Good thing Players like Aronian, Nakamura, Wesley So, Caruana, MVL aren't playing in this tournament so we don't have to see the same matches over and over again. Gives chance to players like Vidit, Duda, Shakland, Rapport, Forest and Radjabov. Also allows fans to see some new match-ups !

Yep, playing with keeping an eye on tempos. You don’t want to be hasty. This was a strategy developed at the Battle of Hastyings. (Also famous for longbows vs. radjabows.)

A spectacular game, but it should be emphasized that it was made possible by Vidit's bad reaction to Radjabov's novelty with 13...e5? - opening the a2-g8 diagonal for the white bishop, which as a result became such a monster and added so much power to White's attack. Cold engine analysis shows that 13...b5! (to be followed by an immediate b4 if the bishop tries to remain on the a2-g8 diagonal) leads to an advantage for Black, which probably means that 13.g4 was a one-game idea and won't find further takers at the top level.

9:42 typical danny enjoying himself and making the viewers too enjoy the beauty of chess. That move is just activating a rook (which is worth 5 points) better than winning the bishop (worth 3 points) and making the rook of 0 points at the moment so dynamically winning 2 points by castling

Thank you for these videos Mr. King. They are joy to watch. At around 5:24 you said that the pawn can't be recaptured because it's against the rules of chess. I am chess coach myself and I simply don't agree with this statement. I mean sure it's illegal to move a bishop like a rook, horizontally. But this situation is just different. I always tell my Students - well, not that it's illegal but your King will die and you might as well resign. So they just learn that the pawn can't be captured because King will die. Moving a bishop like a rook is a "cheat" and is illegal, while exposing your King to an attack so it can be captured should just be counted as loss, not as illegal move.
@lashabezhanishvili9034
@lashabezhanishvili9034 5 жыл бұрын
I mean I don't agree with the notion that such move is illegal. I didn't mean to say I did not agree with you because it's not your rule, it's just a generally accepted rule.

9:36 isn't castling queen side illegal because of the opposition white bishop ?
@jonathanbush6197
@jonathanbush6197 5 жыл бұрын
It is illegal to move the king into, out of, or through a check when castling. But moving the rook through a threatened square when castling queenside is perfectly legal, as is moving a threatened rook when castling on either side. If you did not know that, you are not alone. Korchnoi did not know it either until relatively late in his career.

Radjabov actually played in the Candidates twice - in 2011, when he qualified via the Grand Prix (losing to Kramnik in the quarter-finals); and 2013 (as mentioned), when he was nominated as the wild card by SOCAR, the Azeri sponsor. He had a disastrous performance there (last with 4/14) which started a very bad period from him, from which he never really recovered - perhaps until now...

When he was at his 15s, he was considered to be the next world champion. He took down Kasparov at the age of 14. He was very very good player, but he never pushed his limits, he had some personal issues. Generally he is always in top 20, but he can do much better than this.
