my theory about everett is that when virginia saw him the first time, he wasnt actually a grown man and was rather the middle stage between a stretched baby and a fully fleshed out tree man, he was actually just a young boy that had been stretched out to appear taller and to a young girl she couldnt tell the difference between an inhumanly tall young child and a grown man

the first cornerfolk video is also an example of humans getting hurt by meddling in things they shouldn't. The cornerfolk weren't hostile, they didn't cause any harm. They just relaxed in the corners of his home when he weren't there, or jumped quickly through corners when he was. It wasn't until he decided to go into the cornerworld then he got hurt. The cornerfolk and the cornerworld aren't evil, they just exist, and the cornerworld wasn't suited for a human so he got hurt.

"Grief is just love with no where to go" but Alex put his love into this series and therefore received love. It's just a small part of healing because filling the spot a loved one left empty is impossible. But he re-directed the adoration for his father and made something wonderful which in turn gave many of us joy. Even if we only consume it through Wendi and his passion for MM. His father's love keeps on giving.

My theory is that time is relative in Wonderland. Since the kids in the beginning of Virgina's story touched the tree at the same time, the lives that were traded were equal, so both kids crossed over without consequences. And when Virginia was older, both her and her other self touched the tree, but the clone wasn't pregnant. So the trade wasn't equal, meaning Everett was lost in Wonderland, with no life to be traded for his. The same could be said for Washington, who chopped at the tree, but it's possible his other self didn't, meaning he was lost in Wonderland, with nothing to trade

hard agree, the Angel specifically hit me harder than the other two though like... these people, having been through basically hell due to the worst kind of apathy and disregard for the lives of one's subordinates, make the conscious choice not to tar all of humanity with the same brush, to use their newfound place in the universe and act as a protector of those who cannot protect themselves, as the angel themselves once could not. idk, maybe that's me being melodramatic. meaningful to me, though.

About Eunice-remember that the angel's ashes can cause a shift as small as a decision, with the decision itself having massive fallout and affects in some way shape or form. Yes! Comic books do that a lot too with peoples' names. Not all of them, but a lot of alter-egos and supporting character have alliterative names. I'm sure Alex is a comic fan to some degree based on the images he uses for some of the characters in his series.

@@pyropulseIXXI that’s the whole reason Alex took it down in the first place. You can watch around 1:10:00 again for an explanation of why he did stuff the way he did and even why he decided to put it back up. There’s a tumblr post somewhere about us being an amalgamation of all the people we have known in our life. I still write like a girl I knew in elementary school even though I haven’t seen her in 20 years. Pieces of people live on in us and I believe that’s what Alex’s message was supposed to be. I got such a strange feeling when Wendigoon spoke about Alex’s father (I hope he rests in peace). Specifically to when Alex decided to remove the House in the Ocean series and Wendigoon expresses that the thing you loved just isn’t there anymore to interact with, only a memory. And myself who hasn’t seen the series and hearing that something existed without knowing that it did evoked a weird feeling in my heart that’s hard to express because it reminded me of my own father who I’ve never met. In a weird way it is kinda moving tho and now I definitely want to watch that series

Just a quick point that it appears that the tree in the animation of Washington is an apple tree, not a cherry tree. Which aligns with Virginia in Wonderland, where Rockefeller quizzes the kids on American history. Based on Virginia’s drawings, he tells the kids that Washington cut down an apple tree, while the kids tell him it was a cherry tree. Just a small but notable detail

I haven't finished the episode yet, but I just realized that in Virginia's story, she talked about how the people who tried to climb the Special Trees just before they flash end up *stretched across the Trees.* What if the reason why George Washington ended up transforming is that instead of normally moving around Wonderland he tried to climb a Special Tree, got stretched across the Trees, and by the time he got out of Wonderland he ended up The Horned Serpent? Virginia said it felt like 500 years to her, and she saw him (or at least people suffering the same fate), so he probably had plenty of time to stretch that much.

I think the "Climbers" that Virginia mentions are a good explanation for why she was unaffected. The climber's bodys become burnt and stretched out. George Washington probably climbed a tree while in wonderland which is why his body now resembles a black serpent, he's been burnt and stretched. A similar thing could've potentially happened to Everett (though he was a baby so I do not know how good his climbing skills would be), which why he turned into a tree creature but Virginia didn't, Virgina stayed away from the trees. Fantastic video btw!!

I watched this whole video (and most of the FAITH: the unholy trinity video) in pretty much one sitting and now I can’t wait to watch the original video series, thanks wendigoon for your great storytelling and for introducing us to another incredible creator. Hats off to Mr. Manticore for his lifelong dedication to some of the most unique storytelling and universe building that I’ve ever seen; a mix of conspiracy, absurdity and cosmic horror with some beautiful personal touches that gets under your skin and sticks with you. While watching this video something was knocked loose in my memories and I remembered the name of a cosmic horror book trilogy that has haunted me since I was very young: the silver sequence (silver child, silver city and silver world) by British author Cliff McNish. The scene of the martian horned serpent barreling through space towards earth that can only stopped by tragic figures that have been mutated by forces beyond their comprehension particularly reminds me of this series and I wonder if the author took inspiration from it. I can find almost no content about these books online and I sometimes feel like I’m the only one who’s ever heard of them but they made an impact on me like this video has and made me love cosmic horror. Has anyone else read these books or made this connection?

