As some of you that have seen some of my older videos know, removing coil springs from struts can be dangerous and a pain in the backside. Monroe Quick Struts are a great solution to this problem. Not only do you get a new strut, but you also get a new spring and upper mount. In essence, you renew the entire assembly as a unit. This makes strut replacement easier and safer. Not to mention they aren't that much more expensive than just a naked strut. So the next time you need to replace the struts in your vehicle, I suggest you check out Monroe Quick Struts. They might just save you a bunch of headaches.

As a tech that has easily installed over 150 quick struts on various makes and models. It is definitely preferred. I can think of maybe 6 that have needed warranty work. It's worth the extra cost for these in my opinion. After the added cost for new mounts and extra labor costs for just doing struts it's a no brainer.

They are really easy to do, and fast! I had one however which the top bearing went bad within a week. Went to the store with the car, jacked there, and in less than 10 minutes total I had the struts in my hand. They exchanged it, and 10 mins later I was back on the road. I think the hardest part was to remove the wheel (seriously). 2 big bolts behind the wheel, 3 small on the top. That's it.

The truck does not ride or handle the same (worse off) and these struts make the front end much higher. See Scotty Kilmer's video on this. I have a horror strut story to tell-Im in california, after buying a used car i knew i needed new struts all around. And of course I did not do my research. I went to "les schwab" and got the struts replaced, great , but then the next day there was a rattling from the front of the car, I took it back and the diagnosis was you need strut mounts. I said strut mounts? Didn't you replace them? They said no, only the actual shock itself. Not the mount or the spring. Long silence from me. And I got drained of a lot money. Whereas other places do what was in the video and replace the whole thing. I guess some days you just got to sit in the corner and learn from mistakes. And never go back to those guys again. I did feel like I was scammed.

Unless it's a certain Honda model, in which case you need to purchase OEM struts/springs to achieve the proper road crown pull, as most aftermarket struts/springs are universal/multi-fit applications, and don't take these things into consideration. Some Honda's don't use camber/caster adjustment, and the factory achieves pull through strut geometry.

Quicker is not always better if they have to be replaced every 70k or 80k miles. And what about a cost comparison to other high quality aftermarket shocks with a set of springs? I've had good quality shocks and springs last well over 100k miles. Does Monroe give any mileage guarantee under normal use? You may have to buy 2 sets, when 1 may have done you for the same amount of time.

I have had some bad experiences with Monroe Quick struts within two years time I have installed two sets of Monroe Quick struts on my friends 2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The struts are still good but the problem is is that Springs cannot hold the weight of the car. The car handle so much better with the old blown and leaking struts. This time I'm looking into buying some new Springs and keep the struts because they're only a year old. Replacing it with OEM Springs maybe the best way to go but would probably be the most expensive why. Who makes a good aftermarket spring that will hold up to time?

The original is the best...aftermarket is garbage . Original struts is the best you can put in your car . If you check the original spring is very slim ...and the aftermarket is thicker , that is the problem...thicker spring ..and the brakes is not working like the original..you have to be careful . Take care ./.

I did a mistake because i did not use quick strut. I changed only the chocks. Since Its dangerous job, i went to mechanic to decompress the strut to put the new chocks Monroe. I put the strut with new chocks, there is still clunking and noise on the left side and my steering was loose, I went to mechanic, they told me you should buy quick strut because it has all components because maybe my strut mounting is starting to wear or the coil spring is a bit sagging. So anyway quick strut is easiest safest saving money and you dont have to say after you put your strut which is not an easy job takes hours to put them that something is miss. Now i have to buy quick one so no headeache.

This doesn’t allow to find position to be able to bring out of the wheel well. Advice: If you are going to keep the car BUY NAME BRAND COMPONENTS! Cheap imported from China parts are just that CHEAP. You will have issues with ride quality and component failure with cheap parts. Quick Struts can be a time saving deal, but you must consider that there's more to making a spring than just coiling up some steel rod. The alloy of the steel, how it's tempered and the diameter of the spring's metal round stock all have a lot to do with how your car will ride and if it rides safely. Same with the valving and components of the strut's hydraulic components. By just looking at a strut the average person has no idea of the complexity involved, but you can depend on the fact that a company that cares will have a good reputation.

I concur totally......I got into an argument with a spring compressor once.....ONCE!!! After that I determined that the extra cost of the QSA is offset by reduced labor and potentially reduced cost of your medical deductible. Either but a QSA or take to a shop with a professional hydraulic spring compressor. The twist ones are too easy to get confused and lose count. The springs have to be compressor EVENLY as in five turns one side five turns the other and back and forth......too much chance of a 5-5,5-5,5-6,5-5,5-7, 1,2,3,4?5,17...1,2,3,4,5,6....you get the idea Hydraulic spring compressors that a modern shop SHOULD have have more safety features either safety cage or a set point to allow even compression!

Yes it may be more expensive and all that jazz, but there is that moment when you have changed a couple of those struts and all the rest is still the original equipment. Many miles have passed, and replacing the other stuff is almost as important as the strut itself, then you will be much better off buying the quick strut, since everything together will come cheaper then when you go buy it as separate parts. Then the next time you just change the strut on an almost new configuration and you drive happily ever after.

