That final tear made me cry. And I've cried over it twice more since I saw it a few hours ago. This is my favorite version of Zelda so far, because she actually has opinions and makes decisions, something which is kind of lacking in a lot of Zelda games. The slow buildup as she puts all the pieces in place for the deep, horrible sacrifice she's about to make, only for her last words to be a scream of "protect them all!" It's just so gut-wrenching. She gave up absolutely everything and never for a second thought about herself. Not just because she wants to defeat Ganon, but because she holds so much love in her heart for every person living in her kingdom and must see them safe. It's such a perfect way to bring a resolution to the self-doubt she felt for failing to harness her powers before the Calamity, a true arc that I've seen a lot of people complaining she didn't really have much of in BotW. She finally succeeded, and saved everyone... And it was the end of her. And now I'm crying again, so make that 4 times.

Zelda has a lot of references to japanese culture and religion, but there are lots of references to ancient near east too, specifically ancient cosmic geography, sacred numbers and other stuff. The view of sacred realm above the skies and the "depths" is very similar to ancient near eastern cosmic geopraphy, specifically the parallel between sacred realm and the heaven above and the depths and the deep sheol below. We see the topic of sacred numbers in the number 7 and 3 too. There are always 7 sages, spirits, heroes, etc. The number 7 used to represent spiritual perfection in the ancient context. Also, the number 3 is very important in mesopotamian and hebrew cultures, meaning divine perfection. The Triforce has an interesting parallel with the christian concept of the Trinity, where three are one. This "messianic" expectation of the hero is also interesting.

Thanks for your comment FelipeForte and couldn't agree more. I've actually learned a lot about Japanese culture from Zelda, but surprisingly more and more about other traditions and regions from across the globe and different moments in time - it's fascinating stuff, and to be honest, I worry about what I don't know when I do these theories for fear of making a mistake. The ancient near east cosmic geography is one I'm completely lost on, so that's a great piece of advice for me to look into, specifically with some of the connections I'm picking up with the runes and symbology overlays - really appreciate the heads up, and have a great day 💚🌟

The most immediate source for the Seven Sages in Zelda is from Hinduism, however. The Sapta Rishi (literally, "Seven Sages") are said to be a group who reincarnate together at the beginning of every age of the world in that religion. The symbols used for them since Ocarina of Time are additionally taken from the emblems of the chakras, which originate in Indian spiritual traditions as well. While the idea of a triune godhead probably was influenced initially by Christianity, as we know the Zelda series made references to it early on before the lore was stabilized, the decision from ALttP onward to use a specifically female group of three goddesses seems to be heavily influenced by a particular strain of Hinduism called Shaktism, which asserts that the divine feminine is the supreme creative force of the universe.

@Yarblocosifilitico
@Yarblocosifilitico 10 ай бұрын
@@QuasarEE the thing is, Hinduism has a lot of influences with Zoroastrianism, which predates it. The 7 Amesha Spentas comes to mind. Same reason there's usually 7 Archangels in Christianity. The idea of a trio of Gods probably comes (ultimately) from the ancient PIE mythical founders: Manu (the first man) (Din), Yemo (the first priest) (Hylia), and Trito (the first warrior) (Farore). I'm not trying to refute the Hindu influences. Just pointing out that everything is connected to very very old roots, which I think it's precisely why we love LoZ's mix of eastern and western religions, because it helps us recognize the similarities rather than to focus on the differences.

So something similar happens in BOTW, if you put the image of Zelda holding the Master Sword right before she puts it back and the scene of Link holding the Master Sword right after pulling it side by side, it connects and they’re BOTH holding the Sword!

