It must be said, this is the best combination of modern take on historical person place or things, and done in a engaging and factual manner. The narrative and person, who's voice makes the channel, is suburbe. I believe if given the chance, this quiet and tasteful channel will be found by someone who could bring the whole thing to a wider audience. Please don't. I, in no way, am not saying to not expand, just to NOT allow a " expert" to remove what's. Been built and enjoyed by very many fans. Thank you for all the work that goes into this wonderful channel.

I'm from Norwich and the history of this city is amazing. The castle has been here since pre-Roman Britain in various forms but still stands today with the cathedral - both finished by William in 1088. I live just inside what remains of the city walls super close to Stranger's Hall. If you are visiting, it's a museum that was named after the Hugenots when they came trading fabric - they were foreign, so, 'Strangers'. 😂 Turns out Norfolk is parochial and doesn't change 😂😂😂

In the Medieval feudal system, it is impossible for a bishop to completely wash his hands from warfare. Even a pacifist bishop would lawfully still need to give men to his liege as part of his feudal duties.

At about 6:35, during the piece on Baldwin of Forde, did I really hear you pronounce Worcester as, “War-chester”, in the same manner as one of my American countrymen, who are less knowledgeable about European pronunciations might? I really hope that it’s just a niche regional British peculiarity, and not you mangling it or perhaps you altering it for the benefit of a largely American audience. That would be very disappointing. I’m correcting my friends and family on proper English, German and French geographic pronunciations all the time. If any of them ever mispronounce the suffix, ‘shire’ for instance, I immediately give them a dressing down😉, telling them… “𝙄𝙩’𝙨 𝙀𝙣𝙜𝙡𝙖𝙣𝙙, 𝙣𝙤𝙩 𝙈𝙞𝙙𝙙𝙡𝙚 𝙀𝙖𝙧𝙩𝙝, 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙪𝙣𝙡𝙚𝙨𝙨 𝙨𝙤𝙢𝙚𝙩𝙝𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙝𝙖𝙨 𝙙𝙧𝙖𝙨𝙩𝙞𝙘𝙖𝙡𝙡𝙮 𝙘𝙝𝙖𝙣𝙜𝙚𝙙 𝙨𝙞𝙣𝙘𝙚 𝙢𝙮 𝙡𝙖𝙨𝙩 𝙫𝙞𝙨𝙞𝙩, 𝙮𝙤𝙪 𝙬𝙞𝙡𝙡 𝙙𝙚𝙛𝙞𝙣𝙞𝙩𝙚𝙡𝙮 𝙣𝙤𝙩 𝙛𝙞𝙣𝙙 𝙖𝙣𝙮 𝙃𝙤𝙗𝙗𝙞𝙩𝙨 𝙩𝙝𝙚𝙧𝙚!”😆

Addendum: I think New Englanders, particularly from Massachusetts, would be the only exception to the typical American mispronunciation of 'Worcester'.😉

It's just a general lack of knowledge and interest I think. He's reading a script written by someone else. In a clip about Columbus, he once pronounced the name of the ship Pinta as Piñata. Really showed his level that time.

@@boogiesmell5181: I get that, but what confuses me, is that he’s a Brit, isn’t he, or am I just hallucinating? Any of the English that I’ve ever known, would never say such a thing, whether only tangentially connected to the information; whether disinterested in the story, or not. It’s only ever been “Wooster”, or maybe “Worse-ster”. It’s not Earth shattering for me, of course, just kinda baffling is all. From what the internet tells me, his name is James Wade. It says he is British, as if that weren’t already evident, and I believe I saw something connecting him to Cambridge, which if that’s accurate, makes it even more baffling. But as he also narrates the 'Walk the Plank' channel, perhaps others still, I doubt he’ll be taking the time for us to pick his brain here in the comment threads. If he weren’t dead, I’d say we hand it over to Robert Stack, because it’s likely to remain an unsolved mystery. Am I aging myself with that reference?😆
@jamest2401
@jamest2401 2 ай бұрын
@SkyeSage17: If your comment was directed at me, I think you imply a level of snootiness or snobbery on my part, where none exists. I’m not sure how proper pronunciation &/or grammar plays into ego or a superiority complex, but whatever. Education and knowledge is actually the pavement layered upon the road which should lead to the exact opposite of hubris or ego inflation. That is, of course, if said knowledge results in some semblance of wisdom; for, unfortunately, there are some who are unable to distinguish the difference between the two, often mistaking the former for the latter. “𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘸𝘪𝘴𝘦 𝘬𝘯𝘰𝘸 𝘵𝘰𝘰 𝘸𝘦𝘭𝘭 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘪𝘳 𝘰𝘸𝘯 𝘸𝘦𝘢𝘬𝘯𝘦𝘴𝘴 𝘵𝘰 𝘦𝘷𝘦𝘳 𝘢𝘴𝘴𝘶𝘮𝘦 𝘪𝘯𝘧𝘢𝘭𝘭𝘪𝘣𝘪𝘭𝘪𝘵𝘺: 𝘧𝘰𝘳 𝘩𝘦 𝘸𝘩𝘰 𝘬𝘯𝘰𝘸𝘴 𝘮𝘰𝘴𝘵, 𝘬𝘯𝘰𝘸𝘴 𝘣𝘦𝘴𝘵 𝘩𝘰𝘸 𝘭𝘪𝘵𝘵𝘭𝘦 𝘩𝘦 𝘬𝘯𝘰𝘸𝘴.” -Thomas Jefferson And I have always found this statement to be an axiom, for the more I learn, the more my eyes are opened to an even larger and vast universe of lessons, stories, experiences, ideas and truths yet to be tapped into. Most people who love to learn and continually strive to gain a wider knowledge of the world and nature, equally love to help spread that knowledge, cultural enrichment, awareness, and understanding to others. And such teachers-at-heart, like myself, couldn’t give tuppence about personal aggrandizement, or where they might stand on some absurd podium of intellectual ranking. I wouldn’t have been cracking jokes about possible UK Hobbits if I had been simply looking down my nose. And as far as your statement regarding it only mattering to me: I’m afraid several of my English friends would be quite ready to take issue with you on such a position.
