These new artist or songs will never have a chance in lyrical or meaning in touching the inner feelings of life without their interpretation of what they need to sing about to get recognition to become famous and sell their souls in the process for fame.

I met her when I was 16. I went into the service. We saw each other over the years for a while. It’s been 23 years since I have seen her. I still dream once and a while of holding her hand or seeing her in a wedding dress. This is my favorite song and it is her to me. Can not listen with out tears flowing down my face. This is what Soul music is about. I am 66+ now and still feel a love for her as strong as ever. I always will as long as I have this song.

It was three piece suits and groups in the 70’s. You’d tune in the Soul Train and you see the groups impeccably dressed and doing them steps. They were iconic and we held on every word. Even tried to do a little solo act to our girlfriends while we drew close together on a dance floor. Yes as time grew the love went out of those beautiful songs replaced with strong gritty words about the inner city . Now a lot of these songs are used as the hook for some these raps songs . As the world turns . I was right there graduating in 1972 . What a time . LB November 14, 2023 Tuesday morning 4:09am

Came across your comment and I had to say something. You’re right. I’m not entirely sure what this song’ s about-as the lyrics are a little cryptic-but it wraps a peculiar type of haunting nostalgia around the listener that seems to suggest the relationship in question wasn’t entirely healthy, more like a ‘trauma bond’ or something. The relationship I’m in right now is like that. The intimacy is all but gone; all that’s left is the complacency of being around each other. We’ve just gotten used to it. Love’ s not always enough, and sometimes you have to turn the page and leave each other behind in order to grow. That lingering nostalgic longing remains, tho 😢

Heard this tune for the 1st time about 18 years ago. My computer crashed and I couldn't remember the title. I spent ages looking through lists of soul songs with love in the title. Thought I'd never find it again. Never forgot it though. Today is a happy day. To be that memorable a song after hearing once is pretty amazing.

For me, it was 1971, and I really thought I had found love on a 2 way street, I still know her after all these years. I hope she remembers back then when I met her.

A classic time in music, when love forcefully gripped the emotion. This beautiful song, certainly, amplified strong feelings from that era!

This song reminds me of the basement parties my sisters would have with the red light. I was about 7 or 8 yrs old wishing i could go down there. I told my sisters, when i get old enough i wont invite you to my party. Well, I got old and they got older and didn't want to party. lol.

I was a young girl and my big cousin would take me to the shows at the Loews Palace in DC. I would go back and show my friends the steps the next day. WOW! I miss those innocent days.