There are 2 Master Swords existing at the same time in the same timeline. A past already written for the future which was deemed uncertain, but given hope of its prosperity. If you piece together the timeline as such, the Master Sword from the future existed in the past as the same blade held by the Hero of the Wilds, the sword from the future existed with the Light Dragon prior to BotW's story, but you were pretty much unknown to the Light Dragon as it had existed in the Cloud Barrier that separates the skies and the surface from being seen. But at the same time the Master Sword we came to collect in BotW also existed within Korok Forest, the conscience of Fi within the sword would be already self-aware of a second self existing in the same time and place, the sword as far as we know from BotW that we collected had always existed within Korok Forest which has been watched over and protected through the ages. Fi who can transcend time knew when the moment was right where she could be recalled to the past to exist with the Light Dragon to be restored and become more powerful than before. What is most curious though however is the fact that neither Rauru or Mineru seemed to know nothing of the Master Sword's existence, which does bring into question where the Master Sword was in the past there, Korok Forest as far as we could see isn't as fully grown as we seen in BotW and TotK, didn't seem to have that thick heavy fog/mist that covers it, the sword existing there in that time could probably still be there under the watch of a more younger Deku Tree whose only just a sprout at the time and not yet a fully grown tree. The stone pedestal which houses the sword would probably and most likely have existed there in secret for many years, until it was needed in the first appearance of Calamity Ganon and the Ancient Hero who wields it as shown on the tapestry. Learning the existence of the sword would be hard to come by unless there was hints with scriptures in various places and such detailing such a sword existing in a hidden location under safeguard. You could perhaps explain it under the fact that when the sword is most in need, it then calls out to it's chosen hero of that time by some divine intervention of sorts, like a ghost that beckons towards its presence, much like how Fi called to the Hero of the Sky by manifesting a physical form to follow. But in the way of the Ancient Hero probably heard of it by the likes of the Goddess Statues which called to them which we already know the Goddess Statues can do to communicate a message to someone, like say for example the Mother Goddess Statue we find in the Forgotten Temple. We still have no idea where that statue existed prior to being placed in the Forgotten Temple, as it is the same one as found in Skyward Sword.

Very cool - excellent read this. So adding to it I wonder about Fi to be Hylia’s manifestation of handling the “irrational chaos” of variability brought about in planning against a being said to have conquered time. Purely simplistic example was my “Easter egg” reference in the video and you have triggered one. I teferenced in the quiz prior the “Chris Houlihan” Room as Nintendo’s method of handling a bug of sorts in ALTTP. By logic it’s not accessible nor required, but exists as an equal and opposite reaction to the chaotic nature of the design and player. I don’t think I’m good at explaining it, but Fi would act like a self contained Chris Houlihan room in that, in response to your quandry, she is able to trigger regardless of the irrational trigger of chaos which then, I believe acts to call out to the threads and events to bring order to chaos. But in doing so, this dance is inevitable albeit in another form or space in time as the very act causes an iteration on the sequence by its very nature of occurrence. My words are not great, but in order to stop darkness from consuming all in its hunger for chaos, Hylia chose to “hold court” in an eternal dance to push and pull, leveraging the Hylian spirit of the hero as her counterpart across reality and Fi acting to score the dance in an eternal waltz, as is her very generative being infinite and exponentially expanding to match the growing hunger of the chaos. Not sure I’m making sense but I’ve noted some In lore clues suggesting interpretation has to go beyond 3 and dare I say it 4 dimensions to make sense of it. Your example of the Master sword accurately highlights an example of what I mean. It’s very nature is irrational from a single plain or perspective but if we share our viewpoints and I can see it through your eyes too, I’ve gained an extra dimensional argument I did not have at my disposal prior to publishing this video. This very discussion is chaotic by chance, but Fi/Phi has enabled our dialogue and so we have changed our reality and now exist in a new iteration. I’m not the smartest nor best at anything I do, but with others in this community I find the courage to try. I appreciate this comment so much and applaud your efforts and could not be more humbled by the experience to talk with cool people. Thank you 💫💚

