Henry the VIII was a butcher. The entire family were professional criminals; hiring hitmen. It would've been a terrifying era to live in. Very interesting video...I love listening about the Tudors. 👑

Hardly criminals......these were brutal times they lived in, people were used to this as the punishment for their crimes, so totally silly to accuse them of being criminals.....we in general can't imagine the brutality of life then, which is our problem, not the people from the past.

Well, obviously you're just mad he had you executed. But seriously, his motivations were so transparent. He broke from the Church so he could rob the monasteries, and get divorced. He had his wives executed because they wouldn't bear him a son, although today we know the male determines the sex of the offspring, not the female. What a rotten guy.

Yes Henry the 8 had no shame in summoning the executioner to execute his enemies

There are many records of young people being hanged for petty theft such as 10 handkerchiefs, so it's just as likely that it could have been that and not witchcraft, as I'm sure that would have remained on record as it usually sparked a witch hunting frenzy and again unlikely that just one small child would have been singled out..........Cromwell was the Lord privy seal that was his job not randomly sorting out Henry's divorce......It's nice to hear your voice instead of the horrible Ai......just be careful about mixing assumption and fact, some of your facts are a little loose, good job though.

I can't bear to read about this. The descriptions of what was done to people range from horrifying to stomach turning. This kind of thing didn't originate with the Tudors nor did it end with them. Sometimes I reflect on the high attainment in the arts and sciences during this era and am unable to reconcile that with the horror, beyond horror, acts of such cruelty that no words can adequately describe them.

Yeah, at best the monarchy is an ineffectual curiosity from a bygone era. I’m looking forward to Australia being a republic although my English dad is a mild monarchist in some ways. I don’t recognise Charles as my head of state. I’m fine with being a commonwealth country in theory as long as it’s a ceremonial kind of position but I don’t like Charles, Camilla, or William or Kate and don’t see them being assets to Australia so why should I support these pampered fops? Aside from being a historical curiosity they have no real value, even diplomatically. That died with Elizabeth. Even then the money they bring in via tourism doesn’t justify their existence and doesn’t really cover their expenses. I’m dreading seeing Charles’ mug on our money. Elizabeth was far from perfect and Charles cares about the environment at least, but the future of the monarchy is pretty dire as the sense of duty to their subjects seems to be dying with each generation. They also need to release Scotland and Wales and reunify Ireland. They’ve caused so much harm even with their power essentially curtailed by parliament. It’s horrifying to me capital punishment exists in this be century but the treatment of people by royals was on their whim and utterly sadistic.

History Calling has released a video on the same day as you did about the execution of Thomas Cromwell and whether it really was botched. Instead of repeating (mostly Victoria) gossip she did a scholarly research in the origins of the story and has made a very convincing argument that it wasn't botched. kzbin.info/www/bejne/p4WYgI2Pq7hqbaM

Have watched that too. It is more than likely completely normal as contemporary accounts mention nothing of such things. Victorian propaganda at it's best.

Witchcraft act was enacted in 1735. I don't think it was illegal under HenryVIII

It was updated in 1735, but it was first brought in towards the end of Henry VIII’s reign in 1542. We are an organisation that celebrates the life of Alice Glaston, who was executed in 1546 under the reign of Henry VIII. We are still unsure as to her “crime”, but we are now more sure than not that it was witchcraft owing to a number of pieces of her puzzle. It was near the end of his reign, but in just a few years, Henry VIII had a substantial number of people hanged for witchcraft, including we believe 11 year old Alice.

Basically ASOIAF

A lot of AOIAF is based almost beat for beat from real historical events, conflicts and battles like the wars of the roses. GRRM thinks it’s the best way to make battles and other events realistic.

@@skeeterinnewjersey5256 A Song of Ice and Fire (ASOIAF), informally, Game of Thrones, is the written book series by George RR Martin. It is loosely inspired by Tudor society/The War of the Roses, amongst which includes execution methods. For example, in book 4, a character threatens the oubliette to another character, during a political discussion.
