Some Tool songs have great intros. For example Eulogy which adds layer upon layer ( perhaps you might need to come up with new hand gestures for your headphone). Other Tool songs have a separate intro like Rosetta Stoned where the intro is Lost Keys. It sets you up for a musical masterpiece but brace yourself for Maynard's performance (which is going to render you speechless). I loved your facial expression when you heard Vicarious a second time, can't wait to see it after Rosetta Stoned's finale. And... vicarious has presented you the "low low Maynard" and the "la la Maynard".

I used to be a technical instructor and writer. 3 ways that people learn; read then do, just go for it and learn by mistake and watch someone else do it and learn, vicarious. How did cavemen teach their young to hunt? Watch from a safe distance and learn what works. I think that is what this song is about, watching from a safe distance and understand what works and what doesn't work in many different scenarios. How often do we watch something on the screen and say to ourselves and others how we would have done it different and better?
@coolhand623 жыл бұрын
Vicarious is one of my favorites. The song itself, by examination, is much different than most Tool songs, in a few ways. It's Maynard examining life from a different angle, to each all a simple lesson. The music is, as always, exceptional. It's easy for this song to play because it's such an evil, almost taboo subject, so that plays right into the evil sounds. Unlike other Tool songs where we have time to just take into the moment, Vicarious is a rip roaring adventure. In that way it's a bit like 'Tick and Leeches', but in a different way. Both songs feeling more 'metal' than most of Tools later work. All your comments are always appreciated. It's the jam! ;) Add on: I'm sure you've heard this already, but Wings for Marie must be listened to with 10,000 Days. It really must.

You are NOT ready for "Wings" and "!0,000 days" yet. But when you do listen to them you MUST listen to them back to back and make sure you have the lyrics. Take as long as you need, but once you do, "Wings and 10K" are 1 long song... You know how they love their intros, well, "Wings" is an epic intro to "10,000 Days" I believe they wanted to have something that they could do on tour because performing the whole song, nearly every night, would be "torture", and probably impossible to pull off at the time Now, with their skills, they could probably do it as a whole, but it's probably really hard for Maynard to get through it... Their new album shows that they're capable of doing some pretty long songs, and I'm sure they're a challenge for even them...but damn, their endurance... Gorgio was right: "It's Aliens"
