The Most FUNCTIONAL Skoolie Kitchen EVER | SKOOLIE BUILD

This sure was one heck of a week for our build! Some projects are looking amazing, but sometimes, results that can best be described as "functional" are all that we aim for...
Jimmy manages to build (and paint) 8ft of upper cabinets for the kitchen from start to finish. Complete with soft-close hinges and some super stylish (and have I mentioned that they're functional?) handles.
Natalie continues working on installing FRP (Fiberglass Reinforced Plastic) walls in the shower, and is still reeling from the decision to have an extremely customized shower. This will pay off eventually when we have (1) a tiny shower that's just big enough to meet our needs, and (2) a 'secret' room for our Nature's Head composting toilet.
We had a LOT of fun making this video, and hope you have just as much fun watching!
Stick around for our weekly videos, every Monday at 2pm!

I’ve been binge watching the past couple of days, from the beginning of your build until this video. I feel like you should already be in the 6-figures for subs! You’re amazing and your bus reflects that. I haven’t peeked at any future vids, but I hope that you do a “Q&A”. It’d be so cool to learn your school/work/life experience that led you to this point -> totally slaying this build! Looking forward to the next vids!

Looking good, in case you dont know they make plastic/PVC trim for the shower walls works perfect for those type of shower panels. It will hide the seems and the silicone very well. Plus it will give you a nice pro finished look. Oh and the plastic trim is cheap easy to install. It cuts with a pair of scissors or you can use a razor knife. The trim is flexible, thin and comes wide enough to cover the larger gaps. So you shouldn't have any problems at all. Anyways Your bus is looking so good you guys are doing a great job... ❤😊 👏👏👍🏻👍🏻
@JimmyandNatalie

Thanks! We’ll definitely look into that! The silicone seems to be water proof but I am definitely worried about the durability over time so that would probably help

Thanks so much!! 💚 This build has been super fun for both of us, but I (Natalie) have personally really enjoyed getting to learn so many cool new skills. When we started this project, we knew that we BOTH wanted to fully understand how all of the systems of the bus worked. My confidence has improved so much as a result of that decision. So glad you enjoy our videos, and thanks so much for your comment. You made my day! 😄 Good luck on your build!! Hopefully the SC weather will be kinder now than it was all summer! 😅

It may be to late when you read this.....make sure to check the thickness of the wall where the mixer valve and shower head mount....I've seen other builds end up with a problem in this area. Test mount your mixer valve for flushness. Hope this area goes smoothly for you Natalie.

Just a question. If you were already set up with propane, why did you install a Chinese diesel heater and not a RV style propane furnace?
@JimmyandNatalie
@JimmyandNatalie 3 жыл бұрын
No, good question! It’s basically because our bus runs off of diesel and, although we did not have time for it when we did the heater install, we can hook up the diesel heater to pull fuel directly from our bus fuel tank in the future.

Curious as what size wood and dimensions of the upper and lower cabinets. Everyone shows building these but nobody shares dimensions or actual size of wood/material.
@JimmyandNatalie
@JimmyandNatalie 2 жыл бұрын
We used 1x2 pine board for the "frame" of all the cabinets and doors and 1/2" plywood for the actual walls and structure of the upper/lower cabinets. For the doors, I used a 1/4" dado blade to cut grooves in the wood and fit it with 1/4" sanded plywood. All the dimensions for the lower doors and drawer faces varied wildly since it was such a custom kitchen. But the whole setup is ~8ft long and we made the upper cabinet doors match the width of the window that they were above (about 2.5' long each). Hope that helps! 😄
