Oh how much I love being a member of this Christian faith. I really do love it. And the Book of Mormon is actually quite remarkable. I am reading it now. It fits right in with my additional love for the Holy Bible. I am delighted the BBC did such a great job with this video.

Thank you for sharing so that we could watch. Initial reactions: 1. It surprises me the church allowed them so much access to do this documentary, esp after past documentaries did not go well for church relations. 2. Takes a softer approach, not too many hardball questions, but awkward answers given by adult leaders are telling. 3. The humanizing approach to the young missionaries themselves was fair. I feel so sorry for them!! 4. It brought back some repressed trauma from my mission. I was trained in a trio like the sister missionary [true fact, we all innocently called them "threesomes" back in the early 80s] it totally sucks to be with one person 24/7, its hell with two others. 5. I would have liked to hear the story of the missionary who left. But I'm glad they chose to respect his privacy. 6. Theres always been so many disturbing things about missions! Meeting goals and the stats are STILL king. And there's even more pressure now with all these social media requirements. 50 online contacts a day?!? Are you freaking serious?! Ugh. 7. I'm Heartbroken for the sister's mom and brother and for the whole family. That was a powerful example of the hurt church dogma creates, and how it tear families up 8. Believing members would probably be annoyed by some of the statements throughout, but would feel this ended on a positive note with the young man's baptism, and the "uplifting" song. It "planted some seeds". Although it helped humanize Mormons, one would be mistaken to think it helped normalize the The Church.

I’m surprised they allowed the word MORMON to be used in the title and throughout. My nephew is serving in Phoenix now and says most contacts are familiar with the church and are not at all receptive to the message. Their whole thing is social media. He’s a musician and spends most of his time recording for social media hoping to develop “friendships” and make appointments. Better than knocking on doors and he gets to play guitar all day.

Watched it just now. Thank you so much for the link. I must say it definitely brought back lots of mission memories for me. And no you cannot just leave when you want. I am American and went to southern Chile. My passport was immediately put in the mission safe so even if I was able to purchase a ticket and come home I wouldn’t have been able to. I asked to go home my first few months and was denied. Then fast forward tons of health issues (I developed a bleeding ulcer) my release was a month early but my parents told me not the pres or the APs even. I felt betrayed by my mission Pres

Despite all the criticisms of the church we see on social media, I did like the documentary. It showed some realistic parts of missionary life, like the threesomes and the constant rejection with cold contacts on the streets. It also mentioned some of the missionaries having ADHD, anxiety and depression problems before serving a mission. The mission president was frank that some missionaries do go home early, and that they should not feel stigmatized for returning early. I was moved most by the baptism at the end since it brought me back to when I was a young convert to the church decades ago. I was starting a journey on a covenant path with Jesus Christ. All the alleged problems with the church aside, my conversion was one of the best decisions of my life.

Very good documentary. A few hilarious parts. Someone should edit the subtitles, however. If you watched the subtitles you would be very confused. They were incorrect many times. I even saw one swear word....where the Sister clearly didn't say that.

Whilst the documentary was interesting, it did not go into what I see as the absolute core of the religion - The Book of Mormon. After being approached by missionaries myself and handed a Book of Mormon, meeting with them a few times, it became blindly obvious to me that the book is a complete fraud fabricated by Joseph Smith. I remember asking the missionaries for a free Bible as well, however they would only give out a Book of Mormon. Despite all the other problems with this religion, I can't help but feel it would be a lot more attractive to outsiders like me if they gave more focus on the regular Bible. Ultimately, the missionaries insisting that the Book of Mormon was absolute divine truth above even the Bible is what caused me to not get baptised. In the age of the internet, it only takes a little bit of research to understand how fictional the Book of Mormon is.

I'm glad you were able to spot it before you were too invested. 💷💷 Under the current leadership there is a shift towards mainstream Christianity but the Bible will always play second fiddle to three book of Mormon.
