Hello From Mark In KY. Actually I do remember another episode of CHIPS in which there was a freeway crash in which the paramedic squad that showed up at the scene had one paramedic which had the very dark hair and the second paramedic had red hair in which the scene was filmed in which you could not really see their faces. I don’t think that the squad was 51 as was in Emergency. One of the Amateur Radio Club meetings that I attended had the local EM director speaking to us who was also a firefighter back around the same time period that Emergency was on TV. This person praised the show for bringing the idea of EMS and or paramedics to his fire department and was citing the show for its real life scenarios that were commonly portrayed. Most people never realized that Mike Stover on Emergency was actually a real LA County Firefighter because of the need to have a certified firefighter to drive the fire truck.

In the Emergency universe, those two firefighters could not have been Johnny and Roy, because this scene was set in 1979. Johnny and Roy were promoted to Captain in 1977, unless they were allowed to function as Paramedics, while still being Captains.
@MGower44658 ай бұрын
There was an entire episode about Roy being offered a promotion to Engineer, and much is made of how he would have to give up being a paramedic. But there *is* an episode where Gage pulls additional duty at another station under a Captain Stone, who not only was in the same paramedic class as Gage, but dialog even mentions Stone intended to keep up with his paramedic training despite his rank. Even assuming Roy and John are able to be Captains and retain certification as paramedics, there is no way they would operate together. We see even when Captain Stanley hands over control of a situation to a Chief, he's still expected to supervise part of the effort and be the Chief's eyes and ears up close.

One of the cool things of being a kid in the 70's Hollywood was seeing location filming for so many iconic T.V. shows or even knowing the locations if I didn't see it happen in real time. I saw location filming for shows like Mannix, Barretta, Adam-12, Emergency, Rockford Files, Starsky and Hutch, Barnaby Jones, Police Woman and more including many movies. I learned this seeing them film Rockford files one time that they could not tie up public telephones so they setup phone booths that the studio owned on a corner to film scenes of them using the phone.

4:24 This actually would be the same vehicle used as squad 51. Note the small white light on the top of the light bar. That light was supposed to be only on paramedic units, to differentiate them from regular Rescue units. The light was included on the plans LAFD shared with the Emergency production when they built Squad 51, but LAFD itself never used the extra light, so only the fake Squad was ever true to the actual plans.

I greatly enjoyed Emergency and Chips back in the day, though I don’t remember watching Emergency in its original network run, as I did with Chips. I don’t remember this episode, but I do remember episodes with 51’s truck (especially the foggy day episode!). I consider them to be valid crossovers, and I actually consider the Squad and the Trucks to be characters. As for the error where Adam-12 was first in the shared universe then appeared to be a tv show, I eventually theorized that in-universe, Adam-12 was made into a tv show (starting a few years later then the real show did), but it could be either a regular tv show based on events in the shared universe, or an early reality show. (I have a friend who thinks that in-universe, the Brady Bunch Variety Show was a reality show based on the Bradys, just like Donny and Marie was.) I have researched out what I call the Dragnetverse (because Dragnet all started it off with the original radio series and worked on a timeline for all the episodes, tv movies, and theatrical films, etc. Naturally, there are several forgotten tv series in this. The Dragnetverse continues on now. There’s an episode of 911 (the LA series, not the Texas one), where’s an acutely reference to Rampart hospital. Thanks or your great video, loved loved LOVED it!
