Madden will never be surpassed. He called tons of plays on the air before they happened by just looking at teams formations. That's awesome skill. Madden also was the last true great fanatic of all things football to announce a game. How many analysts today go into great detail about line play? How many mention an increase in the number of water buckets on a side line? He was into all the things.

In 14 years in the NFL, Larry Allen was a pro bowler 11 times, and a first team all pro 6 times. His 3 non-pro bowl seasons were his rookie season, his last season, and the 2002 season when he was injured and only played in 5 games. He made pro bowls and first team all pro at Right Guard, Left Guard, and Left Tackle. EDIT Rest in Peace, Larry.

In 1993, I used to work as a Doorman/Bouncer at a bar in San Francisco. Several of the other Bouncers were Football players from San Francisco State. Jon M he never had the strongest arm though he lived off deadly accuracy and being basically a coordinator at the line. So when he lost a lot of his arm it didn't matter because he never had a cannon. Still think his best season was 2004. 49 TD's on much less attempts and more yards/completion . He completed 114 more passes when he threw his 55 TD's in Denver, totaling 450. Could you imagine if had completed 450 attempts with the Colts and their better wideouts.

Emmitt Smith’s Hall of Fame speech was deeply appreciative of that fact, yeah. Or, of the whole-team effort that was necessary for his (admittedly legit) greatness. Football is weird, in that MASSIVE speculative analytical effort goes into individual player greatness, when the truest (and arguably most inspirational) statements of merit concern how well a team plays as a Team.

He had screwed up the toe on his lead foot, bad enough that he eventually needed surgery, the thing with that is it directly affects your ability to push off with your foot and accelerate, so when he slowed down and bit on the feint (turning his body inside in anticipation of a short in route or hook), he was screwed because he couldn't turn around and accelerate back to full speed fast enough to keep pace with a very young Marvin Harrison.

Phenomenal offensive lineman to say the least. Overcoming that bull rush from Reggie White as a rookie speaks volumes. Many would have called it a wrap for any career advancement after that showing on national TV.

I am a 49ers fan who played offensive line since my childhood and Larry Allen quickly became one of my favorite players despite playing for the rival Cowboys. When he played for the 49ers to end his career, I was so happy. Jason Kelsey is my active NFL hero, the best Center I personally have ever seen play.

@@pats4dawin106 nah. Emmitt was good in general. Great actually. Sure many can shine with an O line, but some are only enough. Gotta remember that the cowboys didnt have this o line for long. Thats why aikman retired early cuz he kept getting beat up. But look at his runs. Broke lots of tackles. His moves were quick, balance was strong. He had strength all around.

People forget Emmitt's line wasn't good after 1995. They got old. I actually saw a documentary on this years ago and their were players who said this. That line lost it's dominance after 1995. The only lineman that was really good in 1996-2004 was Larry Allen but that's one man. But yet Emmitt was still rushing over 1k every year. In fact in 2000 they got Troy Aikman killed and even tore up Randall Cunningham and he was a scrambler. It didn't stop Emmitt from have another 1k season. So, Emmitt deserves more respect than he gets.

some people say "no excuses" but Deion should not have even been playing. His turf toe ruined the last few years of his career and he said that he still can't walk right 20 years later, it still bothers him. I think that was his last year in Dallas and next season he was in washington and got torched by Cowboys wr's also. He was done by then. You can't cover wr's if you cannot pivot or change direction quickly . It's not possible. It is not only a good excuse, it is an excellent excuse.

All the other member's didn't have long enough primes or dominant enough primes. Nate Newton went to his first pro bowl in his 7th season. Always thought he was a tad overrated and we should have given his spot to Ron Stone. 6x Probowl 2x All Pro Kevin Gogan was never a pro bowler as a Cowboys. 3x Probowl Mark Stepnoski was never considered dominant. 5x Probowl Erik Williams would have been the other HOF'er if it weren't for his knee injury. 4x Probowl 2x All Pro Mark Tuinei wasn't a pro bowler until his 12th season in the league. 2x Probowl Larry Allen 11x probowl 6x All Pro
