The Modular People and their history make for a very inspiring tale. From living shit-bricks to macro-multicellular organisms, left to waste away in a slow agonizing manner to becoming the new masters of their domain, it comes to show that with enough time and patience, we all can grow as people, and see that whatever cards the hands of fate have dealt you… You can do it. You can get through this mess called life. Whatever crap life has given you, whatever forces outside of your control, and whatever happened in the past before your time, You. Can. Do. It.

@@SignificantPressure100Yep. Of course given that any human group will have its outliers and independent thinkers, I like to think a minority of Mantelopes disapproved of the nihilism around them but were unfortunately not able to sway the majority and/or group together in large enough numbers to form a genetically viable tribe.

Personally, I would have much preferred it if it was an empire of the modular people that vanquished all foes, rose as the preeminent after-humans, and eventually went on to utterly destroy the Qu. How cool would it be if the lowliest, most pathetic, and most tormented amongst the Qu's victims ended up being the ones who would come to doom them? Honestly, that just seems like a great way to bring the story of humanity's downfall and the triumph that followed to a close.
@Beaver_Monday2 жыл бұрын
I wanted that to also be true. It's not very realistic though. Unless you write the Qu into a corner where you invent some reason for them collapsing internally and becoming a shadow of their former selves, the Asteromorphs are the only species with the ability to match the Qu in power. Modulars are simply too far behind. But it would be justice. Imagine if, after the Gravitals were defeated, the Modulars used New Machine technology to rebuild new bodies for themselves which looked like their former humanoid Star People ancestors. The bodies look like classic humans, but are superior in every way, built for war. They transfer their consciousness into these superior synthetic bodies and lay waste to the Qu.
@trocodilo Жыл бұрын
Yet. It would make the story of humanity being one of revenge against the Qu, wich is arguably far from what history really is. Personally, I rly like that the Qu would be destroyed by the Asteromorphs, the only ones that saw all that happen, while the Modular people had an uncomprehensible amount of time of prosperity and civilization within it's own kind, and the other human species of the 2nd empire. It makes for such a triumph to feel real, whilist much more of a rewarding experience
@trocodilo Жыл бұрын
@@Beaver_Monday It would be a nice what if scenario also if all the collonies of modular people futurelly would become able to develop some sort of advanced hive mind, making them not colonies, but one singular planet-sized reef-like sentient structure. I think that path would also be able to lay some true damange upon the Qu

Although cliché, it would have been so interesting to explore the idea of the Modular being the key to the Qu's downfall. Through hundreds of thousands of years of cell symbiosis, with only one drive. To wipe their creators from existence. The only life form that the Qu could not comprehend, let alone contain, conquer or exterminate.

I say the Modular People are the most complex and the most unknown species, because we don't know how could evolve? Could they reproduce? did they forgot not like the Mantilopes but in whole of lost memory because lack of sanity as an colonial? are there still colonials refusing to adapt the new ways if so were they use as the living structures and maybe even living space ships through same genetics engineering? Lastly is their leadership in the hivemind or is it all equal? and so on and so forth. But its also how they evolve is makes them both rarer and more unique in both All Tomorrows universe but in SIFI in whole.

They truly interesting. On the topic how thy could evolve, there are "modular people" in real life :) en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Siphonophorae Nice video about them: kzbin.info/www/bejne/kKezo4VmobKAmJY In a sense we are not so different. We are a modular people too :D billions of cells organizing into to different tissues, organs to form one individual. Yet we never question what for e.g. a single liver cell of ours might "think" about the next beer ;D

So does each Module-Person make their own decision as to what type of larger structure they want to join? Like, let’s say I was one of the lookout types. Would I get a decision as to whether I wanted to join a military unit versus, say, a builder group or an artistic group, depending on the types of things I liked and was best at observing? And after doing so, would each module be rapidly polled for their decisions or would it be a total hive mind where some modules gave up their free will?

Imagine if over billions of years the Modular’s all merged together and evolved into a whole ass planet with flesh tentacles and flesh fruit to provide resources to its residents or attack stuff they dislike. This would lead to two super comedic moments, imagine if the Qu land on this planet and then suddenly they look down and notice a mouth. “Remember me” Or if the planet evolved the ability to move through space and weaponize itself and just ends up at the Qu’s doorstep. “REMEMBER US!”
