My old stomping grounds. Used to fish there almost every day 40 years ago. Upper and lower lake. We'd dirtbike back into templin hwy and get to where no one ever was. Before the stripers were in there in the 1980s. I caught a 20 lb bass from the swim beach on the lower lake one night in July 1985. 20 lbs. Looked at it for a minute, put it on my zebco scale, let it go. Pyramid was for stripers in those days

My first Stripers I got from the aqueducts in Fresno County. They're a lot of fun. Kept some to cook and eat. They're a bland meat, not like Largemouth or Bluegill which are the best tasting.
@TheFishCatcher2 ай бұрын
Idk how they taste from the aqueduct but the ones from castaic and pyramid actually taste pretty good. But for me black bass have been the opposite they're not as good as trout or striper in my opinion
@marlonb.82432 ай бұрын
@@TheFishCatcher Everyone's got their favorite. Good thing not all fish are the same. Some love the fishy-tasting fish like mackerel or bonito. I like 'em all and if it's bland, I just add spices or hot sauce :)

Nice glide bait striper!😄Doesn't hurt to keep those stripers. 😎 They taste good too. The lake is infested with stripers. They accidentally got into the lake in the late 70's and slowly the population has very much affected the overall balance of the fishery. Used to be one of best largemouth bass fisheries in the USA thru the early 1980's to late 1990's. Now it's probably not even at the top 500.

@@TheFishCatcher Ahhhh man it’s not stupidity haha probably just over excited… those swim bait bites are pure drug rushes lol (notice how all those bites you got were parallel casts close to shore) They look to pin those trout to a wall makes em easier to catch than in open water. 😎🤙🏽
@TheFishCatcher2 жыл бұрын
It's a bit of both lol but yea man gotta make those correct casts because they need leverage and that's when I get my bites but sometimes striper bite in open water too

Every time I come to a spot, before I make my first cast I look around me, and before I cast I already decided where I am gonna land the fish if i hook one. U wanna do that before u cast, otherwise what happened on your first fish will happen and you're panicking and looking around u to see how you're gonna land it and that gives it time to pop off like it did. Plus if u have 25 or 30 lb test and it's just like a 5 lber u can just flip that thing outta the water and onto land. Just my 2 cents.
@TheFishCatcher2 жыл бұрын
Oh yea you got it right there. I now have learned I'm just glad it wasn't a monster fish haha but thanks for that !
@svang552 жыл бұрын
@@TheFishCatcher thanks for sharing though, I also think it might improve your land ratio to set the hook a little bit harder. I don't come there often because it's a bit longer drive but I've caught 3 striper there during the trout plants on big swimbaits. Hoping more plants coming real soon.
