I was 14 when I first saw Head and I thought it was the most brilliant thing I'd ever seen. It still holds up, unlike the other "head" movies from the period which are pretentious and boring. You say you were exhausted at the end. I was energized. The end was the beginning! It was a complete circle! So cool! The Monkees would never escape the box, despite the freedom promised by swimming with porpoises. Even suicide does not bring freedom. The film is a biting critique of pop culture and the entertainment industry, but it is lighthearted and fun at the same time. Unfortunately, the film could not find an audience. Monkees fans were pre-teen girls, who would not enjoy the movie. People who would enjoy the movie wouldn't see it, b/c it was a Monkees movie. At 14, I was both young enough to be in the Monkees demographic, but old enough to "get it".

The woman who danced with Davy was Toni Basil. Although they were just friends, the song Micky was about Micky Dolenz.

Heidi Fedor Toni Basil actually denied that in an interview. Here’s a link.. www.vulture.com/2012/08/vulture-investigates-what-is-toni-basils-mickey-really-about.html

The song Mickey wasn't about Micky Dolenz. It's still a very cool song and Monkees connection, though.

Ah, what a crazy film. We watched it in film studies in the 80s and I didn't understand too much of it then, LOL.

There are a lot of things that you can take from this film. A meaning however is up to the viewer.

Great review! A bit of trivia, the film only made a little over $16,000 during its brief theatre run. It has made waaayyy more since then.

and has been reissued on 1080p Blu Ray in widescreen with restored audio. It's looks way better than the DVD version. As it is meant to be seen :)

BAM! Every review you 2 do makes me want to watch whatever you're reviewing. Lol I loved the Monkeys when I was little. One of the local stations would play several episodes back to back when I was little and I would always watch them. Probably seen every episode a dozen times. I don't remember if I watched this movie or not but I sure do want to see this trippy thing now. Love the effect. That's a pretty powerful beer. Lol Trippy ; ) Woodrow -

Thanks Woodrow! Kay was also brought up on the Monkee's TV show. This film is great for any adults who were fans of the show when they were younger. This is one trippy avant garde comedy that we hope you enjoy! Cheers!

This is like one of those weird body swapping movies, but much more random haha. Loving the new branding too by the way. Cheers!

I love this movie. I remember hating it when I first saw it years ago when I used to be a fan of the Monkees tv show. Now it's swapped. I honestly like the movie better than the show as I think it holds up better.

That's one great thing about the monkees. There's something there for every age group, its a good thing to grow up with. Cheers, Mr Spectacals!

Basicly, the Monkees are trying to escape from TV land but big bad TV man has them trapped like animals, playing with them and teasing them like spoiled brat sadistic evil kid tortures an animal.

I can describe the movie for you. A bunch of guys on acid thought they should make a movie that was like an acid trip. There's your plot.
