This was probably one of the most exciting if not the most exciting head to head play in not even just smash 4 but any smash game. Elegant and MKLeo played 14 games, with Winner's Finals going to game 4 which Elegant won, and then Leo reset the bracket in grand finals game 5, and then took game 5 of the second set. GTX was nuts. At top play, picking cloud is not an obvious choice, or an easy one. All of the top players know the matchup (elegant managed to pull out that perfect shield in jab at the ledge multiple times, he was prepared for this), you have to stay very aware as a cloud player at that level: one slip off-stage can make you lose a stock, which is what happened for the most part. It's not easy. MKleo has a great spacing game matured with marth, and played really really well, elegant too has played at his peak. It's been a great finals set, and remember that it's the player that performs, not the character.

I want to be humble about it like you're trying to be, but... I just can't. I don't even play Smash anymore and I still get triggered whenever somebody defends Cloud by pointing out that he has weaknesses. As if they somehow equalize his enormous and frankly stupid strengths. As if "tiers don't matter" -- getting really annoyed and tired of that argument. I don't think anyone is saying if you pick a lower tier character, you automatically lose to a higher tier character. It's just generally, in a trend, easier to pick the top tier character in some way. Either they have more options, better options, or are just easier to play. Cloud is an obnoxious character, regardless of skill level. He doesn't get fucked as easily as you suggest, either. Not that it's terribly hard to gimp him, but a lot of the cast has a hard time reliably doing it -- at least last I played. But even if they didn't, Cloud still has retarded frame data, range, and kill power on top of an insane juggle game, arguably the best pressure tool in the game (limit charge) which is practically a zero-risk way to get your opponent to do what you want them to, even when it's a bad idea. Let's not forget that limit cross slash has intangibility on frame 6 -- meanwhile Shulk's fastest move is only a single frame faster, and that move (jab) doesn't combo, do good damage, or even link into itself properly. But tell us again how the character doesn't matter.
