Great video! Love your Mexico trip and thank you for all of the time and effort. FYI - Those Casetas (toll booths) were taken over by the locals because the money that was supposed to be distributed to the town for various programs was not being distributed during the government change over. The locals were allowed to take over many Casetas (no violence) but they are only suggesting a donation and will always let you pass. Also, the donation is usually about half of the normal toll cost which is what the guy was trying to say. That one was 100 pesos ($5). And the parking ticket was 256 pesos ($12.50 US).

Once i heard an italian friend say "Mexico is the Italy of America, if o leave my hometown it would be in Mexico because it's the only place i fell im in home"
@gobir_roz3 жыл бұрын
Not all mexico of course, but we do have around 132 magic towns, and 2 magic cities (guanajuato and san miguel de allende), as well as many historic centres in the main cities, influenced by different cultures. For instance, Morelia's historic centre is very spanish renascentist, while magic town Real de Catorce at least to me gives some middle-east vibes. Taxco is imo one of the most beautiful magic towns we have, and that I sense some italian touch in that one but I'm not sure. The thing is we truly have a huge varied country.

Yes. Guanajuato (GTO) is very Beautiful, especially if you are a tourist who is only visiting. Living there as an Expat - and not a wealthy Expat is a different Reality! First...as "European" as it looks, it's Spirit, and Character is decidedly NOT European. There is a lot of poverty here, I mean...just look at the condition of most of the residential buildings - they are in bad shape and in need of serious restoration and updates to plumbing and electrical wiring. At it's high altitude, GTO can get pretty cold in the winter at times, and these spaces are not insulated. There are a lot of Spiders, especially Black Widows, and Brown Recluse that will find a way into your home, not to mention a plethora of Scorpions that one has to deal with! Street Food is Ok...but nothing compared to what you can get in Mexico City, or nearby San Miguel de Allende. And then there is the issue of Safety! The State of Guanajuato has the highest level of Violent crime in all of Mexico now...mostly in the larger City of Celaya, but it does "Bleed" over into GTO City as well. I often wonder if people making these videos make deals with the Office of Tourism to paint a very biased, and distorted picture of these places. Don't get me wrong: Guanajuato has some amazing qualities: Historical Beauty, a very active Cultural life - with a great Orchestra, and a Superb Cultural Festival in October - Cervantino, which showcases some of the best International Chamber Music, Early Music, Contemporary and World Music Artist that you will ever experience in One Place! - but there are Caveats! ! These issues are seldom featured in these Travel videos - it's almost always the "Colors", and the damn Food! GTO (the city) has Enormous potential to be one of THE most Outstanding Cities in ALL the Americas, and I wish the Mexican Government would realize this, and Get to Work!
