Of course there are always exceptions. For example, some great breeders might breed two different kinds of dogs, or some may only own the female's and not the males. This isn't to say you must check every box mentioned in this video, it's just a guideline, and I'm sure there are lots of good points that I missed!

The point is, as you intended, is, that a poorly bred dog (any pet) can have issues. By vetting their parents and or birth environment, you are minimizing the possibility of these issues.

We had a Husky - Schäferhund mix when I was a kid, and she was so protective and graceful. The kind and loyal nature of a Schäferhund, the looks and body strenght of a Husky. Even pulled us children on a slay on the rare occasions it snowed in Western Germany. Perfect dog. She was mostly self sufficient, as long as she had a task like watching over us kids or helping my aging aunt. Since my aunt came from a farm she used to feed her food scraps, not ideal, but Niki was healthy and happy. When my sister died after a car accident and she was mourning, she showed us that she was well able to open the door on her own and went to the grave 2 miles daily, where we found here when we searched. She was only staying because she wanted to. You could tell her: Niki, get xY, and she would go to the person and started talking and whimmering like a husky, which she otherwise never did. Most docile, intelligent, loyal Dog ever. She was 14 when she became so sick from old age that we decided to put her down at home. I am sure she understood, since she just laid down between us, licked us and closed her eyes as the medication was administered. I miss Niki so much. We never had a dog after her, since no dog will ever come close to her.

My uncle used to have female German shepherd who always kept an eye on me and my cousins when we were kids. If we were playing in the grass, she would always lay close to us. If we were swimming in the pool, she would sit at the pool entrance to prevent anyone else from getting in. And if we were going on hike through the forest, she would always be close behind us. The funniest part - she did all of those things without anyone of us calling her over, she knew that her job was to keep us safe and she always delivered on it. She had a long and happy life and all of us still miss her to this day.

There are so many of the purebred dogs in shelters and rescues. There are also tons of puppies so if people want a German Shepherd puppy, that's really not a problem as long as they can wait until one comes along. Usually quite often in the major cities.

So sad to hear that many German Shepherd end up in a shelter. I live in Japan and many people get dogs in the pet shops. It's very uncommon to get a dog directly from a breeder. And shop business is very cruel, they just rely on people to buy a puppy only because it's cute. They don't care if people understand the difference between different breeds needs. As the result, many dogs end up in a shelter, but nobody is interested to stop that business because puppies in the shop cost $4000 /$5000, and they don't care what happens to the puppy afterwards, they only care to get the money.

My German Shepard was from a really good, working line breeder. He was from the second of two litters that summer and we met both parents. Dad was pretty laid back round us the new owners, but as the litter wasn’t ready mum was very protective. We gave the breeders a teddy bear to get mums scent on it, and our Max barely cried in the night. When picked up, he had a crate and a hot water bottle hidden under ted in it. We barely needed to house train him other than occasional accidents

So it was no surprise when we found out that they run our state’s german shepherd dog club!😊 we were interviewed as to our suitability to be the owner of a shepherd and we weren’t put off by this at all, if anything we felt that these were people who were responsible breeders. So my mom for her birthday last year wanted to get a Great Dane because my brothers gf’s friends had pure bred puppies. Funny enough my mom was the one to do pretty much all the research you suggested. The breeders were very ethical & informative. Also, my mom & dad got to meet the parents & this was their first litter of puppies. These breeders were thorough in everything because they were first time breeders which I was very happy about. It certainly made me less stressed only because as much as I love my brothers gf her idea of getting a pure bred puppy is "my friends are selling & their really nice." Ok well what are they like as breeders…"my friends are selling puppies & they’re really nice." Thank God my mom did her research.

Mom and dad were awesome dogs, the entire litter (9 puppies!!) were healthy and vivacious, they retired mom after only 3 litters over the course of 3 years, and the pups were regularly screened and even being socialized before they were sold. Armageddon is a beautiful dog! I love his coloring and his sweet face! He seems to be very well behaved also, which I feel is important for all dogs but especially larger breeds like the German Shepard. If you have a huge dog, the last thing you need is them not being well behaved. You can tell he's well taken care of and well trained. 🙂

That puppy is adorable. Almost as adorable as my German Shephard dog named Freyja.

I've followed your channel for a while (almost a year I think), and I don't even want to have a dog near me (got attacked by one when I was a kid but fortunately my grandma was there so I didn't get hurt). Yet, I love following your channel. I love these dogs and I want to pet them all (or at least to tell them how beautiful they are) and I'm just happy to read so many comments commenting on the way you treat them well

Your breeder questions just made me realize my family got our Lhasapoo from an irresponsible breeder 10 years ago 😂 He gave us our dog for free because it was an accidental litter (he’s a family friend so he gave the dog to us for free) He gave her to us at 6 weeks because “the mom didn’t want the puppies anymore” which seemed like a red flag to me but I was 13 and didn’t know any better. Thankfully we got the best temperament out of the whole litter. She acts just like a Lhasa Apso and doesn’t give 2 sh*ts about the world. She never chewed up our stuff when she was a puppy, and she never really needed much training to know right from wrong. For any future dogs though, I’ll definitely do more research for my parents if they go for a breeder vs a shelter

Definitely a red flag. All females stop wanting to nurse their puppies around 5-6 weeks I believe. But by then the pups should be on a wet puppy chow and slowly moving towards normal puppy food. The female not wanting the pups anymore wouldn't change anything at that point.

Thank you for outlining all the important things that dog owners should ask every breeder of purebred dogs, not only purebreds but mixed breeds too like all those designer ones. Very important to ask many questions!
