When reading The Hobbit, I got a sense that the dwarves Tolkien envisioned might actually have looked more like the Disney ones than the fantasy dwarves we know today. (Their hats gives it away very early.) Not to mention that as the book progresses, it becomes more and more obvious that outside some specific fields and skills, the entire company is useless and lost without Gandalf (and later, Bilbo). Their comic relief isn't as bumbling and silly as Disney's, but there's still a bit of resemblance. So yeah, I could see Thorin and company singing this.