@@gamesmiths I have a theory that the reason why Zelda couldn't unlock her powers 100 years ago during the Calamity was due to the fact that she (as the Light Dragon) was pouring all her sacred power to the master sword to restore it. So it'd make some sense that Zelda 100 years ago couldn't unlock it until the very end since she is simultaneously using ALL of it to heal the master sword. We know that she was using the same power to heal the master sword (sealing/sacred power) because the Triforce mark was shown in her arm while she was holding the Master Sword in the cutscene after you pull it out. (Zelda's wish) And when Zelda 100 years ago used her sacred power the same triforce mark appears in her hand. However that seems power is different from Rauru's, we know that Zelda possesses 'light' power and time power but when we see Rauru using his power it doesn't look anything like Zelda's light power (sealing power). The triforce mark does not even appear in Rauru's arm. So that makes me wonder, does Zelda's power date even back before Hyrule's era of founding? I mean, we can see the triforce on Sonia's hand but it is not mentioned at all. You'd think that Rauru, a Zonai, who are literally descendants of Gods would be the one to have it however that does not seem to be the case. Tears of the kingdom made everything even more confusing, however I love it! It adds more spice to the already spicy and complicated story.
@uoflfan01
@uoflfan01 10 ай бұрын
@@BR-pc5cp I personally subscribe to the theory that “Sealing Power” is actually a full triforce passed through the Zelda bloodline. I used to believe it was Zelda’s love for Link that made her unlock her power, however; if it is the triforce inside of her, to use it without it splitting she would need to have all 3 (Power, Wisdom, Courage) balanced. I believe she had Power and Wisdom but until she stepped in for Link in BOTW, she had lacked courage. I also believe that since it’s almost forgotten at this point it would make sense that the triforce could be this “Sealing Power” passed through a bloodline which would eventually make it a mythical object that seemingly disappeared. The fact that her triforce lights up with all 3 triangles is pretty hard proof in my opinion m, that Zelda is using the triforce in some way or a version of it.
@BR-pc5cp
@BR-pc5cp 10 ай бұрын
@@uoflfan01 That's true but if it was Zelda's bloodline, why didn't Rauru or Sonia know anything of it? (Considering the fact that they are Zelda's ancestors and they all share the same blood.) They both just felt Sonia's time power and Rauru's light power. However they referred to Zelda's triforce power as a "Sacred power". It doesn't look like they noticed that it was the triforce. The only evidence we have that tells us that they might have known about it was Sonia's triforce tattoo on her arm.

Studied on an academic level* I always have enjoyed the open-to-interpretation stories, like the films Kurosawa, Lynch or Welles. You don't need to smack the viewer in the face with yer message, that's why Bob Dylan songs (IMO) are so great, even when they are about specific things, there's lots of open interpretation to unlocking yer own meaning to the songs, a deep personal memory or overwhelming feeling might be triggered by a word combined with the right chord change or intonation. It's fascinating IMO.

It has been said that story in The Legend of Zelda is rather simple, and some people disliked the plot in Tears of the Kingdom. And maybe these opinions are right. But I think that there is... something in this simplicity. It's like the Zelda series is appealing to the depths of human consciousness, to the basic concepts of our mind. Maybe the same concepts that many centuries ago formed into heroic gods, such as Prometheus, Odin, Amaterasu, Quetzalcoatl, and many others.
@gamesmiths

user-wp8yg8ju9y - I couldn't agree with you more, and indeed, that's what I've picked up in terms of the devs approach. I covered an interview dating back to 2014 in the video before this one (Iwata Asks: The Legend of Skyward Sword, Nintendo, 2014, www.nintendo.co.jp/wii/interview/souj/vol8/) where Fujibayashi reflects on the learnings from Miyamoto - very much in line with this concept of Miyamoto's success being garnered from understanding the universal appeal of "feeling" as opposed to something intrinsic to specific knowledge or culture. It's a great read, but I thought I'd share it as it very much supports your point. Factoring in the Golden Ratio, what I know of the various mythological references and progression, I really do feel there is a shift in the storytelling to embrace the medium as part of carrying those legacies you mention into the future via the medium of gaming. Could be thinking too optimistically, but I'd like to think people who are so passionate about what they do would also be aware of the legacy they leave future generations. Thanks for sharing this comment, it was great to read and insightful. All the best 💚🌟

great video! i do love the connections you draw between the increasing numbers of the golden ratio and the significant sets of numbers in the game, such as the five sages, three elements in the triforce etc. what i don't understand however is the seeming trend of how people simply take the diagram of the golden ratio and overlay it over random pictures, shrinking and stretching it to fit. so i was honestly negatively taken aback when i saw the golden ratio spiral slapped over the picture of link and zelda reaching for each other. were there any specific points in the picture where measurements of the ratio lined up, or did you just put the spiral over the picture and it kind of fit? (genuine question :) )

