I'm currently contemplating getting a second werkstatt for my setup, been using my first one as a secondary kick drum lately, but it works brilliantly as a mono bass synth as well, highly recommend getting one, especially if you're trying to get into modular.

Great video, and great sounds. The Werkstatt is a really special little synth, it's a shame it was discontinued. I love mine dearly.

Crazy what you can pull out of that little monster. Great job, man.

I bought mine knowing that the only CV generator I had was a Keystep. I ran the Werkstatt with cv, another synth with MIDI.they seemed to play well together. My thoughts in getting it were to get an intro to modular without buying a cubic meter of patch cables, plus, Moog! Eventually I want to get a single channel MIDI to CV converter (1v/octave plus gate) . (Insert your recomendation here). Your next video on this might show various patches.
@GabeMillerMusic2 жыл бұрын
I definitely want to pair it with some midi stuff in the future and explore more patching.

I got a Korg SQ-1 and hooked the Werkstatt to it. It works great for my MIDI to CV converter. Just FYI.
@markmiller29492 жыл бұрын
Fun video. Arturia’s Microfreak also has cv and gate out, although, for your use case the MPC One makes a lot of sense.
@Thomasabraser2 жыл бұрын
Good work as usual Gabe! Thanks. But the Werkstatt is no for me because it seems to not be very flexible. When you tweaked it, it remained still the same basic sound. Maybe with patching it it would be different.

I have 3 of these. Good value in a eurorack setup, but maybe not the first moog you should get. A used Minitaur only costs twice as much, is way more practical, and gets you those moog basses you are really after. (werkstatt just doesn't cut it) Sirin obvs better but not worth twice the price of a Minitaur.

I love mine. Moog for a bargain price! I pair it with a Korg SQ-1.

You've got some patience, Gabe; I would've had a nervous breakdown trying to assemble that thing.

I picked one of these up about six months ago, when they dropped in price to around $160 from the original $200+.. Great sound but pretty limited as-is, even being kind of semi-modular. It's worth noting that it was designed to be "hackable" and circuit-bendable, hence the DIY kit format.

"Werkstatt" is a german word meaning workshop. (in the sense of a room, not an activity) You pronounce the e in "Werkstatt" like the e in "hello" and the s in "Werkstatt" very similar to the sh in "shop". So phoneticly it's "vɛrkˌʃtat" Seems like a neat little device, but nothing I'd pick up at the moment. A neat little instrument and quite interesting to build but that's about it, nothing that is massively exciting to me. But I wouldn't be surprised if you could make some neat songs on this ^^

Awesome video! I recently got a Werkstatt to modulate with my Neutron and your video would’ve been so helpful when I was trying to figure out how to get it to work with the MPC One! Jorb ended up helping me get it sorted! Anyway have you had any problems with the octaves scaling correctly on your Werkstatt. Have you played it with other instruments and have it keep in tune properly?
@GabeMillerMusic2 жыл бұрын
I still need to try it with other instruments, but so far it seemed to stay in tune fine.

Here's an idea, Loosed the circuit board a bit so it can, ever so slightly be repositioned when you temporarily place the cover and see that everything fits nicely. Then carefully remove the cover, being careful not to move the correctly positioned circuit board. Once cover is removed tighten to circuit board at it's final resting position. Place cover back on with no effort and tighten it down. Bottom line is, again, you were too soon to tighten the circuit board. ;-)

Which drum samples are these? Are they from the sample pack?

These specific ones came from a pack by Oversampled that I've been playing around with lately.

FYI glide only works on the built-in keyboard. I'm sure there is a work around in the sequencer cv mode, just never look for it myself.

Hi Gabe, have you Seen the News to the Sonicware Smpltrek? My GAS is on Fire and i am wondering if you are also interested in this cute little Device?
@SebastianSnoeck3 ай бұрын
in a way it is no good to set freq tune to minimum ... you should tune it to for exemple la at 440 hz .... except if you only want to record this moog in layers .... guess what will happen if you put another sound of another synth ?
@SebastianSnoeck3 ай бұрын
that is also the reason why on the minimoog you have switch to put a sinus of la at 440 hz to tune it ...

To be honest, the situation began to strain me that the same synthesizer models on the market, the same grooveboxes, the same Reviews on them and the monotony of music that everyone repeats one after another. What serious devices were made from 1995-2010, and now it’s getting worse and worse, or good devices cost space money. It is true!
@modernmusician33462 жыл бұрын
Just get into the studio and make music man. KZbin only started in 2005. Don't let this new social media era distract you from the real purpose. These product reviews are just tools to prevent the consumer from getting screwed in the market. The creators making a little change on the side is fair to compensate them for their time, but gotta get back to the music at the end of the day man. A Sampler/ Sequencer A Synth That's all you need anyway man. The music comes from within.
@AlekseiDroganov2 жыл бұрын
@@modernmusician3346 Thank you very much for your kind words. It has something to think about, of course. I just increasingly began to adequately understand how much the devices of that time were made for real in order to make high-quality music, so everything for our days is made like toys, to entertain us ourselves. 🎹👈 And of course stop at nothing to make music! 👍

"verkshtatt", any TTS engine would have shown how it's pronounced instead of just doing "I think that's how it's pronounced" :)
