What a shame that short line did not make it. Transload?

I'm not a train aficionado (though my grandson loved them when he was younger), but this sure brought back a lot of memories of growing up in Independence back in the 60's and 70's, and I have to say, I would much rather get "stuck" waiting for a train to pass through those rural towns than to get stuck in traffic here in Seattle. Thanks for the great video!

Thank you!! I agree; train delay is more fun! (I’ve turned around to be delayed by a train!)

Shocked to see a trestle without a derail guard.

Yes, I don’t know why they don’t use them, or if there ever was, but I suppose the expense is just a bridge too far! ;)

William, I hope dearly you have had opportunities to write down some of your memories and experiences from your time working the railroad! If not, I would happily meet and listen to (record) any and all stories you have to get them preserved. Those are very valuable indeed! Thank you for your comments Sir!

Thank you so much for the response! What a compliment! I would absolutely love to share! Right now I’m in hey care home and have some issues that make it really hard for me to talk! After I am able to overcome some of these problems, I would love to connect with you

That heavyweight car is SPMW # 7118. It is owned by George Lavacot, crew member on the SP 4449, owner of Lavacot Locomotive Works (LLW), and an employee of the Albany and Eastern Railroad Company (AERC) in Lebanon, Oregon. SPMW # 7118 has been donated to the AERC by George Lavacot. It will be rebuilt and restored to operational condition, including receiving back it's original identity as SP # 7118 for use on the Santiam Excursion Trains that run over the AERC line.

Great info Stuart! Thank you. I wondered if it would ever ride again! That whole place was very unusual. I’m really glad it’s still there; and I hope I can get a video of when it gets moved too!

The V&S building was most recently the home of Santa Maria Valley 205, the steam locomotive now in Lebanon, OR on the Albany and Eastern. There should still be a diesel locomotive inside the building.

Thank you! I actually didn’t realize this was its home before now. Very interesting! 🙏🏻👍👍

Well done! Does this run Albany to McMinnville and back? Is there any word on the Sherwood trestle that burned or on any restoration and use of that part of the line?
@pacificrailproductions5281 Жыл бұрын
It runs Whiteson to Albany and back. North of McMinnville the line is still out of commission. I don’t think there are plans to change anything right now. I haven’t heard much. I think if the newberg paper mill hadn’t closed, they would probably be more inclined to reopen that section of track.

I take it the train was pretty late on this day..?
@pacificrailproductions5281 Жыл бұрын
It may have been a few hours late; I really can’t say for sure. I don’t know what time they go on duty, but I’m betting it’s either 2300-midnight. This day was probably a real long shift.