The golden ratio has been used to represent proportions in nature and art that are considered aesthetically pleasing, suggesting a connection between beauty and balance. The Fibonacci sequence has been used to model growth patterns in nature, such as the arrangement of leaves on a stem or the branching of trees. These concepts all explore different aspects of infinity and the relationship between zero and infinity.there are several concepts that could be seen as abstractly related to these mathematical ideas. The Triforce, for example, is a sacred relic that represents the three virtues of power, wisdom, and courage. It is often depicted as a triangle made up of three smaller triangles, which could be seen as representing the idea of infinity, with each triangle representing one aspect of the infinite. Fi, the spirit of the sword, who resides within the Goddess Sword. She was created by the goddess Hylia to assist her chosen hero in fulfilling his destiny. She could be seen as representing balance and harmony, helping Link to achieve his goals and fulfill his destiny. Similarly, the golden ratio, represented by the Greek letter phi (φ), is often associated with balance and harmony in art and nature. Both Fi and Phi could be seen as representing the idea of balance and harmony in their respective contexts. The goddesses are powerful beings who play a significant role in shaping the world and its history. They could be seen as representing different aspects of infinity, with their power and influence extending throughout time and space. The dragons in the series are also powerful creatures who play important roles in the world. They could be seen as representing different aspects of infinity as well, with their strength and longevity. And to top it all off the Dragons are all directly connected to the Quests in TOTK and require offerings to the respective statues by way of a scale of the regions dragon. And to add more flames to the fire, Zelda is light and time. Light is also another word for the literal space in time when considering the space we are able to percieve is light itself. So Zelda is the Space Time continuum. But even more crazy is the role of Ganon, his spirit representing dark energy. Black holes are TEARS in the fabric of SPACE(LIGHT) AND TIME. So the WHOLE GAME is a reference to our universes mathematical and physical reality with Ganon ripping the map into three dimensions. Considering how they relate to the ideas of time and space I would like to throw my 2 cents in and try to see if there is come connection to The Möbius strip which can be seen as a representation of time looping back on itself, with no beginning or end.
@gamesmiths
@gamesmiths 10 ай бұрын
Hi Coleman, completely agree with you and without going into a lengthy explanation, you’ll find various references to the concepts you are raising and comments I’ve replied to on this video ( eg Phi acting to restore balance and acting as the the connection between space and time and triggered to bring the hero and princess together to execute the restoration of the event - that being the current calamity) and her representation as an infinite account of endless decimals as an irrational number means she can essentially cover the expanse of time and space that chaos envelops allowing the rectification of balance regardless of the extent. You’ll notice references to this as part of my theory arc I’ve been alluding to for some time ( check the thumbnail for “Forgotten” where the symbolism might ring a bell) so we are very much on the same page. I have more to reinforce this concept based on information from Nintendo that supports this perspective, more so a four dimensional perspective of the reality of the Zelda series. It’s fascinating stuff and the biggest challenge I have in expanding this conversation is the fact I do as a hobby. I can assure you though, I’ve found plenty more and it does get even more interesting. Love your work Coleman, and thanks for sharing the appreciation on the level few do, but in this sense we are thinking in tandem 💚💫

So I have always been obsessed with God’s finger print (golden ratio/fibonacci sequence). The part where you said the two ones represent the alpha and omega, beginning and end opened my eyes to that of God too. Blew my mind that I never thought of it before. Thanks for this new well of knowledge for me to go down. I’m so excited 😊 Also your video was great, lots of things I never noticed in the game! Your very perceptive!

Thanks so much @ShapeShifterKibayo - that's a lovely comment, and I'm very glad you enjoyed it and all I can say is, there is a LOT more about that particular rabbit hole I have yet to detail in theory videos. Please be patient with me as I do these aside from my usual job, but I very much look forward to expanding on some of the findings that go much deeper in terms of what's covered here. For example, a few people in the comments have picked up on some Easter Eggs showing more connections, but there are still plenty more findings to cover that delve into more Zelda lore and history which is super exciting. All the best 💚🌟

Link and Zelda together at the end form the final tear. GET IT!? AND it goes forward instead of backward like the other tears do.

