The Non-Canon Expert looks at the horrifying final days of Darth Plagueis, where the Dark Lord of the Sith would find himself looking at the conclusions made by Jedi Master Qui-Gon Jinn from a very unique perspective, explaining why Qui-Gon would become his greatest fear during the events of The Phantom Menace.

Qui-Gon is that guy that wandered into a scrapyard looking for parts... and didn't even sense that the little kid helping them was a nexus of force energy, and had higher M levels than Yoda. Anakin literally had to follow them down the street invite them to his home, and then drop about a half dozen hints that he might be force sensitive... before Qui-Gon even suspected anything.

@@corradoalamanni179 Actually Qui-Gon's lightsaber fighting style was either similar or the same as Yoda's, with a lot of flips and acrobatic moves and using the force to enhance the body's capabilities, but it was during his older age he couldn't move the same so he instead of learning another fighting style just altered that same acrobatic style to fit how he could move. Haha I bet you couldn't guess how old Qui-Gon was during Episode 1, but it might surprise you! And that's actually the main reason he lost to Darth Maul, just his age making him less capable with his fighting style as well as Qui-Gon getting tired far more quickly than during his youth. In case you wanted me to tell you his age instead of looking it up, Qui-Gon was 60 in Episode 1. Isn't that surprising? But very awesome!

jessica 6d9 The most important part of his comment was about Jins fighting style. Dooku was form 2 which wouldn’t get worse with age, if anything it would get better. As a form that revolves around elegant Sabre combat the wisdom from previous battles only improved his duelling capabilities. Jins style however being mostly acrobatic would get substantially worse with age yet Jin opted to stick with said style.

One of the great scenes from the Darth Plagueis novel was when Qui-Gon met Plagueis as his alter-ego Hego Damask. Even then Qui-Gon didn't like him, so it would be pretty amazing to see how he would react if he knew Damask was the Dark Lord who's Order he would eventually help to destroy. It would be an epic long battle between them both with both of them exhausted and critically injured. Qui Gon Jinn is a Top Tiered Jedi Master and Plagueis is a Top Tiered Sith Lord. Yes it is a massive feat that Darth Maul killing Qui Gon Jinn for Darth Maul is a Sith Assassin that is personally trained to kill Jedi and him able to kill a Top Tiered Jedi Master is a massive feat.

2 things: One: the Darth Plagueis novel is one of the best EU books ever. Two:. There were early scripts where Qui-Gon and Plagueis unwittingly plotted against each other (among other possibilities).

@@rudygomez8593 well knowing that Qui-Gon was a maveric jedi master. He would have taught Anakin to use and harness his feelings (as he would be unable to suppress them).He would then act more as a father figure to Anakin tempering his outburst while focusing greatly on his talents. Its often noted that the Jedi Council did much during Anakin's age between 10-15 in hampering his skills, often frustrating the padawan instead of nurturing his talent. The council felt that if they were to develop his strengths/acknowledge them he would grow arrogant (although the reverse happen, his frustration fueled his arrogance). SO Qui-Gon most likely would have personally trained him and gotten Obi-Wan to help when he was not called away on business.

@@tori9365 In minimal terms: The Duel between Darth Maul and Qui-gon Jinn with Obi-wan Kenobi lasted for a long time during the Battle of Theed. Darth Maul being a Zabrak (excuse my spelling) and trained from a young age to be a fighter, battling multiple opponents numerous times, was more competent as a fighter due to having my stamina than Qui-gon and more experience than Kenobi. Maul had clashed with Qui-gon on Tatooine and was analyzing his fighting style. Coupled with the fact that Maul's lightsaber form is a poor match for Qui-gon's. Before getting seperated, Kenobi's constant barrage kept up the pressure, preventing Maul from forming a counter offensive. As they progress into the shield hall, the fight between Maul and Jinn became more and more evenly matched. In the final bout he found an opening and took it. Then we factor in that Jedi with green lightsabers are counselors that focus more on the force than combat and they were in an era of relative peace without many lightsaber battles with sith and especially against saberstaffs. There are whole videos on KZbin that can explain it better than I if you really want a break down as to why Qui-gon lost to Maul.

