As someone who loves the history of sports, I had to check for myself...and that's correct. The record for yards in a game is by the 1950 New York Football Giants as Chris Berman would call them. They ran for 423 yards and passed for 55, a difference of 368. The 1955 Bears ran for 406 yards in a game but passed for 98, a difference of 308. The only other NFL team that has ever even gained as much as that 393 yard difference was last year's Ravens, who rushed for 404 yards against the Bengals and threw for 121, a difference of 283.

Cincinnati scored 4 touchdowns in this game. They were all on the ground. Outside of this game their offense scored a total of 6 touchdowns through week 12. One third of the Bengals total points during their first 10 games came against Denver. The Bengals averaged less than 12 points per game in 2000. Including the 31 they scored here. I had to triple check this but Denver held 12 of their other 15 opponents under 100 rushing yards. The Bengals rushed for 407 against them. The Broncos allowed 49 more rushing yards than they did against Cincinnati in their first 7 games combined. They gave up just 18 more in the 6 games following this one combined.

Cory Dillon also holds the NCAA rushing and total yards record for ONE QUARTER, 222 rush and 83 pass receiving for 305 yards. He only played the first quarter. And he also crushed Washington's single season rushing records with 1,695 yards in 1996, 5 lousy yards from 1,700 yards! I wish he would have played at least 3 seasons for us instead of only 1, his career totals would probably neve haver been surpassed by another Husky runner! A really great back.

This game, like most other home games for the Bengals at that time besides Pittsburgh and Cleveland, was not a sellout and so it was blacked out on local TV. I listened to this game on the radio, like i did for the other 6 home games a season that weren't televised. Just an amazing day that came out of nowhere. He kept gashing the defense and then pulled off a few of his trademark bombs, so to speak, late in the game to clinch it.

The Bengals, also referred to as the Bungles at this time, hadn't finished above .500 since 1990 and hadn't had a .500 season since 1996 (when they fired Dave Shula midway through that season). I was at this game. The most dominating performance of a running back I have ever witnessed. The funny thing is the Broncos knew the only weapon was Dillon so they had 10 in the box. Bengals QB's completed only 2 of 14 passes for 34 yards. Broncos came into the game as the #1 ranked defense but Dillon was still able to run for 278 yards averaging 13 yards per carry. He had another 45 yard run that was called back for a ticky tack holding call.

I’ve never EVER seen a starting QB get benched DURING AN OFFENSIVE DRIVE before and after this game! I’ve never seen that! Akili Smith didn’t go 3 and out on the opening drive after halftime, and got benched after the special teams unit came onto the field and the punted the ball back to Denver. Akili got benched IMMEDIATELY after he took an 11-yard sack on 2nd down! Bruce Coslet, the Bengals then-head coach, wanted to publicly humiliate Akili so badly that he burned a timeout one minute into the opening drive of the 2nd half just pull Akili for Scott Mitchell! Akili had only completed 2 passes out of 14 up to that point, and both of those completions were on the Bengals’ first offensive series of the game!