KBroly - well done!! I said I like to hide Easter Eggs and indeed that comparison is one of them I’m planning to touch on with another video. No one else has picked that up but finally someone did 🌟. Awesome work and it’s a direct mimic of the Magatama / Yin Yang overlay and would also represent the golden ratio balancing at the point of connection and then going the other way. The symbolism is just so well done by Nintendo and subtle, but for us to discover is such a treat. Awesome stuff mate and thanks for letting me know - it’s great to see someone pick these things up. I keep getting told I’m too subtle with the editing and should state it plainly but I think it’s better to show the facts and let the viewer determine what they interpret and it’s rewarding when you make those discoveries. Made my day hearing that - thank you 🌟💫💚💫💚

I’m really glad you did though. You might appreciate something else that I haven’t really covered openly - the yin Yang type shaping , also mirrored in that scene, matches the symbol typically aligned with the Spirit Sage you would see in Ocarina of Time which is pretty cool too considering the events of the game. Very cool symbology at play here for sure. I’ve also just found some more stuff which is very interesting - now I just need more time to get these theories out to you all. Thanks heaps for sharing - awesome and makes it so much better. I’ve put at least 5 more Easter eggs in that video I don’t think anyone will pick up - my wife laughs because she knows how crazy it is, but it’s fun when someone notices it. The layering of the 2 scenes was done in the last video to hint at this one. Chris Houlihan was another 2 Easter eggs based on Fi and well I look forward to more. Have a great day my friend 💚💫🌟

I know this video is general on the topic of the theme of hands and not zelink (even thou is basically cannon) but when you mentioned how the urboruos lines up with link and Zelda’s hands meeting in the spiral of light the master sword creates. Before the release of totk someone translated the zoni text on the uroburos as “meeting of the lovers” now this was before release granted so it may not be 100% correct but considering that, the uroburos line up almost perfectly with that scene and link and Zelda are lovers technically I mean the Japanese version of totk has a quest where link calls Zelda “my sweet princess” it only makes sense the uroburos represent these two meeting across time

@@gamesmithsyea I also noticed something regarding the “hands and dualities” thing since it is a major theme of the game link and Zelda seem to intentionally mirror raru and Sonia hell link even gets rarus arm it doesn’t get more obvious than that. But at the very end raru and Sonia channel their powers through links raru arm. Why is this significant? Raru is the king of highrule his arm is grafted too links arm and the two former leaders of highrule lay their hands on links/rarus hand to bring back Zelda. And at the end links arm is healed. It’s kinda like raru and Sonia are using the last of their powers to help their successors link and Zelda.

Hey @wiskerfall4519 - sorry for the delayed reply. Great point, and I dare say there's more to that connection than even a glance shows. I've got more on this to cover in future theories, and more research to be done as this rabbit hole gets a lot deeper, but your perspective is bang on in my book. Aside from how that ending could symbollically "tie" back up to the single storyline, it offers a unique perspective on the outcome of the story in the wider lore and mythology. There's something signficant I've noticed in the symbology as well that has had me investigating for over 2 years now a larger narrative behind the series and where things have come from, are now, and could be going. Indeed that connection with Rauru and Link is part of that investigation, but only represents a part of the greater picture. It's perfect for a stand-alone story, as is the case in TOTK, but it makes for an even greater "WTF" moment if Nintendo are unwrapping something larger based on what I've been picking up. I don't want to get too carried away with it, and there's a lot more to put together (even then, the best scenario will be a presentation of the facts for the viewers to determine their thoughts), but if on the very slim chance I'm close to the mark, we have a very bright and interesting future for the Zelda series - moreso than we could imagine currently. The best example I can give is how Marvel blew everyones minds with the Infinity Saga when people started piecing together aspects from the first IronMan movie nearly a decade later, but on a more nuanced scale. Very cool 💚🌟

@@gamesmiths yeah I’ve kinda been thinking about the “hands” theme because there is so much symbolism packed into it. Another theme is duality there are a lot of ying and yangs too this game like there being the past and the present. But one that I find most interesting (mostly because it has too do with zelink lol) is the duality between raru and Sonya, and link and Zelda there is definitely something there. Each counterpart has the same eye color as the other. Zelda is the sage of time like Sonya was before she got murdered. And link literally carry’s a peice of raru on him. So it seems to be hinting that, link and Zelda are raru and Sonya’s successors. Hell in the memeory “Zelda and sonia” the last part of the memory is basically Zelda gushing about how link is the greatest person she has ever met. And the entire time raru and sonia act like parents wanting too meet their daughters boyfriend. Witch is definitely intentional since Zelda literally is their decedents so there is an amount of family there.

@wiskerfall4519 so not sure if you’ve seen my “Master Theory” video - but regarding eye colour … let’s just say you will appreciate the pickups there. Again, there’s more than I’ve put into videos so far, but these form part of a larger arc - and indeed the eye color for me is significant 💚💫