It depends on the vehicle and how the suspension is set up. If your particular vehicle has camber adjustments, then yes you should get an alignment. But a decent amount of vehicles don't have a factory camber adjustment. Removing a strut assembly usually won't effect toe, the steering knuckle is fixed in place by control arms, tie rods, and axle nut( at least on fwd cars). A new strut assembly for sure can effect camber though. Getting an alignment isn't necessarily a bad idea, but might not be needed. Also depends how much you care about the tires you currently have.

I'd say don't use the impact gun with the spring compressors. I always use manual tools and haven't had any incident so far. I think the speed of the gun is too fast to do it safely, while with manual tools you can realize of any misalignment and correct the position of the tools before anything happen.

The problem is that vehicle manufacturers have pretty much tweaked out the oem shocks and springs to get the handling exactly like they wanted it. When you start throwing in aftermarket suspension parts you change your vehicle dynamics, handling, and load capacity. While they say they are 'oem' equivalent, all the strut manufacturers like to change things subtle or not. My experience with Monroe quick struts is that they make your vehicle feel like a boat floating in the ocean, and they don't last as long as the oem's. I mean if you just have to get a car going and you can't get a spring compressor or an air tool to remove the nut then they will do the job but they aren't a preferred way to go for me.

Peter Carlson Its a 20 year old car dude. I would understand if its 2010s but anything before that, you should be fine even with your concerns. Although, I would not get these struts in particular, there are way better ones, and I feel like Eric is just blowing this spring issue out of proportion.. Newer screwon compressors come with locks that stop them from sliding and whatever else, and also springs tend to last way longer than struts.
@kg4boj

Kush P car makers have been tweaking and tuning their suspensions for a long time. Changing to aftermarket springs and or struts will effect handling. It just so happens Monroe's sensatrack or whatever the hell they call it sucks, it's something like a bypass valve that opens a wider orifice for bumps that induce more than a certain amount of pressure in the shock causing it to compress with less energy putting the load on the spring. In theory this should work great, but in practice it means your car will now wobble when you hit potholes and when you corner it will feel like you removed the cars sway bars, don't get me wrong. Monroe makes decent inexpensive shocks n struts, but their pre fab drop in replacement quick struts with this crazy feature they have really make them suck.

Peter Carlson I agree with your assessment fully. Kush P You have great comments too. If you're using it as a money saving option when your suspension is cupping your tires, but you can't afford both new tires and a nice suspension components then it'll get you by. There are far better options for little more money, but Monroe is often the in stock cheaper option versus waiting on an awesome internet deal. Monroe does have OE quality or even better, but for my primary car they only have the "economy" aka junk option. AutoZone used to have Monroe available like crazy. They switched to a better brand that I hear a lot of good from. ..can't remember the name. Good for having the parts quickly. I'll take Moog from online any day. I hear fairly equal from KYB, but I have no personal experience. A hear a little bad on all of my recommendations, but mostly good.

These are ideal for home mechanics for safety and convenience but as a professional unless you could justify the extra cost to the customer, they are a non starter. For most customers cost is everything, struts and springs are a prime example, if the mot fail sheet says that the n/s/f shock is leaking in 80% of cases only the n/s/f shock will be replaced even though we always try to sell shocks as a pair. Although these struts will save on labour and improve reliability of the strut assembly because all the components are new but it's hard to up sell a pair of struts especially if only shocks need replacing or a spring broken, however if multiple components need replacing in becomes a more attractive option.

Yes. A mechanic put a set of these on the 2000 Focus I had a few years ago. Granted, the old Ford ones (which were not spectacular) were worn out anyway. The one thing I noticed was the ride height was higher. It did improve the ride though and it did feel different than the OEM ones. Handling was effected as well but it was not bad though. The car handled well enough. The only thing i am not sure about is how long they would really last. I didn't have the car too much longer after that.

Spring compressors scare the hell out of me. I will go to great lengths to avoid using them. If it costs me a few extra bucks to get the whole assembly vs. buying a separate strut and needing to use a spring-compressor? I'll go with buying the whole assembly any day! Better than getting myself injured or killed when a spring-compressor fails.

Even the professional, wall mounted ones' n can injure you. With the rental kind, always clamp a vice grip with a shop towel to the LOWER part, next to the compressors jaws to prevent the jaws from walking UP the coil spring. See what happened? Watch it again.

I got 4 for a 2000 Corolla that I bought new (275K miles ago !) and a local mechanic has installed them. Some things are a one-time job and why go through all that work and some danger when a skilled mechanic can do it fast ? These are 'knuckle-busting' work and you need a lift and air wrench and skills and a method. NOT a DIY project.... pay a mechanic for this one-time job ! Monroe is a very old brand and a 'quick-strut' from Monroe is affordable and will be well-engineered.

I love the QuickStruts and I've used them on SO many different vehicles. ONLY downside I've found is that they're a one-size-fits-all sorta thing... for example, if a car model offered different suspension stiffnesses (luxury, sport, etc) and they only offer one spring rate QuickStrut.
