As someone who loves the history of sports, I had to check for myself...and that's correct. The record for yards in a game is by the 1950 New York Football Giants as Chris Berman would call them. They ran for 423 yards and passed for 55, a difference of 368. The 1955 Bears ran for 406 yards in a game but passed for 98, a difference of 308. The only other NFL team that has ever even gained as much as that 393 yard difference was last year's Ravens, who rushed for 404 yards against the Bengals and threw for 121, a difference of 283.

Cincinnati scored 4 touchdowns in this game. They were all on the ground. Outside of this game their offense scored a total of 6 touchdowns through week 12. One third of the Bengals total points during their first 10 games came against Denver. The Bengals averaged less than 12 points per game in 2000. Including the 31 they scored here. I had to triple check this but Denver held 12 of their other 15 opponents under 100 rushing yards. The Bengals rushed for 407 against them. The Broncos allowed 49 more rushing yards than they did against Cincinnati in their first 7 games combined. They gave up just 18 more in the 6 games following this one combined.

This game, like most other home games for the Bengals at that time besides Pittsburgh and Cleveland, was not a sellout and so it was blacked out on local TV. I listened to this game on the radio, like i did for the other 6 home games a season that weren't televised. Just an amazing day that came out of nowhere. When he ran down Sir Walter, the Bengals didn't complete a pass in the last three quarters and had just two for the game. Two. Nine of his 22 carries went for negative, none or one yard. Dillon averaged 4.6 yards per attempt that 2000 season while his main starting quarterback averaged 4.7 yards per throw

The Bengals, also referred to as the Bungles at this time, hadn't finished above .500 since 1990 and hadn't had a .500 season since 1996 (when they fired Dave Shula midway through that season). They've drafted bust after bust in that timeframe. Even the lowest of teams can have a positive moment in the sunlight, and this is one of those times. The 2000 club would finish 4-12, btw.

An incredibly bizarre upset mostly due to Denver playing a stupidly aggressive defense for most of the game. On nearly every snap they stacked the box with at least 8 guys and all it took was missed or broken tackle for Corey Dillon (or whoever got the handoff) to pop it for a huge gain.

Akili Smith didn’t go 3 and out on the opening drive after halftime, and got benched after the special teams unit came onto the field and the punted the ball back to Denver. I was at this game. The most dominating performance of a running back I have ever witnessed. The funny thing is the Broncos knew the only weapon was Dillon so they had 10 in the box. Bengals QB's completed only 2 of 14 passes for 34 yards. Broncos came into the game as the #1 ranked defense but Dillon was still able to run for 278 yards averaging 13 yards per carry. He had another 45 yard run that was called back for a ticky tack holding call.

This is the franchise Marvin Lewis took and turned in to a perennial playoff team. I don't care if he went 0-20 in the playoffs...he kept getting the BENGALS to the playoffs. They have been basically trash as a franchise since Paul Brown retired in 1975. From 1976 to 2002, they made the playoffs what, four times? They're just remembered more fondly because two of those teams went to the Super Bowl. But they've been a TERRIBLE franchise. Outside of 1981 and 1988, one playoff win in 49 years.

Corey Dillon averaged over 1100 yards rushing a season for 10 years. While playing for the Bengals in their worst period of existence ever, which is really saying something considering how many bad periods they’ve had. Then went to NE helped them win a SB. HOF where you at? Time to make him a HOFer. Cuz I’m telling you he was one of the best rbs of all time.

Please tell me why my Corey Dillon of The Cincinnati Bengals isn't in the Pro Football Hall of Fame? Also, when he was a rookie he beat Hall of Fame Jim Brown's rookie game record and NFL record of 248 yards in a game.