The new canon doesn't matter, friend. He will always be important, just like Luke will always be the Luke Skywalker that's in Episodes 3-6, not the ignorant "fan-fic" depiction that was given to us in The Last Jedi. What you have to realize is what is "canon" doesn't matter, the Legends / Expanded Universe wasn't canon but it still almost entirely fit PERFECTLY into the canon context, and no matter how you try to look at it, Disney's trilogy does NOT fit into the canon context, which sucks because Rogue One is amazing and fits into canon perfectly, but not the Disney trilogy, friend. If you really care about canon then what you're saying is if Disney decided to remove the Prequels and Original Trilogy from canon and replaced them with a Muppet Special, THAT is what "real Star Wars" is to you just because the owners say so? No, friend. What the owners say doesn't make it fit into The Universe. Many people had problems with the prequels but they could NEVER say it didn't fit into Real Star Wars. But Disney's fan-fiction trilogy doesn't fit into real Star Wars. So there's no need to care about their canon. Just read more EU / Legends stuff:) There's even a time when Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan as force ghosts spoke to Vader, not appearing physically, but talking to him. The EU is FAR more REAL Star Wars than the "Disney Canon" will ever hope to be.

I remember that the most startling revelation for me upon the release of the Plagueis novel was the fact that he was alive up to the events of the Phantom Menace. when Palpatine seemed to be the mastermind behind everything, there was a third Sith. he, Plagueis, was the unseen threat. he was behind it all.

Because there was no consequence Plagueis wanted to do something even more extreme and pushed his power on every being in the galaxy to attempt to create a being storng in the force, but this time it resisted him and created Anakin to eventually strike back at the Sith.

Because force ghost can only pass on wisdom, not knowledge. They can't intervene on events. The Jedi Order being destroyed was actually part of "balancing the force".

Stopping at 1:15 before I finish, this makes what happened on Naboo much more interesting. Maul may have failed to kill both Jedi but he killed Qui Gon. Thus sealing the Jedi's fate. Sidious really should have appreciated his apprentices success.

I know that it is now Legends but when Plagueis sent Maul to kill Qui Gon because of a Force Vision, I can't help but think of what another character in the Destiny universe once said. "But will my actions avert the futures I see, or cause them?" Osiris is a Warlock who could peer into the future with Vex Technology. So it could be that in Legends Star Wars he caused the events he saw.

I wish we had gotten a Plagueis movie. With so much negativity around anything Disney Star Wars these days I don't want them to touch it. Because even if it's actually good (which is rare now unfortunately), it's going to get shit on by scorned and disenfranchised fans. And I'm by no means trying to knock the fans here. I'm hoping they just stick to new shit so no more legacy characters and stories get tarnished and altered.

@@harrambou9468 They absolutely are getting some things right. I agree with you. But I'm still nervous especially with their support from fans being so shaky. Then there's the fact they cannot seem to realize we just want thought out story arcs and characters on a consistent basis. It makes me suspect they will double down on what they think will essentially trick us into buying their product by loading everything with lots of nostalgia but not really any substance. All the while potentially causing more damage by not truly understanding what we're actually wanting. You know, more story arcs and characters that took time, passion and care to get right. And I'm not promoting the Star Wars fatigue argument. I'm fine with lots of new content. But only if said content is getting the care it needs. Random side note; I think it would have been cool if they did something like the MCU and released the new trilogy in phases. Phase one would give a movie to Finn (as a First Order soldier), Poe (doing his Poe Dameron thing), Rey (as a junker on Jakku) and Ben/Kylo (either training and traveling with Luke or training with Snoke). Give us backstory and reasons to care. Then end phase with Episode 7. Rinse and repeat for 8 and 9. I get that is technically not original like I was indirectly whining about before. But it's a good way to get a lot of content out over several years, building support for the new trilogy and theme park. And they could test out new ideas and directors without risking the actual trilogy movies.

So let me get this straight. Darth P. actually assaulted the force itself, and the force struck back at him by making Anakin? No wait hang on I just learned more. The force only created Anakin after Darth P. attempted to create a whole new being from the force. After that failed, the force actually ran away from P. and struck back at him by creating life on its own, which would be the chosen one Anakin Skywalker.
