I have this exact same repointing tool. Saturday night I replaced points in 4 sets. On my Phil Taylor 95Gen 1 I was putting Target Storm grooved points in. For whatever reason I managed to get 1 in a bind probably from holding the tool as you showed and it was going in pretty hard. Next thing I heard was a snap. Luckily it simply broke the point and not the barrel. Had to open another set of Target Storm grooves points to complete the job. Second try worked fine. I have re-pointed no less than 30 sets so far and this was my first issue ever. Still love the tool but your suggestion about holding it is critical.

The last time I repointed my darts I simply used a rivet gun to extract the points and then to install the points I used a rubber mallet and a block of soft wood and put the point in place by hand stood the dart upright on the wood and hit it with the mallet. It worked out great. Maybe I was lucky and the tool that you are using is not expensive so I may get one.

I just posted up above after watching this video & you can see where I talked about having shorter tips; I've always used about 35 mm, but in looking for some grooved-type tips, w/o thinking, I purchased 32 mm, but when I changed them out (even though the previous were only 35 mm), that 3 mm shorter length certainly feels short. Now I haven't thrown with them yet, but just as you stated in your post, you tried longer tips & liked them better; I've seen several other KZbin videos where several have said the same thing. Do you still feel the longer tips work better for you & if so, since the ones I just replaced are only 32 mm, so how much longer would you say as a guide?

Hello, can you tell me what barrel that is you are using ?. I'm looking for a dart like that
@kenhearrean7943 Жыл бұрын
Thanks for the video; I was having trouble trying to change out a set of tips & your video helped me figure out my mistake! Btw, I do have a couple of questions; 1st, I only play steel-tips & since I use one of my fingers to lightly touch part of the tip, getting tips that have grooving in them is what I try to find. Anyway, I've found a few thru Dart Shopper, but the grooving doesn't seem to be very deep; when I watch the BDO Pro's & others, I see a lot of them also use grooved tips, but theirs seem to be much deeper grooving, which I would think would, not only help secure the darts into the bristle boards better, but also allow for better gripping/touching of the tip. I just received some I ordered which are 32 mm & once inserted into the barrel, the darts seem fairly short, possibly only 2-3 mm shorter, but definitely shorter. Now I'm certainly not a pro, but I've always used shorter tips, but slightly longer (like 35 mm). But I saw someone's KZbin video where he indicated more players are using longer tips, but I didn't catch the reasoning! Last question, when my wife & I retired & moved here to Central Florida from Southeast Texas, I decided to possibly start playing again after all these years, but there doesn't seem to be any leagues or tournaments close to where we live now, which is Leesburg & about 60 or so miles north of Orlando. There is a league/weekly tournaments in Ocala or Orlando, but just too far to drive for a weekly league. I hear talk of others playing either tournaments or leagues online, but I haven't looked into it & have no idea how than can even possibly work...any suggestions on this?

I use superglue on every point. Having a point stay in the board when you retrieve your dart mid-game is a nightmare I’m in no rush to recreate ever! Haha. I actually thought your 101 tip was going to be not to hold the point too tightly or loosely. Thanks for the tips. I'm going to be ordering a repointing tool in the next couple days, probably the Designa one, and I have a question regarding points. I have a set of Designs Patriot X in transit and they should be here within the next week or so. I'm thinking about changing the points in the very near future. I prefer smooth points, no barbs or board destructor points or anything like that. I'm thinking about doing this to get rid of the lip where the barrel and point meet. What would be the best points for these barrels? There are so many to choose from, and I'm at a complete loss. Also, I like that piece of advice about trying out the repointing tool on some cheapie brass barrels, just to get a feel for how it should be. I was actually going to be doing this exact thing so I don't destroy a set that I'll miss. Anyway, any info that can be shared is welcomed and would be greatly appreciated.

