I remember watching that show, and for the first 20 seconds being utterly SCANDALIZED that a soul, pop singer thought she had the chops to stand in for the great Pavarotti. No, she didn't sing it the way HE would have. She did it HER way, with power, depth and style. I learned a lesson. Never underestimate the Queen!

I see how the media grand stands by not completely telling the story. They give the impression that she learned the song in an hour and got on stage and performed it... NOT!!! She has done this song before and she has studied in school as well. However, she was magical and very entertaining to say the least. Rest in peace Mrs. Franklin.

She actually sang the song for him a few days earlier at a Musicare Foundation event. He ran to the stage in praise of her performance. So, he had confidence she could step in for him. All she needed to know was whether she could handle the key he sang in. Otherwise, the sheet music would probably have been altered for a key she was comfortable. She really saved the day and some expense for the Grammys that day. I really liked how she put her own spin on it at the end which put the icing on the cake for me.

That adorable young man spoke for ALL of us when he said "I LOVE YOU!" My eyes were tearing up at the sheer magnificence of her performance, but that precious little dude made me lose it. I'm a blubbering mess and can barely see my keyboard now. It's been two years, but I will always miss her. So grateful she left us with a treasure trove of music to enjoy. She was already a fan of Opera, but to put it in action with your own voice & style? Amazing!! The Music Industry missed the boat on this one for all her Gospel, R&B, & long time Fans would have been clamoring for this CD. Especially as a Christmas set. My, my, my!! Lord, bless her Soul & Family!!

Undoubtedly a great performance, but seeing as this is not in Pavarotti's key (D major) this was undoubtedly not a last minute decision since the arrangement had to be transposed. Also, they cut out the part where Sting says that she had performed the piece at a concert 2 nights earlier. No need to add to the legend. It's magical enough. variety.com/1998/scene/vpage/pavarotti-sets-tone-for-musicares-gala-1117468077/

I was a consultant at a business that I was told had a toxic culture. While there I used Aretha’s RESPECT as a method of getting the staff to think of positive words that started with each letter. This was the beginning of the turn around of the culture to positive. So much so that an article was written about it.. Thank you Aretha for guiding me to using the word RESPECT from your song to turn this staff around.

I came across this song while watching the movie THE UPSIDE... this song was played towards the end of the movie. Before this, I had no idea Aretha Franklin had performed this song. I've never been a fan of opera until I heard this song. Since then, I've added this song to my Playlist ❤

I know that you and others like us know what Ms.Franklin songs have done for us over the years in terms of getting us threw the hard times and good times. I think about some of my friends and relatives listening to her voice who areally no longer here with me. The Queen of Soul may be gone but never will she be forgotten.
