But at the same time it was super basic. It’s jus how well he uses his skills as well as who he did it to that makes it seem like such a next level showing of technique. It’s kinda like Donald Cerrones KO of Rick Story. It was a simple jab, cross, jab to a head kick. But the way he placed it and the way he put his weapons on target while the opponent was moving away and to the side was wat made it so next level. There’s complexity even in the simple.

Dustin has been active, he has also evolved. Unfortunately, Conor has not. Conor destroyed Alvarez in November 2016. He fought Mayweather in August 2017, Khabib in October 2018, Beat a washed-up Cerrone in January 2020. Conor has not been the same since the Alvarez fight. He lost his focus with MMA by getting the 'Show pony fight' with Mayweather, after that, he lost his discipline by getting into trouble too many times, it's all got to his head. Fame and Fortune have weakened him, it has exposed flaws in his character, as it would with most of us. He has had only 3 MMA fights in 4 years and 2 months. He did not even attempt to defend those calf kicks with Dustin. I would be surprised if we ever see the old Mcgregor again.

Conor. Massive win streak and titles by being light on his feet and using kicks. Comes back after fighting Floyd and thinks he can just box and totally changes how he fights... Makes sense. Now he's the stiff, stuck in the mud fighter he talked about at that press conference. Weird choice.

At the same time he was never SO light on his feet... always a fighter who favored less movement over more. But what he did have he didn't show in this fight
@CJ-pw9jm3 жыл бұрын
In the beginning what he was really good at was cutting weight.
@davidv40183 жыл бұрын
He was never light at his feet in 155. Not even against Alvarez, and he beat Alvarez exhibition style. I would stop blaming his stance, he struggles at this weight against top fighters. Everytime a fighter uses their reach, Conor struggles (even at the beginning of the fight against Alvarez). Being light at his feet would only make him gas faster. At lower weights he had the reach, and his magic is the counter, which is a problem when your opponents show distance and kicks.

@Kenank_TV what's your take on Conor's time in the UFC? Your analysis is ridiculous spot on. Does he have a few left or do YOU think he's done and should retire with his dignity? I'm not a fan much of McGregor but fighters shouldn't go out knowing they're on a losing end of their career and I mean by any fight towards the end.
@monitorlizard99713 жыл бұрын
This video is absolutely correct. Dustin is just a better fighter at this point and completely outplayed him. Conor looked uncomfortable trying to force hits or find shots for dustin. It was like watching a tier B go against a tier S. that is like conor is 2 entire brackets behind the top 5 and anyone who is capable of a top 5 in this meta. Yeah conor got a couple decent hits when dustin stayed in conors 1 range where he succeeds at. But shit man he outplayed him in every single aspect. I feel like conor isnt on the same level as any top 5 or 7 in any division of the ufc. Not only that conors energy and fight shape looked very mediocre even from the start and fell off within only a couple minutes of the fight. I feel like conor hasnt been able to make fight shape since 145 or maybe alvarez. I think its drinking and partying and eating too rich of food. When I had a 6 pack, if i drank 1 beer or ate shitty just once, my bodies shape would be completely cut in half for a long time and it would take forever to get over that feeling where I would be able to eat clean and perform at my peak. If someone is drinking even just casually, I think it takes more of a toll than people really understand, especially when youre competing with guys who never take that hit who are not drinking, who are able to remain at their peak and even push their peak higher. drinking just flushes all that work down the drain. Even just 1 buzz can screw your whole rejiment up and set you back weeks or months and possibly forever youll never have the same potential. I remember when I trained that is exactly how it felt when I still let myself drink casually while also trying to press my peak performances while training. I was fat, so I decided to go full tilt for 1 year or more to get a 6 pack and I got shredded about as possible as I could naturally, I trained extremely hard daily on everything from athletic performance, to body building, to having the absolute best possible cardio, and all of those 3 things couldnt be possible if I drank or ate rich foods. a candy bar or a couple sweets was great for me but any indulging or alcohal at all would abolish all my hard work for weeks. to 1 beer would feel like I needed an entire week of savagely working out 8 hours a day to get back to where I was before i had that drink. And at age 32 is not young, It would probably be x10 at age 30+
@monitorlizard99713 жыл бұрын
@Haralds Brauns I think there are things you learn during a ufc bout that you cannot replicate in training. conor hasnt been active and learning these things like the upper league fighters in the ufc have been doing. conor always looks very stale, almost unrecognizable in his recent ufc fights.

Decent breakdown but they left out the fact that after Dustin slowed Conor with landing a few calf kicks; Conor began catching low kicks and countering with throwing an overhand. Also, Dustin was always drawing Conor into the pocket but only after destroying the calf a bit to take away his timing. It was a beautiful game plan by Poirier executed with dare I say Greg Jackson like precision.

The leg kicks only worked cuz Dustin was able to take that left. Everything worked because... he took his shots, this time
@hibernopithecus75003 жыл бұрын
Dustin could only take the flat-footed version because it's weaker than the full-reach version. And the kicks could only land as frequently and squarely as they did coz of the flat-footed style. I honestly don't think he expected to have that much opportunity to land, otherwise he'd have kept pushing the takedown and finished him later. But he grabbed his opportunity with both hands, adjusted his plan on the fly and got the well deserved win.

It worked cuz conor just sat in from of dustin in the pocket which conor has never fought from....he just stood in front of dustin..... fighting like that dustin will win everytime it's his fight.....the leg kicks worked in the first fight too even knocking conor down off a spinning back kick.... only difference was conor didnt continue to stay there to take more punishment.... rewatch both rights conor moves in and out and even kicks at times....when he kicks he takes away a leg to be kicked as well... he was just there to be hit and dustin will capitalize everytime

Fun fact, for 2 fights now Dustin has outlanded Conor at a 52% clip and 85%+ of his leg kicks in both fights. He got caught behind the ear in the first fight which could bring anyone down, but while both of these guys have struck each other across 2 fights, Dustin has looked better as 66% of Conors losses have come from southpaws, which seems to be a weakness as he struggles to avoid certain strikes and combinations. It’s safe to say regardless of result, Dustin WILL Outland Conor in the striking realm.
