Good for you man. I was born in 87 so this stuff was a bit before my time too, but I remember getting my first few tastes of classic rock and just going deeper and deeper into everything it has to offer. And going through the Zeppelin catalog really was an amazing experience. And you have it all here at your finger tips with KZbin and Spotify. Enjoy this period of discovery!

Zeppelin IV & Physical Graffiti are my favorites, but I love all of their albums to various degrees. I love your channel, like many bands, I grew up waiting to see what is next....I actually lifted(stole) 20$ from my Dads sock drawer and bought Led Zep 2, and I actually ended up telling him about it, he just laughed...Please, no more sad dog stories. I have a very distinct memory of hearing this song for the first time. It was 1985 and I was 14. I was hanging out in a video arcade on Friday night. There was a juke box playing and a friend of my sister's went over and put on "Rock and Roll". He looked at me and winked and said "you're gonna love this." I was blown away. Every time I hear it, I am 14 again playing pinball in that arcade.

Led Zeppelin helped make me a rock star with my group of friends for a couple of weeks. I heard LZ 1 on KMET in L.A., hustled down to the local record store to buy it, and gathered all my homies together for a memorable listen. Who really cares if their records never hit #1 - it doesn't change how we feel about them. In relation to that, there should've been separate categories - rock 'n roll, soul, mellow rock, etc.

Zeppelin IV is my favorite. I got married at 19 in 1970 and a few years later met my current wife at my job at an Atlanta car dealership. We never left her apartment (so as not to get caught) until we both fell in love hearing Stairway to Heaven on the radio and had to go buy the album. 3 of our coworkers caught us together that day so the cat was out of the bag. We married in 1975 and our "wedding march" song was Stairway to Heaven. In December we will be married 48 years. We were so blessed to grow up in the 60's and 70's as I feel those 2 decades were the absolute best time for music! So many talented people and bands!!

Yea, someone who was an older person that'd been around the band Slade when they were forming said that they should find some other singer than Noddy Holder because all he could do was scream and make a bunch of noise and they'd be better off with someone else. Slade went on to sell more singles in less time in England than The Beatles did and probably influenced more bands than any other Rock group ever, Ozzy Osborne himself said Noddy Holder probably has the greatest voice ever in the history of Rock. Scream and make a bunch noise indeed, he sure did, all the way into the record books.

I was at Ocean City MD with my young family around 1988. We just got off a large seaside Ferris Wheel. Rock n Roll came on full blast. Much to my wife’s horror and the crowds cheers I picked up my 3 year old daughter and started strumming her like a guitar 🎸 as I jammed down the off ramp of the ride. It was just spontaneous.

As I've said before, Putting the needle down on a Zeppelin album in the Seventies was like lighting a stick of dynamite. I dig it as much at 71 years old as when I listened to them IN 1971! The energy in me that rode its back has not changed. My body thinks that's weird. Ha. But so what? Actually, I am surprised we didn't have to go to NASA for a day of Flight Training before going to a Zeppelin Concert! Hey, may I just say Thank you! Catching all of the info you unleash in your videos is paradise. Been a long time, been a long time, been a long lonely lonely lonely lonely time since I've seen a Zeppelin concert. But if you can get into the same room with them just once, there's a part of you there forever. ✌Peace Out, my brother and all of my fellow Zeppelin pilots! Let's never land!

Back then, the Billboard weekly chart rankings were based on a combination of record sales and radio airplay. One theory for a lower charting peak position can be why would one purchase the single if they like the whole album. Another theory is that some singles are chopped up edited versions of the album cut to make it radio friendly and perhaps the record buyer would prefer the full-length version. As Billy Joel once said about his song "Piano Man", "It was a beautiful song, but it ran too long, if you're gonna have a hit, you gotta make it fit, so they [Columbia Records] cut it down to 3:05."

It didn’t chart higher because it was 1971, and songs like this just didn’t make it onto Top 40 radio, which unfortunately ruled the airwaves back then

I'm incredibly disappointed that my cable channels didn't put The Breakfast Club on this weekend. Every once in a while they slip stuff like that in, they put Lost Boys and License to Drive on a couple weeks ago and I realized on my own that it was the anniversary of the day Corey Haim died. One night they put on Midnight Express, I was doing some research on it and realized it was the anniversary of the day Billy Hayes was arrested. They aired it again a few days later on what was the anniversary of his escape. None of this was explicitly mentioned, it was just done. It reminds me of the day a local radio station played Sister Christian and Jessie's Girl back to back with zero mention of Boogie Nights, they just did it.

Little regard was paid to the FM radio market. That is where Led Zeppelin and other much ignored music of the day was playing. It's long lasting popularity has proven it's value. Young people are still putting aside today's music for "Zeppelin" over what otherwise is considered "THEIR" music.

I bet some others have touched on this already, but the main reason Zeppelin never performed quite as well as one might expect on the singles charts is because their singles were always released weeks, months, or even years after that song had already been featured on an album. In this instance, while Zeppelin IV was released in early November of 71, Rock and Roll wasn’t released as a single until February of 72. Everybody had heard the song by the time the single came out. Otherwise, tremendous video as always brotha🤘

I have to tell you, this channel is easy to watch. It is a great music channel, but you get the fact that the message is important and needs to be heard un-cluttered. When you speak, no music. Everyone hears the message and not distracted by music in the back ground. So many content creators talk over muic or noise and message lost. Bailing out of videos halfway through and letting them know why but 0 changes leads to unsubscribing channels I liked. I refer you to channels as the perfect format for information videos. Zeppelin is frankly a band that defined being anti-commercial. That they didn't have such great chart success wasn't anybody's fault. They set the pace for other artists who drew upon them but were pointedly groomed for commercial stardom. Zeppelin is both legendary and esoteric in a fashion that can't honestly be duplicated. No other act has gone from being so well loved without being mainstream to being the standard against which so many have been compared over the following 50 years. The genesis of this song reminds me of how Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers used to make music. They never spent too much time on a song. If it didn't work within a couple of takes, it was scrapped. They didn't wish to dog anything too long.

I think that "Rock and Roll" was their first song at Pittsburgh's Three Rivers Stadium in 1974 (?). Four solid hours of music with a half-hour break from 10 to 10:30. Finally the fire marshall sut down the show at 12:30. People were throwing lit joints up onto the stage and the band was taking hits and throwing them back into the crowd. Best. Concert. Ever.
