Sometimes songs don't have hidden meanings. Some aren't abstract at all. The words of this song are directly telling you what they mean. "I wonder where you are, I wonder if you think about me..." is telling you this is about a long lost love, in which the narrator is reminiscing about.

It isn't just that simple though. This was the love he had just before he found his path into his music. Also, the song is mostly focused on the woman and her knowing of his success.

This song brings up our own strong feelings about lost love and never resolved questions about what might have been and roads not taken. It's lead guitarist and singer Justin Hayward thinking of a long ago love in the mid 60s as he was going on to world acclaim with the fantastic Moody Blues. It shows that his lost love still feels for him as well, as they both think back on the mid and later 60s. Now, she's moved on and had a family, and he has also, but they amazingly see each other again and still have feelings for each other. But it cannot be. A great song and a great storytelling video.

The Moody Blues are one of my all-time favorites. Days of Future Past and To Our Childrens, Childrens, Children are two of the most amazing albums ever produced. Ride My See-Saw, Forever Afternoon (Tuesday?), Nights in White Satin, The Voice, The Other Side of Life are all great songs by them. Such incredible orchestration in their music.

I would put the album InSearchOfTheLostCord in the same category with the above 2, making it a trifecta! The songs from those 3 lps would make the best MoodyBlues reactions, IMO! The featured song seems relatively bland to me, compared to the music on the best 3 lps (from their classic period)...

A music video for "Your Wildest Dreams" was produced and was directed by Brian Grant. It depicts Hayward and an unnamed woman throughout his career, showing how their relationship drifted apart as the band's success grew. Both are shown moving on while also wondering about each other and what might have been throughout the years, culminating her attending one of their performances. She tries to meet him backstage but is unsuccessful, as Hayward is ushered away before they can reunite. This storyline would later be continued in the music video for "I Know You're Out There Somewhere". Wikipedia.

This song is simply about "the one the got away". The lyrics are straight-forward. The video depicts the young lady having moved on, got a family, the singer has gone on with big success. But neither never truly let go completely. When she heard his voice on the record, her memories and emotions flooded back and she had to go see him one more time.
@patticrichton1135 Жыл бұрын
also when it goes black and white it shows them in the mid '60s when the band was just local and practicing in one of the member's homes. When it goes back to color it is showing them currently after the Moody Blues became famous which ultimately ended their relationship (which happened a lot when groups or singers became famous. They lost their home town loves before they became famous. But they still never lost their love for each other. She is now married with kids, but still thinks of him, and he does of her. I love this video, because it goes back to the mid '60s when I was a teen, and the fashion, makeup and hairstyles they show in that black and white part, are so on point. I LOVE the Moody Blues

"Nights In White Satin" is the biggest hit and signature song for The Moody Blues, spending two weeks at #2 on the Billboard Hot 100, beginning November 4, 1972. It's another example of a "lost #1 hit," being kept out by another classic, "I Can See Clearly Now" by Johnny Nash, which spent four weeks at #1, also beginning November 4, 1972. How is this relevant to "Your Wildest Dreams"? Simple: "Your Wildest Dreams" was the biggest hit by The Moody Blues since "Nights In White Satin." From 1973-1983, The Moody Blues had five Top 40 hits, but the highest any of them peaked on the Hot 100 was #12, by both "I'm Just A Singer (In A Rock And Roll Band)" and "Gemini Dream." By the mid-1980s, it seemed as though The Moody Blues were destined to become a "gold" act on AOR (Album-Oriented Rock, a.k.a. Album Rock or Classic Rock) radio stations, but then came "Your Wildest Dreams" as a surprise Top 10 hit and an exclamation point near the end of their pop music careers, peaking at #9 on the Hot 100 on July 12, 1986. "Your Wildest Dreams" is a very dreamy and bittersweet song, tinged with sadness, longing and regret. It always gets me "right in the feels," as people younger than me like to say these days.
@garrymoore2161 Жыл бұрын
Indeed, this pretty straight forward. Two young people are in love. One has a garage band that begins to take off. Next thing you know, he is on the road and heading toward stardom-- but he left her behind. Now his famous band is scheduled back to his hometown and he starts thinking about her. He wonders where she is and if she ever thinks about him. In the video, she buys a ticket and goes to his concert thinking he has forgotten him. From the stage to the crowd, they make eye contact. The song should have had afoolehp to tell if they got back together.

Besides loving the Moodies in general, I always liked this video. The song was released in 1986 after the group's personnel had been together for 20 years. From 1967 to 1972, they had six best selling albums and the first, Days of Future Passed, was groundbreaking, included a symphony orchestra, and was at the top of the charts several times. It was the start of what is called Progressive Rock. During those years, they sometimes had more than one album at the top of the charts. By the 80's they were producing a more conventional Top 40 sound like this one They continued touring for many years.

A common device in movies: how do you tell the difference between a present scene and a scene from the past. Change the look! In this song, Black and white is the past. Color is the present. The main characters - same blond guy - much younger in the past and in black and white. The band in black and white is the same band when they were much younger and just getting started. And like all driven people, he had to make a choice between his dreams of success as a musician, and his love of a girl. In this case, the band dream won. She didn't want that life. But, now that he is much older and has all the success he ever wanted, he starts reminiscing about the girl. I think this happens a lot with musicians. There are SO many songs about it!!

They didn't break up. It's about lost opportunity. When the band first formed when they were kids, she was the GF of the then-lead singer, while the guy who cared for her was the guitarist. As time went on, the then-leader left the band for other pursuits but she stayed with him while the band grew and became more successful. He even gave her a record the band released as, what he thought would be a gift of nostalgia. But she kept playing even after they married and had kids because she realized she didn't stay with the guy who truly cared about her. She felt trapped in a lifestyle she hated. But when she got the chance to see him again in hopes of making up for a poor decision she made in her youth, they weren't able to connect even though he still thought about her even as he became a star. It's a story of regret for taking a path that did not lead to happiness and not getting a second chance.
