are ( so it's c, d and e). You'll end up with: c, d, e f#, g# and a#. They fit well with a the dominan-seven chords in c, d,e,f#,g#,a#with if you leave the fifths out (play the two guidelines plus root note only). Also they fit well with these chords if you play them altered with sharp fifths and ninths (#5 and #9) or flat fifths and ninths (b5 and b9). The second wholetone scale is created with the black twins (d-flat and e-flat) and the white quadro-twins (they are found in and around the black triple-twin keys:f,g,a and b). To find the dominant-7 chords you just procede like with the first scale mentioned above. These weird scales can also be used on augmented chords. Using these scale while soloing cause a quite eccentric mood similar to the soloing of telonius monk. When using it for composing, you'll get the sound of film music used in old black and white horror movies. Hope I could help...
