Films I love - Mad Max 2 (1981) Mad Mad 2 or The Road Warrior (as referred to in North America) is a beast of a film. The premise is simple and unoriginal, a dystopian world where fuel is precious and survivors are divided into sparse tribal gangs where lawlessness is rampant. Enter the mythological (and in this case with a name) hero or anti-hero.... Where the film literally obliterates all other action films is in it’s pure kinetic fury. The semi-mechanised villains are genuinely abhorrent and therefore the threat is real on the opposing community who are desperately clinging onto any fragments of civility. The visceral action sequences, expertly crafted by George Miller are an ode to dirt coated twisted metal, motion, engine revs and gasoline. Gibson thrives a the man with a name, clad in black leather with blue eyes and armed to the hilt. His feral charm further elevates the film as the angel faced grim reaper who finds himself a saviour. Hugely influential, never bettered, this is a divine slice of fuel powered rage!

Yep agree. First film is great but very raw especially when viewed today. 2 is a real step up. 3 had potential but decided to go the PG route to get a wider audience and really didn't work. The kids in latter half are the Mad Max version of Ewoks but way less cute..

Good calls on "Hello Mary Lou: Prom Night II," "Hellbound: Hellraiser II" and "Ouija: Origins of Evil." Along the lines of the latter, "Annabelle: Creation" is definitely better than the first one. "Puppet Master III: Toulon's Revenge" is my fav of that series. The origins of Blade and Leech Woman are hella rad. Also, it's not in the genres we're talking about, but "The Bourne Ultimatum" friggin' rules.

Re-watched The Punisher (1989) earlier this week. With a few (relatively minor) changes -- it could've been better. Put the damn skull logo on his chest and things immediately improve. Put Frank's lair a warehouse vs. the sewer (huh?). And give him his "battle van" vs. a motorcycle. They really wanted those shots of Dolph riding a Harley in a giant sewer pipe. Why studios often insist on making unnecessary changes when it brings comic book characters to the big screen -- it's baffling. And Louis Gossett, Jr. wears some GIGANTIC 80s jackets in The Punisher. It's like he raided David Byrne's closet.

This is off-topic, but I'm curious. Did you guys happen to see Ti West's latest movie ‘X’ already? If yes, did you enjoy it? I watched it yesterday and I didn't have that much fun at a horror movie for a long time. The cast, plot, gore and music are so good. And unlike with so many other modern slasher movies, I found very little of the plot predictable. The tension was kept throughout the movie and there was almost a Hitchcockian suspense until the first kill. Great stuff!

I saw "X" recently in the theater. I thought it was good, but to me, it seemed to borrow a bit too heavily from Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Eaten Alive and Motel Hell. Had I not seen those movies, I would have enjoyed "X" more.
@beetlebum7760
@beetlebum7760 2 жыл бұрын
@@chrisalo2989 I'm glad then I've never seen Eaten Alive and Motel Hell :-) But there's no denying the (I guess highly intended) influence of TCM on X, the director would probably be the last person to deny that. I was almost waiting for a murderous relative of the older couple to show up. And now that I'm reading the Wiki article on Eaten Alive, I get where the crocodile scenes in X might come from. But that first crocodile scene was so brilliantly shot and intense, as were most scenes in this movie. What I found quite original and inventive about X was the fusion of horror and porn movies, especially the parallel cuts between the movie and the movie within the movie.

Phantasm 2 was actually very nicely done with the dead grandfather scene in his wife’s bed and the other one that I loved was The Devil’s Rejects something more so into the House Of 1000 corpses sequel and 🪦 to Sid Haig of the blaxploitation genre which a lot more people than not had no idea 🤷‍♂️ this man who I first saw on an early episode of Gunsmoke with James Arness obviously 🙄 of The Thing (from another world!), but my top favorite sequel even if it’s supposed to be on the same night:Halloween 2 @‘ 81 as Carpenter was busy with Jamie Lee on The Fog as well herself doing 4 at the same time with Prom Night; Terror Train and trying to keep her sanity whilst complaining those flicks. Although he’s NEVER going to say anything about ripping off Dario Argento for almost his entire career with his camera angles and lighting styles? I haven’t been able to forgive the guy and I put him on the same list of directors who steal that as they’ve got the ideas off the other better ones ala DePalma’s Hitchcock thefts in every single flick here ever done ☑️ Go back and watch kids Cuz it’s just TRUE! Yes I’m sorry, but whenever I’m not hearing anything about giving credit where credit is due for some of these scenarios that were already done and so much better than the director stealing lock, stock & barrel? No hun. sorry, Hellboy II is a solid fun film (bordering on silly at times), but in my perspective does not usurp the original, which was clearly a labor o' love......Chris - i can't tell if that Slaughtered Lamb art is a patch or not, but if it is where in the F did you find that - i HAVE to have that. my searches have yielded some pretty poor efforts, nothing to compare to the quality o' the one on your hoodie......Bill & Ted II - hey, Death is a major character (and it's technically sci-fi)......Road Warrior (which because o' where i grew up i saw first, and i guess because o' the popularity they brought in Mad Max shortly afterwards)......i LOVE Alien II - but it does not surpass the original for me, they are just different takes on a brilliant theme...

Sorry, it's a full American Werewolf in London hoodie, with designs on the front, back and the sleeves. I bought it at a convention, but there might be a link somewhere on line for it.

@@chrisalo2989 ...cheers. if it's out there i'll find it ! there are actually patches that i found - but they are all quite crap in comparison. the art on your hoodie is superb. i have an old Monty Python hoodie that could use a few friends. all my best to you. i don't always agree with you - but i always love hearing how you phrase it Chris !

Annabelle Creation is indeed terrific, I think it's a quite brilliant ghost/haunted house film and very likely the best entry in the series.

ALIENS over ALIEN for me...the 3rd & 4th installments, though, were almost bad enuff the ruin the 1st two films. Kinda like how Starship practically destroyed the Airplane's legacy. :-p

I really have to disagree with you guys on Star trek the motion picture. I loved that film, it's the most intellectual of those movies. Also its visually stunning and trippy. I notice new things every time I watch it. The soundtrack is just amazing. It has it's usual Star trek themes of course, but it's very haunting and intense mostly. I love that movie. Its not boring at all. I love that movie and for the life of me, I just don't understand why all of you hate it so much. Maybe one day you will watch it with a different frame of mind and have a different opinion.

@@JIF882 I'm sorry to hear that. I think the first film was geared to an older audience. Where the latter films were aimed at a much younger audience, mainly young boys. They certainly had a more comic book type of feel to them.

I gotta agree with Jamie that the dark knight is overrated. I recently rewatched and I don't think it holds up. The Joker portrayal is obviously incredible, I even like the Harvey Dent portrayal. But take them out... It's meh

Love Chris Alo, but Phantasm II is not better than Phantasm, & Aliens is not better than Alien. Also, Friday the 13th--The Final Chapter sucks. Jason Lives is the best. Friday the 13th 3D is better than all the other Fridays, other than part 6--Jason Lives.
