Yeah, I don't remember him being halfway competitive, for 3 more seasons. I remember the past champions provisional, so he and DW didn't miss the races.🤔 but that was a long time ago.

He broke his dad's record for oldest race winner at the time. I'm pretty sure everyone knew he didn't have many left in the tank at that point, though 201 didn't seem unreasonable.

What about the most cursed car. The #28 car in the 90s. Allison died, Irvan almost died, kenny irwin brought the curse with him from the 28 to the 42. The 42 turned into the 01 after Irwin. Leffler drives the 01 then died in a race years later
@masoneveridge4078
@masoneveridge4078 12 күн бұрын
I’d hardly consider the Leffler one considering that one happened 12 years after he drove it and also the fact that out of the 2 drivers that drove the 01 both lived for over 10 years and 1 is still alive

I think if Gordon and evernham could have stayed together for even 10-15 years they would have had a chance. They got to 50 wins so fast
@AsswipeGarage
@AsswipeGarage 12 күн бұрын
Gordon would have 7 titles and 100 wins if not for The Chase, Lucky Dogs, Overtime, and all the other contrivances that NASCAR created. Remember when the guy leading a race when the last caution came out would automatically win the race? Gordon got screwed out of at least 5 wins that way...usually on "DEBRIS" cautions!

Darrell Waltrip had a win stolen from him at North Wilkesboro? I thought it's been proven that Bodine won that fair and square
@NotSteveCook
@NotSteveCook 12 күн бұрын
It has been proven. I watched the broadcast. Brett shortpitted, and made up half a lap in 15 laps (new tires were invaluable at the Wilkesboro cheese grater). When Brett passed by as Earnhardt exited the pits under the yellow, it was for the lead.

Can y’all send me the link so I can check this myself as 30 years of people constantly saying one thing typically makes people believe it’s true also the way Bill France Jr talked to DW after the race made it very likely that there was a scoring error but I want a link to the broadcast so I can check it so I can be sure

Actually, you’re wrong about the North Wilkesboro thing it’s been proven at this point that Brett Bodine did win that race fair and square NASCARmanhistory and Brock Beard did a really great video about it
@highoctanecards
@highoctanecards 12 күн бұрын
I enjoyed the video, though I respectfully disagree on your take on the Brett Bodine win. I can't remember if it was Slapshoes or Brock Beard, one of them dissected the chain of events and really makes a clear argument that Brett was the legitimate winner of the race. Keep up the videos, am truly enjoying them.

highoctanecards is right, the video "Who Really Won North Wilkesboro 1990?" on the nascarman history channel by brock beard, thoroughly debunks the myth that brett won via a scoring error.

Jeff Gordon could've won 100 races if it weren't for a heartbreaking loss at Las Vegas in 2010,Martinsville in 2012,Texas in 2014,and the Daytona 500 in 2015.

There is always a chance someone comes along and can pull it off 85. No one thought Gordon would come close till he started winning. No one in their right might thought Jimmie could come close (remember how he was terrible in stock cars till Chad came along). Never ever is a long time for definites.

Exactly how it feels with Byron; I didn't realize that he was already at 10 wins if I'm not mistaken, and if he keeps improving with 3+ wins each year, he could easily be looking at Dale's record. It's kinda crazy

Johnson and Waltrip sould've had 85 wins. Maybe Jimmie wins 90 if it weren't for a heartbreaking loss at Dover in 2013 and Charlotte Roval in 2018.

It’s funny because modern F1 is the complete opposite. Back in the 50s and 60s if you won just 10 races you were considered a legend because of the amount of races Now if you win 10 races you’re probably just a number 2 driver on the top team because of the amount of races
