I have said it before, and I will say it again; your obvious enjoyment in what you are doing is contagious - I just can't help but smile throughout - great fun, my friend! The bowl is also a fun idea and your result is just brilliant - I love it, and Yes, I will have to have a go at it myself, and Yes, I will send a photo to you. PS The mug is in use most days, although you are still 'banished' to the workshop 🙂

🤣🤣🤣 Banished 🤣🤣🤣 You should see some of the stuff I have to edit out! For example, writing the B on the bottom of the blanks ‘B for boobi….. always on my mind, but B for bottom, newly as bad’ I had to take all that out, otherwise someone would have been in my case! 🤣🤣🤣

Hazzah Ray! Shropshire end of this week and weekend Newcastle end of January for work thing, and September for the Great North Run (bit nervous about that one - not done it before and there’s hills up there! Lakes end of Sept for some fell walking with Lenore. This is the most inspired I've been to try a particular project than I have been in a long time!! Really beautiful work good sir!! It's rare I subscribe off of one video but this one has me convinced! (wood color options especially dramatically different tone is very rare to come by but this project is a must when I have something light and dark enough! Thanks so much for sharing this one cheers!

That's a great idea Mr Bright! With a ripple instead of a mount, one can create multiple moons.

Although im still very green with turning most my tutorials have come off videos from uk turners on here. Wayne the wood turner glen teagle and few others. I'm back in the workshop Jan 7th although it's like a bomb has went off so maybe towards end Jan before I get onto it. Oh and I use carbide 😬😬 but hopefully should still work out. 🫡🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿👍

That came out amazing. How did you come across this idea? Were you working on contrasting wood types and just stumbled on how the moon would "appear"? I'm very new to turning, but this seems "simple" enough with some good wood choices and some help making sure the initial pieces are well sanded to make a flat, clean fit.

Hi Biff, just experimenting several years ago, I wondered what would happen if I cut the bottom corner off and glued a different bit of wood on, I got a nice curve when it initially went through and since perfected it. Works great when starting with square blanks so you can use the corners - see end of this video and the last code with the Ziricote 😃 Good luck and I’d love you to report back and let me know how you got on 🤗

Ooooo, kind of, the moon gets a bit ugly with too much reduction. You can have another moon or two if you have a wave effect in the mound 😃😃👍

@WoodWithD the local club only seems to be open during my work hours. Haven't met them yet... i do have a lathe, and enjoy my time using it. My belt sander blew a bearing so it's dead to me now. I really need to replace that.... Band saws big enough to do that cut are just really expensive. Not good for the hobbyist like me. Ill keep going with small things and watching your videos, dreaming of a larger shop space! Thanks!

@ I feel you! I consider my space small when I see others with enough room to swing a cow by the tail (not that I would or could!). I’ve been lucky getting the bits together that I have I have over the years, nearly always second hand. But we make do and strive for newer and bigger 😃😃😃

The reason I don't use Purple Heart is that is quickly turns an ugly color of brown.

Totally agree, but, if you can accept that it’ll turn and put it with a wood that will still contrast with the yucky brown, it’s not so bad 😃 😁
