Guarantee this is the most high-stress situation they've ever seen since joining, that should put at least a little perspective on their actions. I was staying in a pretty remote community in Northern Quebec and my friend would drive so fast on the highways cause they were usually empty. At one point he was going 180kph and while turning going into the other lane, slowing down just a bit for the turns. I never got in a car with him again. It's a good thing too cause he got into an accident like a month after that

I think that a legitimate invention for upcoming cop cars is going to be a version of road spikes (maybe a whip or lasso) which is deployable from behind in a chase. Similar technology, such as the grapple, exists already and proves to be quite effective.
