I knew exactly where you were diving before I opened the video. I dove there May 27, and my buddy and I went in on the South side and scootered to North. And there are two types of divers - those who have done the Monastery Crawl and those who have never dove Monastery….

Oh, and I picked some Monastery pebbles out of the pocket of my drysuit yesterday! I dove there in early May and have done 10-12 dives in the PNW/Seattle area since! The experience of Monastery really sticks with you… literally!

One thing I like to do to mark my shore exit site on night dives is to plant two flashing red bicycle lights in line with each other, up at least 4-5 feet above surface level (trees, rocks, whatever is handy). Then just line them up while out in the water at surface and follow that in. Glad your van marker was able to work so well for you!

I do try and avoid crawling through the surf; it's so easy to end up rolling around like a clubbed seal. I try to keep my primary reg in my mouth and the secondary clipped close in to my chest as otherwise, you're right, that sand does truly get in everywhere! Shore diving in the Caribbean next week, YAY!

@@gbsailing9436 My SAC with 2 x 12litre steels in cold water is around 18 litres per min. In a shortie and single 63 it's around half. Train hard, fight easy 🙂

cool video :) Monastery Beach is a great dive spot, more enjoyable than Monterrey bay imo, but yes the entry/exit is no joke! you've probably covered this in the past, but do you have any videos or thoughts/experience with full-face masks? I'm considering going down that road... I'm an ex-commercial diver and got spoiled with the hard-hat diving, and while I won't be using the old Kirby Morgan 27 for scuba diving, the idea of a ffm sounds intriguing. Thanks again for the great content!
