As a kid watching “The 3” I never noticed anything but the slapstick comedy. As an adult I noticed Curly was noticeably different in ‘Three Little Pirates,’ 1946. I thought it was just “old age” catching up with him. Curly was 43 at the time. BTW - the “Maha? Aha!” routine is still hilarious. 🤣

Hello, Rick. I was watching The Three Stooges shorts way back in the 50’s. I was living in Brooklyn, New York and a fellow named Joe Bolton (known as OFFICER Joe Bolton because he dressed up in a policeman’s uniform) hosted the TV show which was broadcast from WPIX channel 11 back then. I saw this particular episode many times on his program.

I too grew up watching The Three Stooges with Officer Joe Bolton on WPIX Channel 11. Only I was living in New Jersey. Go back when Officer Joe hosted The Little Rascals (Our Gang Comedy) shorts. Then came Chuck McCann and Zacherley (after his stint on WOR-TV Channel 9) Can't think of a more fun time to be a kid. Wish Children's TV was like this today.

My parents and I watched this episode a few times when I was younger. My Dad compared himself to that wild man hairy to himself. He had a bad nerve problem with loud music also. There was one point where Curly was in this lady's bedroom, and Curly talked a little like normal. Then when she accused Curly of being a wolf. Curly went back to speaking like his character. Good video, Rick. Take care. Explains a lot. Thanks.

The wolfman going nuts whenever he hears music is akin to Curly going nuts whenever he sees a tassel, smelled Wild Hyacinth perfume, etc. I watched an episode of The Dean Martin Celebrity Roasts where Lucille Ball was a guest appearance, and I noticed her voice was deeper as well.

I have never detected a deterioration in Curly’s performance. In a few shots, it looks as if the wolf man is just casually watching the Stooges. I can almost see the wolf fold his arms as if to say to himself “this looks interesting. I wonder what they’re going to do now.”

Curly's heavy drinking and partying was what caused him to fall ill and his voice to change. I didn't notice any change in his voice until If A Body Meets A Body when the change was more obvious. And Harry Cohn's refusal to let him rest as Moe insisted likely hastened his departure, and put him in an early grave.

Mostly likely, when Shemp came in he did rest some and even came back for a cameo with Shemp. By that time, it was too late to reverse what was done

Hey Rick, thanks for posting this. I do recall Curly's voice dropping to a normal level on a few occasions, probably due to his strenuous night-life. Just for the record, I do remember this episode I hadn't seen it in a while, I'll have to watch it again, just to see any change his vocalization. Now my question to you is. Who played the "Wolfman?" I've always wondered who he was. I thought that you could fill in the blanks. Congratulations on your recent marriage. And keep up the good work.

“ The Wolfman “ was played by Stooge regular actor/stuntman Duke York. Duke was usually a foil for the boys as a gangster, or wild man of some sort. Sadly, he took his life in 1952, ironically six days after Curly’s passing.

I am in love with Christine McIntyre. @Rick, for Christmas, can you do a video on The Jack Benny Program 1957 (and rerun in subsequent years) Christmas show. I think it's called "Jack goes Christmas shopping". Mel Blanc gives a performance of a lifetime, just steals it from everybody else. What's noted about this episode is the VERY dark tone it takes at the end. I won't spoil it here. I think it would be a good one for you to do.

This is another one that was shown in the mid 70's. I do remember seeing it a few times. It is indeed one of our favorites. As for being able to detect Curly's decline by his voice in this short.... I think you might be stretching it somewhat. You leave out some factors, like the sound equipment during that time. The film of that short could just be different. So many things. BUT it's been well documented over the decades of how wild in real life Curly truly was. He partied all night during this time.

If you could do another video on this short but with focus on the actor playing the Wolfman and what he went through bringing that character to life would be so cool! But, staying on the topic at hand, too bad you couldn’t have provided a sound bite of Curly’s voice before this short and one of his voice in this short for comparison purposes. I understand though, probably because of copyrights and all. Despite everything, Curly kept it going, and for that I will always be grateful. Hollywood is known for its characters and not its saints, but overall, Curly was still a good guy.

Oh my God in Chicago they constantly showed this one in reruns they still do show Three Stooges in reruns in Chicago, but they put damn commercials in the shorts sometimes two commercial breaks it is so annoying . The shorts aren’t even that long 15 to 17 minutes. Really you need a break in between. 🤷🏻‍♂️ Curly along with shemp, weren’t the healthiest people in the world . They ate bad food they smoked cigarettes and cigars. Curly drink don’t know if shemp drank a lot but that all caught up to them sadly

I've seen it, I give it a 7/10, it's definitely not one of the best stooge shorts, I feel the scenes with the wolf man lurking around the hotel went on a little too long, this is one of the several shorts where I feel the first half is superior to the second half.

I’ve managed to collect all of the stooge’s autographs over the years. Curly by far is the hardest to collect it seems to me he didn’t sign a lot but all of my signatures are graded so I know they are authentic. I’m working on getting all the extras and the one I find hard to locate is bud jamison. I have Vernon dent and Emil Sitka who did the love bird line. A fun fact he and one other actor are the only two to work with all 6 stooges they called Sitka the 4th stooge when Larry fine had his stroke in 1970 and Sitka filled in for Larry.

She sure was a looker. That wolf-man get up is ridiculous. The facial fur doesn't blend with the actor's normal hair, making it look like a cheap/lazy Halloween costume. They should've put a wig on him.

It seems a classier time even viewing it through the lens of the Three Stooges. Back when women used to dress like ladies 1:13 and hotel bellhops wore uniforms like soldiers in a military parade. Of course that was part of their gag, the Stooges were cutting loose in a world with a lot more formality. I like the architecture in those days way better too, most modern buildings are so plain and boring. It would be cool to go back for a day just to look around and see things then.

I could not notice any difference in Curly's performance in this episode....You might as well state Larry's performance was off..as well.. if you are going by voice as a standard.. Larry .. only says about 4 words in this short.. words like "open up it's me.." is something wrong with Larry also?... I think ..that thinking a person can tell if someone like Curly.. is acting different... or being less active or having more trouble with his voice in this episode.. is INSANE...