A couple theories I have (I am not a part of the community, new to this series as of yesterday): Washington Wanderer is Virginia. The caption at the beginning of S3 “A new song began on February 22”. The Washington Monument tree plays music. Everett mentions Virginia‘s copy singing to him in wonderland. She also points to the special tree in Everett’s story and the Wanderer is pointing down to the special tree in the Monument. Cthonaut A is Alex (effectively “God” of the story as its author) Cthonaut C is possibly a representation of his (Alex’s) dad. He becomes a father figure to Everett and eventually dies.

I'm a writer who lost her father going on 14 years ago. I'm an only child and a daddy's girl so this hit home very hard for me and I had to come down here and say Alex has the strength a lot don't. I've struggled in my writing ever since my dad died, and it's what I want to do for a living. Alex made something incredible, as absurdist and satirical as it is, and should be proud of his work and the strength it took to make it as he dealt with his grief.

Sorry for your loss, OP. I have not had to deal with that yet (though he clearly isn't getting any younger). But you and Wendigoon's talk about fathers' senses of humor reminds me of a personal anecdote that I feel warrants repeating here. My dad made a lot of handicrafts when he was younger. One of these was a book he bound himself (I believe he made it while he was in high school). Really fancy, burgundy fabric cover, embossed gold lettering, the works. What's the title and subject of that book you ask? *_"Dr. Depravity's Collection of Pornogaphic Childrens Stories."_* Note the subtle and extremely deliberate spelling and punctuation errors. It definitely caused me to do a double-take when I saw it on our bookshelf when I was old enough to have a basic grasp of what pornography actually was, at least enough to know that stuff was off limits to me. (Granted, this was before I was actually exposed to porn myself.) I still remember incredulously taking the book off the shelf and opening it, wondering what such a book was doing in our clean-cut Christian household... *...All the pages were blank.* Then I reread the title and noticed "pornographic" was misspelled. Subsequent questioning found my own dad had made it as a personal joke... ...I come from a long tradition of weirdos, *and I couldn't be prouder.* Sadly, my younger brother has already called "dibs" for who gets said book in our father's will. Whichever one of us ultimately gets it, I sincerely hope it becomes a family heirloom.

Imeadiately when you started describing the cornerfolk I was reminded of a short story written and published in the early 1900s by Frank Belknap Long called "Hounds of Tindalos" essentially (if I remember corectly) one of the main characters friends attempts to enter/peer into a sort of negative or unclean reality that exists seperate to ours, and when he does, these, indescribable eldritch creatures described as hounds sense him and catch his sent. These beings will relentlessly hunt those they mark, and they can cross from the unclean reality and into ours through corners or angles of any kind. So, this unfortunate fellow, rightfully believing hes being hunted (though appearing mad to everyone else) starts plastering up his entire room to try and make the interior completely sphereical. Probably not related but I just thought it was a cool comparison

The story of Alex’s father is really moving and I’m glad he has shared that information. My dad died in 2016 when I was in my early 20s. Missing him never stopped, and I hated the erosion of time on my memories and feeling like they were grains of sand that slipped through my fingers no matter how hard I tried to hold on. And then my son was born. He shares several physical attributes of my dad like a cleft chin, but also constantly moves his feet and rubs them together like a cricket as a self-soothing technique, something my dad did all the time. He truly isn’t gone, pieces of him live on through my son. It gives me great comfort.

The quote Grief Can Make You A Monster is interesting to me. Because we all know Alex lost his father and that grief resulted into him doing things to the series that reflected that sadness he felt. And when he had that beautiful moment in either season two or season three with the quote that made Wendi get teary eyed, I feel like using that quote resulted into him fueling the flames into making this series even more chaotic and insane with destroying an entire universe (Deanverse) which makes the culprit a monster for wiping an entire existence away, but finding a way to somehow reform it (Cliftverse) changes the entire thing while still keeping the past a current issue. So...grief made Alex the monster to carry on with the series, destroy an entire existence, bring it back, and continue to live off of the creative accomplishment he had. So yeah. Alex is a fucking genius!

The closest thing I can compare Monument Mythos to in relation to the whole Analog Horror genre is that the Monument Mythos is the Jojo's Bizarre Adventure of Analog Horror. Sure it's weird and confusing. Some plot threads seemingly go nowhere. You can kinda see where it's being rushed. But the adventure itself is always worth taking. Mister Manticore and the team are so sincere and genuine in how they puts such raw emotions into these works of art. It's like Araki just putting whatever he's interested or intrigued of at the time. I haven't seen this kind of genuine emotion in any other analog horror series. I will always consider MM to be my favourite analog horror, or even unfiction project, of all time.
