Man, this is just worst case scenario after worst case scenario. My heart feels for them for sure. I can’t even imagine having to drive the rv home after going thru such a traumatic experience, that’s going to be tough for her. I was a manager at an rv park for a few years and one weekend we had an elderly man pass away in his rv. He was on vacation with his wife and an rv group. He passed in his sleep next to his wife. She woke up and found him. Their friends comforted her for hours but as it was a Sunday they all had to get on the road and return home as well bc it was just a weekend trip. I also had my sons birthday party that afternoon at the park bc we lived on the property. But I refused to set up while she was there. Since he was deceased he wasn’t taken out in an ambulance, the poor woman had to wait hours for the coroner to come. She also didn’t know how to drive the rv. Luckily her kids lived within driving distance and drove to pick her up so she wasn’t stranded, but she asked me if I could park her rv in our storage facility until she could make alternate plans. I gave her the rest of the summer storage for free and told her no rush. My heart broke for her. She kept saying “he was going to teach me on the ride home. He wanted me to learn to drive it. It’s like he knew he was leaving me.”

Phone was crippled, in an iron-rich canyon, and could only make 911 calls out, not get calls in. Was able to eventually get a call through, and baked in the hot sun for hours before rescuers came. Glad I didn't die. Lesson 1, don't go out alone. Lesson 2, tell people where you're going.

Also If you're driving an RV and gonna buy a road atlas, buy a Motor Carriers road atlas. They color code roads based on whether an 18-wheeler can use them. If we're talking about the the same case, if I remember correctly, the family was warned by the local people working in the diner/lodge they stopped at before going on their trip to absolutely, under no circumstances, use the road they got stranded on because it was deadly in the winter, but the father didn't listen and took the road anyway because it was a "shortcut" to where there were going. Its on my Suzuki DR400 dirt bike and is about the size of a pack of gum, battery will last 3 months with a ping rate of every10 min while riding an hour a day, or 6 months if you have it only ping once per 24 hours. If I were to get in trouble. There is a button on it you can press to send sos pings with my location to anyone you want. You need to set it up before you get lost though. There is no way to do that once you are out of cell service and only have GPS signal. The thing is $120 with 2 years of cell/gps service. Yes. I saw a doco & unfortunately they left their RV while it was dark. They thought they were close enough to the main road to get help in their Kia. They couldn't trust their RV GPS. They had all their supplies in their RV to last awhile, plus protection from the elements. They’d been travelling all day when they got stuck...so staying put & getting sleep in the RV would've helped. R.I.P Dear Ron 💜

Man, that story is sad as hell. I think about all those times my grandparents would take their van up in to the mountains 30+ years ago before GPS and Grandfather would just pick a random trail to drive down looking for a good fishing spot, it's kind of a miracle they never got stuck and stranded like this. These are my new favorite videos to binge on. Hits close to home. I went on a search and rescue to find my brother and his friend. They were snowmobiling in the Little belt mountains near Showdown ski area. That is the most snow I have ever ridden in. -40F and 30 ft of snow. We could not go anywhere on the sleds of that era. The Air Force found the fire they had started by infra red. They survived 3 days and nights inside the fire pit. Only frostbite and broken egos thank god! Thank God for you guys.

Totally agree, I’ve put a recovery kit and military surplus hike pack with several days good and water, first aid , every survival tool , dry strikers blankets , pancho etc in all my SUVs and after seeing another story like this my dad is very much a just pick up and take off in his new Subaru and will have no real destination or plan but loves to explore going alone against us kids better judgment. He’s an army Vey with a prosthetic leg and failing lungs and it territifes me he does this stuff becasue he wouldn’t make it a half mile from a car but after loosing my mom to brain cancer a year Ago, he just explores by vehicle now as my mom used to love thst and it’s what he’ll continue to do so I put a recovery pack and a Patrol sized infantry pack with everything he could potentially use , put it in the back of his car and told him so not take them out so they’re always there if u need them. Hope he never does but yeah, it’s so tough. Like Heavy D said. They ended up on this one track first road thst is drivable and doable for 90 minutes but Theresa no where to turn around so they kept going and going further hoping for a turn around until finally that hairpin . Tragic they took a wrong turn in the Kia or they’d of made it out. I live in. Utah too and spend alot of time off-road and in Moab on the jeep trails and I’ve noticed a LOT of the elderly RV tourists that spend time down there tow a stock Jeep Wrangler instead of little SUVs or cars ajd the tow weight is the same but they have one of the most capable stock off-road vehicles ever made if they get into a bind but then some like these people looks like they had no intention of heading up this road . Trayic