Speaking of repointing, I have the Designa tool with the handle, I repointed many sets of darts using Target Storm points (smooth, nano grip, lasered), with Winmau Freeflo points or regular straight black points from Mission/Winmau and I never had a major issue. Only scratched a couple of points, might have been because it was too tight on the point, or not enough and caused it to slide a bit… Last night I tried repointing my Elite95 darts with Harrows Apex points, and it’s a mess as there are no straight section on the points, they’re tapered all the way. Any magic tip for this? The point slides, scratches and bends… total mess! Other question is about the Bull’s repointing machine, would this be the only tool that prevents the issues I have? It looks like a different system. It’s expensive and don’t want to throw away the money just to try it… Thanks and keep the great videos coming WWD 🤜🏻🤛🏻
@WorldwideDarts3 жыл бұрын
Harrows Apex points are a headache to repoint. Like you said, there's no place to clamp down on them without crushing them or scratching them. I'm not sure how the Bull's repointer would be any different.
@elessard3 жыл бұрын
@@WorldwideDarts I can’t tell for sure as I can’t find the details I want about the Bulls repointing machine, but it looks like the point is only holding in a hub with a tapered cavity in it… if that makes any sense, I’d explain better in French lol. Trying to get more details and gonna ask Darts Corner too!
@elessard3 жыл бұрын
Follow-up: Well, the Bulls machine isn’t made as I thought it was, so not buying it. It also leaves marks. Good thing for the wallet lol, and I’m gonna work on my idea at the machine shop to try making my own repointing tool, or at least an add-on we could all use with our tools. Oh and, Apex points are trash. I measured them and the inconsistency is huge between points of a same set, and between different sets too. Size of the widest tapered parts varies from 3.16mm to 3.44mm, making some lips disappear, or not. Bottom line is: Designa Repointing Tool + Target Storm / Winmau Freeflo points all day people.

After an hour of darts it starts to tear up the skin so I stated wrapping a 1/4” piece of sport tape around my finger. Thumb and pointer rear grip, middle finger right behind the nose cone, ring finger on top of point right at the barrel, pinky under point about mid point. So I'm planning to buy some darts from a dart shop. They happen to have a point replacement service which I want to use since I don't have the re-pointing tool. I noticed that in their disclosure they absolve themselves of responsibility should the dart barrel break during the process. A few thoughts come to mind. First, is that something I should be concerned about? Secondly, do dart manufacturers like Harrows warranty their products from failing under normal usage circumsta… See More

That sounds insane! If they break the dart while repointing then it's their fault and they should replace it. Is that from a US dart shop by chance?

@@Camrographer I would already highly recommend you avoid. That's some sketchy stuff. Why not buy from Darts Corner? They have a repointing service and are probably WAY cheaper. Heck, the money you save at Darts Corner would probably be enough to buy a repointing tool.

@@WorldwideDarts I'll check it out. any others you'd recommend if they don't have the dart/weight I want in stock?

@@Camrographer Darts Corner, A180 or Double Top Darts. Darts Corner has a discount code (facebookers) which saves 7% on most items. A180 has one as well (wazza180). What darts were you looking to get? Mostly everything is a lot cheaper from the UK except Shot darts. Those are priced similar no matter where you buy them

How many times can you repoint the same set? I've wondered if they would get progressively loser with every change?
@WorldwideDarts3 жыл бұрын
I've repointed a couple sets multiple times. My One80 match darts have been repointed 3 times with no issues at all. If for some reason the hole loosens up you could always go the Loctite route.

Great video, thanks! I am thinking of getting my own repointing tool, my old RD Javelins do desperately need a new set of points and I was a bit afraid that I‘d ruin them as I‘ve never done that on my own before😅

Just practice up on an old set and you'll be fine. I have another 2 or 3 videos on repointing that might be worth a watch

@@WorldwideDarts Will do that! I still have an old set of brass darts lying around to try it on first. I will also certainly watch your other repointing vids. Thanks for the great content on the channel👍
