6:30 when he said that he wouldn't get into why the moon turns red specifically because the accepted scientific reason is stupid, that made me curious how flat earthers explain it. Apparently the most common theory is that it's caused by an entirely separate, third celestial body that orbits the sun, passes directly between the earth and moon during an eclipse, is transparent so that you can see the moon through it, and cannot be seen under any other circumstances except during an eclipse.

Once again I'm just depressed at the lack of curiosity. When I finally learned about the umbra and the penumbra it connected several different things for me. It explained why, for instance, studio photographers use light modifiers like umbrellas to turn a comparatively small source of light into a large light source. Yes they always said they did it to soften the shadows but I had to understand the difference between the two before I got it. When I finally did it was like a world opened up to me. I could see variations of this behavior all around me and all of a sudden the behavior of light made a little bit more sense. But instead here we have some flat earther trying to say that a model that is deliberately exaggerated to make it easier to understand uses satanic numbers and that every point on the surface of the sun emits light in one angle only that is designed to converge on the moon. It's like this tool has never seen a bare light bulb. It's like he expects a light bulb to only emit light in his direction, as if he honestly believes that if he walked around a room the light bulb would emit a spotlight aimed specifically at him. Because if he didn't believe this he would understand that every point of the surface of the light bulb emits light in a broad range of directions.

Mr T&S's greatest achievement, genuinely, was when he flew around America to different latitudes with a digital scale and a weight in order to prove that things do not weigh less at latitudes closer to the equator due to the centrifugal force of a spinning earth. He then proceeded to take measurements that closely matched the weights predicted at different latitudes if the earth is a sphere with dimensions and rotational speed science claims. I was impressed at how well he carried out the experiment and how he completely dismissed the results with a handwave similar to Jism's "interesting" lights on the beach experiment when he proved curvature. If you watch his whole video, what you'll discover is that he took an inordinate amount of time to show (poorly) that the original diagram was NOT to scale - something that everyone, including him, knew from the start. As for his "significant" numbers, he gets 6.6 and 23.4. He then takes the 23.4 away from 90 (for, umm, reasons???) to get 66.6. And do you know what all these numbers have in common, Mr Thrive and Survive? None of them is your magic oogie boogie number - 666.

It is literally a cult. I didn't understand how people could believe something like that, until I made the discovery that...I don't know about all of them, but for a lot of them, it's LITERALLY a religious thing. They're exactly the same as young-earth creationists. They have created their own idea for how the universe must work which proves, in their minds, that God is real and everything they believe in is true. Therefore, science must be wrong, because if it WASN'T wrong, then THEY might be wrong, and their religion says that blind faith > evidence so they can't be wrong. It is literally a cult, and people will do and say anything sometimes just to be part of something like that.

They know that there's a chance they might be wrong and if it's proven to them, they're not going to be able to prove it to their cult. They'll be shunned and rejected while these idiots find a new leader to spout nonsense. You'd have to take every single flat-earther to space, and even then I bet a good percentage of them would find some reason to say it was fake. Screens in the windows? Fine, kick 'em out the airlock.

@@ZeroKitsune what i don't understand about anti-science religious people is that can't you just do what you've always done? just make some shit up! idk like "God created the laws of physics, made the universe start from the big bang etc, but to prevent our species from growing too fast and disrupting the natural flow of things, he didn't give us the answers and instead decided to wait for us to discover them ourselves" Literally that would make more sense than anything they ever use as "proof" of why science is wrong and the bible is right.
